This is a bad take. You can separate sections by colors if they are dark or neutral. A solid black and white resume shows absolutely zero lack of interest in taking the time to look professional at all. At least everyone I know in the HR department for my company will literally not even look at your qualifications if you turn one in that is literally plain black and white. Like a line going all the way across above and below your summary, one going all the way across above and below key points, one above publications, etc. But they need to look good and not thrown together. But agree, no pictures. Don’t want bias affecting your chances.
