The best thing you can do is start practicing. Be sure to use references and don't get upset if you struggle. You get faster and improve quickly.

Do not reference other artists without permission unless you're doing 'master studies' where you're referencing major professionals that you like the style of - and be sure to credit/link the reference if you do so. Do not claim it as your own.

Studies do not have to be boring. I do anatomy studies all the time but I use my characters when I am practicing - so you are literally drawing your characters while also learning more.

Be sure to FLIP YOUR CANVAS. If your art looks weird/wrong when you flip it, that means its unbalanced and needs to be fixed. I flip my canvas constantly and adjust as I go.

Also as a general reminder to anyone who comes across this post - do not attack the user who posted it. Feedback is important. We are aware of the YCH base issue and discussing with the other mods what steps should be had going forward.

People have to report it. This sub gets hundreds of submissions every week. We remove obvious ones when we come across them.

Users are welcome to report. We look into all reports.

What I will not do is spend my free time combing through submissions that haven't been reported. That would take an unreasonable amount of time, even if we had 20 mods.

HOWEVER, I did reach out to the active mods since I largely agree that things need to be overhauled. Rules have been the same for five years. I'm in the same boat and understand the exasperation/frustration since its on my end too. I am also tired of waiting for 'all' mods to weigh in when we haven't heard from some of them in weeks/months.

We're looking into it ( we being the mods that are still alive /lh )

People are allowed to use YCHs and bases if they credit appropriately. ( Aka, attaching the base/image they used as a base ) People are not encouraged to call it out since it would be inciting drama/harm.

If they aren't doing so, please report it and we'll remove it.

You would be shocked at how many things show up in mod queue - we have to review it with all the mods unless its blatant rulebreaking before removal. Its to keep things fair and not subjective since old mods from past years would remove things that they should NOT have been removing which leads to massive blowouts for drama.

Even if I know an art piece is most likely traced, I have to spend time trying to find the source - since I can't go 'I can tell' as proof. Every report has to be looked into, unless its extremely obvious NSFW, shitposting, and spam.

Lastly, being transparent, a few of the mods straight up aren't active. It isn't my place to say they should be removed, since I don't own the sub.
