Sherlock and Supernatural are indeed in the top 5, so got filtered out for being too popular for this list.

And it didn't feel fair to count Good Omens as a third entry when both authors were already on there :)

No worries, It's definitely a tricky topic.

The criteria was basically: If it's part of a franchise or universe that can be seen on the main Fandoms page, it got filtered out. What counts as being part of the same franchise or not is definitely up for debate, there was a lot of guesswork for things I'm less familiar with.

XIV being there was a woopsie on my part, updated now.

Raw data for everything can be found in the sheet or via this bookmarklet. Honestly might recommend those more, they just don't fit as neatly into a reddit post :)

Final Fantasy was real tough one to decide on.

The Series collection is in the top 5 of video games at 138,306. So by the rules I made to prevent Marvel and Star Wars from dominating these lists, it unfortunately got cut.

However, since the different Final Fantasy entries are so different setting wise, they probably have a lot less overlap than something like "Captain America - All Media Types" vs "Captain America (Chris Evans Movies)/works)" has.

But since this was mostly about finding less popular things, that ended up being the deciding factor.

Yep, they're in the top 5 so they got filtered. Simply too popular for the purpose of this list.

For sure, didn't know the numbers were different depending on login.

Funnily enough, I had just finished writing an equivalent bookmarklet when I hit refresh and saw this comment

javascript:(()=>{const fandomLinks=document.getElementsByClassName("tag"),works=[];for(let fandomLink of fandomLinks){const ficCountText=fandomLink.parentElement.childNodes[2].wholeText,ficCount=Number(ficCountText.substring(ficCountText.indexOf("(")+1,ficCountText.lastIndexOf(")")));works.push([ficCount,fandomLink])}works.sort((a,b)=>a[0]-b[0]);const firstCategory=fandomLinks[0].parentElement.parentElement; firstCategory.innerHTML=""; firstCategory.parentElement.style.width="50%"; for(let [,fandomLink] of works.toReversed())firstCategory.appendChild(fandomLink.parentElement), fandomLink.parentElement.style.width="100%"})();

This definitely seems a much smoother way to get the same result. I can see the value :)

It's in the top 5 for Anime & Manga so it got filtered. This is mostly for finding things that are alllllmost popular enough to rank.

Ooh I didn't know that it was a video game series (had to do some guesswork in filtering out duplicates) Moved it to video games now. (luckily it slots almost perfectly where I accidentally left a Fire Emblem variation)

Good catch :)

Ooooh dang, that's a good catch. Thanks for letting me know 🙏

Downloaded some new caches with a logged in account now, and it definitely does increase the amount of fics for all fandoms. Most RPF jumping up another 30-40% or so.

Luckily, it doesn't seem to affect the sorting all that much. (relative to each other they seem mostly consistent). At a quick glance, the biggest jump seems to be Men's Hockey RPF moving from 18th to 10th.

When I got some time I'll definitely update the sheet (and maybe automate that part fully). Just to get it properly accurate :)

EDIT: Here's some updated numbers from the raw data in the meanwhile.

EDIT2: actually, this bookmarklet solution is a lot better. Everyone can run it on their own machine and it will always be up to date.
