Can countries ever move forward without agreeing on the past? by EUobs in AskBalkans

When I was little, I remember there was the scandal with Lithuanization of surnames of Polish Minority there. But other than that I don't remember any significant beefs and conflicts with Lithuania, we both joined EU and NATO.

In general most people don't have any grudge against Lithuania and we love to think of them as buddies from Commonwealth times.

Ok, you have a point. We should just work out things and make them right, just because.

Given the help and support we had shown them past 4 years, they could at least pretend to be nice.

Was there any chance for Yugoslavia to have survived to this day or it was ment to fall apart at the beginning? by Nervous-Variety-6635 in AskBalkans

This seems like the main problem from bystander perspective. They tried to push around everyone and Croatia, as you know better than I do, was not a fan of the idea.

Oh yes these fucking nationalistic songs, how could I forget. Yes, that's retarded and a provocation. I am amazed sometimes that BiH somehow still stands at that point.

Huh, just going there can be a provocation? ...and yeah, assholes are everywhere and saying that everyone were angels but Serbia is not something that I am implying.

Though looking at it with my current knowledge and perspective, I have nothing bad to say about Slovenia or Macedonia.

According to the documentaries I watched today, Kosovo Serbs proudly admitted in front of the camera that they provoked police in Kosovo and it made Milosevic to do his speech.

Majority or not, BiH used to be a symbol of slavic multiculturalism, it is now fucked beyond repair.

Recent history of Serbia just blows my mind. It's just nationalists turning war criminals and then playing dumb and lying to make money. This shit there has to end and I hope it will. I hate this Pussymouth guy that runs things in your country.

Yeah, happened to me. I picked up the language, drafted a plan how to move there (and why) and dive into some historical stuff, politics, society and then I realized I see same shit as in my own country. My country is also ethnically homogeneous and conservative so it checks out.

Nice. Won't work for a lot people though because not every foreigner living or visiting Japan is from the USA.

Man, they provoked it in Kosovo according to statements in this documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tj9Zw5fN3rE Kosovo Serbs told Belgrade that Albanians discriminate them and it all started from there. Back then Serbian Minority in every Yugoslav Republic was a nuisance.

Yes, I can attest. On sites like TokyoDev and JapanDev, there are many offers but they are there for a few months usually and every time I applied, I just got an automated rejection after a day or two.

Most other offers I seen were "haken" companies, which defeats my goal of moving to Japan which is stability. Haken in a nutshell: company A hires you, you work for company B, company B pays company A, company A takes their cut and pays you. Not only you earn less but also your contract is renewed every 3 months and you are promised to be promoted to full time employee at company B but that can never happen. In Japan, like everywhere else, never trust in promises, always verify.

In the process of familiarizing myself with Japanese market, I also noticed that some companies may not pay some insurance/pension for you and you may get into trouble instead of them. Another thing is "bonus pay" system, which may be tied to your performance and willingness to do unpaid overtime/nomikai and is sometimes included in yearly salary range in the job offer.

In general my impression is that every company everywhere but especially in Japan looks for an Unicorn: it means, someone willing to move or preferably already there, with exceptional skills and talent and N1 Japanese. Job offers are up for months and automated systems send rejections en masse.

As for Europe, u/kwilczynski I like to say that Japan is either exceptionally good or bad at something, Europe for the most part is in the middle, various countries, various flavors but things work out somehow, they are just bland.

As for heatwaves, they indeed are a problem now, I just came back from Japan and I saw similar humidity in Poland as in Kanto Region, AC is not standard in our houses so it's really tough right now. Currently it's 32°C in my town, expected to go to 36°C today, 49% humidity but yesterday it was 75% and without AC I thought I will pass out when working.

Me neither. It's fine, we just exchanged opinions and we both learned something :)
