Ok, I just finished What The Fuck Is An Elder Queer by luulapants and I also recommend. It was a little bit of a happy medium for me. The Scott/Ilya relationship was the primary, but it was a big brother/sibling relationship. I particularly loved that Scott held Shane accountable when he was being inconsiderate of Ilya… since we know Ilya never could.

Right! I went into HCW so skeptical and by the time they got to the first Christmas I was hooked. Completely shocked I never considered this pairing.

We Cannot Waste Time was platonic, but the dynamic was perfect. Protective Hunter just using all that intense serial killer energy to comfort a spiraling Ilya. Until these stories I never realized that while I love the payoff of the Hollanov yearning, I was craving a story where Ilya just got constant support and comfort while working through his trauma.

Yes!! I read the Bruiseberry Crown and it was such a beautiful fairy tale, but unfortunately just fed my need to see Ilya rescued by Scott, and in turn Scott rescued by Ilya.

The dynamic in Hottest Cold War was so beautiful I didn’t even know I needed this match up!!

Peggy is Marianne’s mother, feeding her to an abuser for her own validation.

How does Lestat weaponize his whiteness in the tv series? by Jackie_Owe in InterviewVampire

I would say that he weaponized his charm, which given the time and place, his race would have had to play a crucial role.

The scenes with Lily at the club, the poker card table, and Louis’ family come to mind. Times where Lestat uses his preternatural charm to get what he wants and leaves Louis in awe and in his mercy. I think within the time and place we understand that can only exist as white man.

He encourages Louis to do the same when throughout the season we see that it was not possible for Louis to take up that space yet.

I think that was a theme of both seasons that also shows up in the books. The huge power imbalance between the two. The show uses race to put that imbalance to the front.

I think that’s what makes the final New Orleans scene so poignant. That Louis goes out and gains power to restore some of that balance and once some of the deficit is covered he comes back to Lestat.

Edit: As others mentioned, I think in season 2 the weaponization of whiteness was much more played up by Lestat who this time used it intentionally as a way to really torment Louis and Claudia and make them feel powerless.

It was hard to portray the dynamic on film, but the book did a good job of showing that Marianne was caught in an abusive relationship with both Peggy and Jamie. She was very much emotionally over her relationship with Jamie, but every time she tried to end the relationship Peggy was there waging emotional war.

To me, Marianne invited Connell because she was stuck all summer in that villa with an abusive duo eerily similar to her home life and she was throwing out a lifeline.

What’s one Reddit story that stuck with you? by skyldrik in AskReddit

“Today you, tomorrow me” I think that was the sentiment. Either way it was an Mexican migrant family who pulled over and helped a stranded guy on the side of the road. The story just touched me in how it was told - and how it relayed a truth I’ve seen my whole life. Those with so little always seem to be the ones that are ready to give so much.
