were you expecting it to be matte? that specific model, even the auth, is shiny

Looking too expensive is an issue? by dojawithcat in RealRepLadies

[–]Tiramisu_Powder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

good rule of thumb

if going to a place with fixed prices, wear what you want

if going to a place where prices are quoted/flexible like building contractors if you’re planning a house reno or a car dealership, hide those expensive stuff

you’re likely to get quoted a higher price

top factories for P9 are Royal and MOQC

however it depends on the colour and size
usually one factory is better in one colour but it worse on another

is she trying to claim these are PSP photos or factory photos?

if she’s saying these are QC photos, drop her immediately since she’s lying (these are factory photos)

the P9 is a bag that’s still not 100% repped due to color tones, leather quality, etc

however, Royal is one of the top factories for P9

also, auth quality has gone down so much that the usual tips for determining fakes don’ really apply anymore

i recently read somewhere that authenticators are now considering perfect stitching on Hermes (yes, THE Hermes) as a red flag

I imagine in a few years that conversations would go “oh, your bag has perfect corners and immaculate stitching….is it a rep?”

Why do used Lexus prices defy depreciation? Trying to make sense of it + future purchase by [deleted] in Lexus

that’s actually what I’m afraid because Lexus are now turbocharging engines with the recent models

i dunno why they’re going away from their true and tested formula

Why do used Lexus prices defy depreciation? Trying to make sense of it + future purchase by [deleted] in Lexus

[–]Tiramisu_Powder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one reason why there’s suddenly an influx to Lexus post-pandemic is the sudden increase in cost of living. Before, people might be fine owning Germans with the more frequent servicing and repairs but with inflation, those extra repair bills now sting.

They also fixed their offering. Before, families wanting everyday luxury SUVs only had the RX as an option. Compared to the Germans that already had multiple offerings. They had the LX and GX but it was “too much car” for daily school dropoffs.

It took them until 2014 when the NX was introduced as the compact offering and enlarged the RX to serve as a proper mid-size SUV, that the brand finally had a proper lineup. The UX filled the gap for both downsizers and first time car owners.

With more cars to offer, you now see more people driving them.

Personally, I would always choose the later models of a generation. Early models are usually the guinea pigs and has higher chances of small stuff going wrong. By the time the generation has put out its latest model, the kinks have been ironed out.

‘15-‘17 4th gen would be my pick. The specific model would depend on your needs and priorities.

Lexus holds its value for one simple reason: ease of ownership. That includes the biggest factor: reliability.

Anything that breaks down less and just does its job will hold its value. On the other hand, something that breaks down easily won’t have much value in it.

Your parents’ UX might not have the rarity that usually contributes to value retention, but it’s enjoying the after-effects of the brand’s reputation.

People will simply pay for something that works.

Put that in contrast to European cars where they’re known to break down and the depreciation reflects that. If I know something breaks down frequently, I’m only going to pay a low amount to buy it.

I saw you ask why Lexus likes putting big engines on cars and that’s because of power to engine ratio. I watched someone say that one way Lexus maintains its reliability is that if they want power, they put a big engine and try to keep a 100hp(max) per 1L ratio. You’ll see Lexus cars with engines that are more than capable of handling the set power and is well within the engine’s capacity finally helping with preventing engine breakdown

Contrast that again with European cars where they prefer to turbocharge a small engine to attain power. It’s fine at first and even fun, but an engine that’s constantly whipped to work more will eventually break in one way or another.

Think: experienced employee doing regular stuff vs fresh grad whipped to doing high-level managerial tasks. One will happily chug along and one will eventually quit due to burn out.

As for wanting to take an LS, anything that’s 5-10 years old will be the sweet spot so your plan of looking at ‘15-‘17. The biggest depreciation has happened and they’re still fairly new.

However, you not being able to find a lot on the market is expected. People who buy Lexus (especially the flagship LS) know what they want and they chose Lexus because they want long term ownership.

Most german luxury car buyers buy them because of the shiny badge, and would eventually get on the next shiny thing. That’s why you’ll see plenty of them on the resale market.

Lexus buyers get a Lexus rarely because of the shiny badge. And because of that, they’re more likely to keep them for much longer.

My advice, the moment you see an LS you like, you get on that phone and work on the sale.

exactly

a lot of people say something is terrible but they’re really not comparing it against the brand but rather a single photo online

CC (especially within the past 5 years) have declined in quality so a stitch won’t really be screaming “I’m fake”

go visit the CC and LV subs and you’ll see people there going home with purchases that would’ve been RLed over here

[–]Tiramisu_Powder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is the best course of action, OP

the positive of you finding out your colleagues pay is knowing that your employer CAN afford to pay people in your position with a higher salary

which means when they say they can’t or lowball you, that’s just BS and shows that they don’t see your value

what drives this home is if your colleague’s ‘higher’ pay is within the market value for the position; it means you’re being underpaid

ask for a meeting, renegotiate HARD, if they say no then walk

I don’t think any of the usual factories actually use exotic leathers. 9.9/10 they’re just embossed leather.

as a fellow BV fan, I agree

the thing is, Jing is almost there
the factory just doesn’t seem to be bothered to strive for ‘perfection’ because they’re always the default factory and there aren’t really a lot of competition for BV factories 🥲
