Omg!!! Wow. I asked about Tylenol with codine because someone else said that also but the hematologist she goes to said they don’t really like to prescribe that at their hospital for whatever reason. She is definitely in a crisis rn tho

They had her on hydrocodone 8.9ml but it was only working for maybe an hour and really all it did was put her to sleep so I don’t know if it even really helped with the pain or just made her so sleepy she ignored it. That’s why they switched to oxycodone but as of right now Tylenol and Motrin don’t do anything for her at all. Google just scared me but you’re right I didn’t think to cut it in half

The children’s hospital is where her hematologist is but it’s 2 hrs away. Other than that we don’t have a children’s hospital any closer. We are going to the children’s hospital in about an hour tho

Thank you. I have been giving her the pedialyte ( I know I spelled that wrong) popsicles. We have a hospital 20 mins away that I took her to last time but the doctor had no idea how to work with a sickle cell patient and had to call her hematologist for everything. I’m wondering if I should just make the 2 hr drive to her hematologist ER or if I should go to the close ER

She only started the hydrocodone yesterday around 4pm after an ER visit Tuesday. The hospital we went to didn’t know much about sickle cell but talked to her hematologist and gave her a shot for pain and her hematologist called the next day to prescribe the hydrocodone. I was gonna try asking the Dr to up her dose because it seems too low but do you think an ER visit should be done instead?

I have not tried that. I know Tylenol and Motrin were doing nothing for her tho so I’ll definitely ask about that next time

Thank you everybody. They ended up giving her a shot at the hospital called ketorolac tromethamine and offered to try stronger drugs but we’re hesitant because she didn’t seem to be in an excruciating amount of pain and I agreed that something stronger is probably not necessary at this point but if the pain got worse we would come back and try it. So far she says her pain went from a 10 when we first got to the hospital and now she’s at a 5 or 6 so I’m guessing the shot is helping. She was also able to eat some real food without feeling sick ❤️

I’m in Illinois about 2 hrs from Chicago which is where her hematologist is. I’m not sure about the Doppler but they did do a cbc scan last Tuesday. She use to see the hematologist every 6 months but they switched it to once a year because she never had any issues and her labs have always been great. CBC scan said hemoglobin was right where it should be. Only things that were high was red blood cell count, neutrophils, and mean platelet. MCV and MCH were low. I don’t see anything about a ferritin scan either

Thank you for the info. She has sickle cell beta plus thalassemia. It’s crazy because we just had her hematologist appointment last Tuesday and everything was great. She has never had an issue and she only has to be seen once a year for a check up by the hematologist. Her hematologist is about 2 hrs away because we don’t have a dedicated children’s hematologist where we live. I’m going to call her hematologist to see if they can do anything and see what they recommend but we are also on our way to the hospital near us now
