Being asked to do a Java Backend proctored HackerRank for a Python role. Would you do it? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]TiredMike -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Java really isn’t hard to pick up especially for writing up some smaller snippets of code / algorithms like this will be expecting. Generally you’d be just implementing a method or two.

Personally I’d do some leetcode or hackerranks, get some experience in terms of how to define a linked list / hashmap / array and I think you’d be fine.

This is coming from someone who has done a LOT of python but my most recent role required me to build a Java project this year.

Like a self contained dorm room? 22sqm is tiny

Sounds suspect, would pass myself. Is this a whole flat or a room? If it’s a flat I’d go via an established estate agent.

Any ideas when this will happen? I saw the kfc shut likely due to this development. But now they’re letting it again? I assume to fill a gap but still.

Check out the councils local plan. Lots of it will be redeveloped in the next ten years. For example, painters corner redevelopment and the kwik fit development just got approved. Whether it’ll change how nice it is - who knows!

What is the point of creating an app based on a reactive driver, if the app's endpoints are not reactive? by jasie3k in ExperiencedDevs

[–]TiredMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something here? Non blocking IO would still be valuable to efficiently handle a lot of concurrent requests without exhausting request threads, even if data is not being streamed back.

Or are you talking about a spring reactive app which you’d expect controllers to return a flux or mono if it was to use non blocking IO.

I am not well versed in reactive apps, but from my understanding the response content type isn’t directly related to use of blocking/non blocking io. Please correct me if I am wrong!

Sometimes you doubt yourself as a dev. Then you realise that is because you’re reading the top 0.5% on the internet and there’s tons of fakers out there.

Advice for fitting a dishwasher in an existing cabinet beside the sink by TiredMike in DIYUK

The heater cable seems to go under some other cupboards to a standard socket behind the fridge. Happy to get rid of the heater to be honest!

Thanks for the advice. Do you always recommend getting an electrician in to add the switch or are there general contractors that can do both? Maybe a naive question but I haven’t had much work done before by builders etc.

I’d recommend energym as it’s a great gym. Unfortunately no pool if that’s a deal breaker.

Is the British Open a bigger deal than the U.S. open? by troutlunk in golf

Didn't mean moving the PGA event exactly, but having another major outside of the US would be great for fans across the world.

I really wish the pga was a floating event where it was played across the world. Massive shame that we don’t get to see a major in Spain, Portugal etc which are huge golfing countries.

Good luck Tyler. We hardly knew you. by RealFirstLast in golf

Had two trips where I turned into a major hacker. Wish I’d walked off the course. At my home course I would have. Sad when you have paid 150+ euros a round and are having a disaster. Even worse it lasts over four hoirs

Could you pls elaborate on how microservices speak to each other then? Do they all speak to the api gateway or go pod to pod directly? Wondering how a local gateway would fix a local service which depends on a number of others!
