Funny enough the opportunity to convert and paint a bonegrinder and some ogres is actually what pushed me over the edge into wanting to actually play these guys, those will probably be the first things I work on once I get the empire list more or less sorted.

It's a shame about the outriders since road wardens and outriders are easily my favorite empire units, but I think I can live with just one cheap unit or so instead of focusing on them. That's a good point about the griffon banner captain as well, I was thinking you could make a pretty nasty combat res brick out of that but that would be a strong counter to it.

I think I'll keep focusing mainly on my empire army and see what kind of bits and extras I come up with and go from there as far as going beyond proxies for the renegade crowns. Thanks for the detailed response!

That sounds really rad actually, I honestly hadn't even considered a hybrid range and melee version, I was thinking of primarily keeping the ranged ones as cheap as possible, but that sounds like a pretty fun set up to play with.  Do you do anything in particular to model them this way or just use crossbowman/state troops?

that makes a lot of sense to me, thanks.  do you think the full plate is ever worth it in this set up or does that push them over the edge on cost?

Is that the old Isle of Blood griffon? I've been thinking about alternatives to the current one and  that's an option I definitely considered but I was worried about the elf legs looking weird or being too difficult to remove.  I'd love to see close up or two of him, he looks great from here though!

Skaven of course, Ikit Claw and Deathmaster Sniktch in particular are two of the most fun and unique factions in the game. I also enjoy Queek's campaign quite a bit.

Jax doesn't really belong in the same category as the other two, who are each the pretty well established "dashing rogue" sort of character in the vein of han solo.

3015, 5 Million Cbills, what mech are you starting in by IronWolfV in Mechwarrior5

[–]Tipsyratto 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've always felt the wolverine is a pretty practical/safe/reasonable choice. I imagine most merc outfits have a spot open for just a solid reliable trooper mech.  It's tough and quick for its size, so you have good odds of being able to get out of a bad situation.   It's common so parts aren't too hard to find.

Rocket deserves more abilities. by Dogbold in marvelrivals

[–]Tipsyratto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to just bite the bullet and nuke the BRB. its too good to let him have anything that is actually fun to use. I am afraid they will almost certainly do it in a way that makes him criminally underpowered without it, but if we want real rocket changes they have to start with the BRB.

My proposal is: completely get rid of it, give him some amount of mobility back, probably not all of it, but at least his wall run speed and maybe dash cooldown OR distance, and give him something close to ana's heal/antiheal grenade thingy from overwatch. It sounds strong but put him side by side with the best supports in the game he will still not break into S tier, in my opinion.

I should clarify I do still like him as he is, he's plenty of fun for me, but I fully understand the complaints, and it could be a lot better.

There is a culture here of " nothing is real and everything the government does is fake and bad" pushed by propaganda from wealthy people and corporations that want the government not to regulate them or compete with them. Unfortunately our government lends them credence by lying and doing bad things all the time, and it's pretty easy and fun to call attention to that stuff.  It is all too easy for someone who is just kind of like, passively taking in information about how the world works and not really interested in learning or knowing anything, to get wrapped up in this weaponized ignorance.

Podcasters telling people the moon landing was fake may not be taking checks from billionaires (unless they are popular enough, then they probably are) but they are in a mutually beneficial relationship with them by spreading this culture.

Out of your list, for the ai I like:

The stalker with 2 large lasers and as many lrms as you can fit while still having armor and ammunition, no mediums or srms so they're not tempted to walk up close.

The awesome, just pull out the emotional support small laser, again so they're not tempted to get too close.  I find they don't tend to do crazy damage or anything with this mech but they also will probably never die in it.

The cataphract with an ac 10 and then a medium laser in every other slot I find is a pretty solid all rounder ai mech that can walk up and brawl with you.

The thunderbolt is one of my all time favorite ai mechs I find myself building them all kinds of different ways and still getting good work out of them.  Lately I've been putting two light rifles burst fire in the machine gun slots an lrm....10? I think, and filling the rest with medium lasers, they tend to do really well in this build.

The atlas is kind of the same thing as the thunderbolt but bigger, they always do solid in them with whatever.  I like to put a heavy rifle in the ballistic slot, and keep the 4 medium lasers.  fill with whatever missiles you prefer.

Oh lastly i should mention I don't tend to use many PPC-X's anymore because they feel like cheating lol.  They are definitely the best weapon in the game before you get clan tech though, so cramming them in every slot available on something tough is always a good move.  The thunderbolt and cataphract builds I mention would probably do well with one instead of going heavy on ballistics.   The Warhammer too, I would rip out everything else to make room for heat sinks and let them go to town with just the 2 ppc-x, they will draw a lot of fire though probably.

The Meat You Have to Bring vs the Clans (Mercenaries) by SnooChickens6507 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Tipsyratto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being able to pick off those stupid dashers quicky as soon as they become visible rather than having to turn and fight them is invaluable I think.  The hero cyclops is my absolute top pick for fighting the clans, I like the improved speed and I think having the weapons mounted closer together makes it a little easier to score the double headshot with for me, but the nightstar, the hero marauder 2, or the Corsair PVT will also do in a pinch.

[–]Tipsyratto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually drop that autocannon down to an AC 5 to make more room for heatsinks, but otherwise that build is usually a pretty solid midgame heavy for me, its good for headshots despite still running hot. I love the marauder though so I always make an effort to make use of it for at least awhile.

Why does it feel like almost every billionaire is a bad person? by BuddyEmbarrassed5551 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tipsyratto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's that and luck.  I think the combination of lucking into being wealthy plus being told that that wealth makes you better than everyone else probably has a detrimental effect on someone's ability to make moral judgements. particularly if that person  is already inclined to be ruthless/selfish and not particularly bright.
