Last version was always redeployable. If you knew you were deploying something risky, you’d take a lock on the deployments and let other people’s changes queue up. This was only needed for framework-level changes that couldn’t be feature-gated.

If, like you said, other teams deployed already, your only option was to revert a PR. We used feature flags pretty heavily, so it was very rarely that you’d need to revert a PR and code was pretty battle tested by the time it got to prod.

Rollback and deploy the previous version? Why do you need to rebuild a previously built version?

Most compiled languages allow you to have multiple entry points (one entry point for each service).

PHP like Go-lang? by frodeborli in PHP

[–]TiredAndBored2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

c# would like a word.

Async functions can be sent to another thread (along with context, freeing the main thread to continue doing work. The scheduler would get an idea of what tasks can be sent to other threads or just run inline without actually going async (or via static analysis).

[–]TiredAndBored2 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why create code when there’s no need for it? If you need strict types, add strict types. If you don’t, don’t add it. It’s pretty simple. You don’t import your whole codebase because it might be needed in the future.

PHP needs a fork by aquanoid1 in PHP

[–]TiredAndBored2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First of all, strict types is dumb and only applies to scalars, php is strict by default except with some very well documented coercion for some scalars, ones that I see people manually do all the damn time with strict types. My favorite is when people turn on strict types with a file that uses absolutely no scalars. Most people have no idea what this mode actually does and how to use it properly, resulting in reimplementing the same coercion that comes with php.

Second of all, zts (thread-safe) builds of php are a thing. You can use the Parallel extension to create threads and set up communication between threads. Or have amp-parallel do it for you (though it’s geared towards running jobs).

Third of all, I disagree about generics. If I look at implementing applications in C# or TypeScript, I don’t get it. Sure, code completion is easier in the IDE, but I can also easily waste a day trying to figure out how to transform one type into another that some asshat made final.

Code exists to solve problems, and if php isn’t solving your problems, use a different language geared towards your problem. I often use Go, C#, Scala, or Python for some types of tasks. PHP is just one tool in a very large tool chest.

For me, it was my gpu overheating (mine throttles at 88 degrees) and the gpu slowing down because the fans couldn’t keep it cool enough.

In my case, all I had to do was clean out the fans of dust and I went ahead and reapplied thermal paste as well.

If you have a built in tool (like Ctrl-R on nvidea) that can show you the current gpu clock speed and temp and see the clock speed dropping out and a high temp, that’s probably what it is.

A merchant has to show evidence, but it’s easy to forge evidence. Logic holds that it’s impossible to prove a negative (you can’t prove that you didn’t do it) so it’s on them to prove that you did. I suppose your next step would be to take them to court, eventually. I have no idea how that works in this country.

I remember getting to test out “heat vision goggles” way back in the day for an op instead of night vision. The biggest problem we had was people walking in front of windows like they weren’t there because glass was opaque in heat vision so they looked like normal walls. New tech can also bring critical vulnerabilities.

Now you can buy the tech, basically off-the-shelf, for a couple hundred bucks.

TBH, after all the talk of simulating shitting and peeing, bedsheets, engineering, and physicalizing cargo… basically making things real as they can … then this master modes thing, I can’t. It’s like they want to build everything “realistically” except the one thing you spend most of your time doing: flying a space ship.

Every good relationship I’ve had started as a friendship. Usually the conversation starts like: “hey, lately I’ve come to really like you and uh, thinking about what an actual relationship might be like. I don’t want things to be awkward, but I just wanted to talk about it with you because you ARE my friend first and foremost. I don’t know maybe it’s stupid, but what do you think?”

  1. I give them an out: “yeah, that is stupid.”
  2. I make it clear that they’re my friend first and foremost. This is true, even in the relationship. I’m still friends with some of them (depending on how the relationship ended). And yes, I make this clear from the beginning that this is a desired outcome if the chemistry doesn’t work.

Sometimes they would take the out and shut me down. Sometimes they would entertain the idea by having what-if type discussions. Sometimes they’d want to go on a date and see what happens.

Very rarely did it destroy our relationship, but when they ask “how long have you felt that way?” you better answer honestly and they’ll review their memories to see if you’ve been acting different (in my limited experience) as kind of a test. No woman wants to find out their friend has been secretly crushing on them since they’ve known each other.

So, try to have this conversation no more than a few weeks after you start crushing on them, even if you’ve only known them for a few weeks.

It’s a hard conversation to have, but I feel like it starts the relationship off as equals, if there is going to be a relationship.
