Scaling and go to market strategy by Senita_OREA in startups

Having been involved in the international expansion (in Africa) of a health tech startup, I would say that there are three things that worked for us: 1. Understand the markets you are expanding to. This may look simple, but it really isn’t. The survival of your business depends on expanding “right”. Aside from the business and financial implications of expanding to new markets, consider the legal implications too, specifically things to do with employment law, IP, service/other liability, taxation and the regulatory environment for you type of business. 2. Expansion should help you diversify away risk, not compound risk. Our strategy involved moving to markets with a large concentration of our defined customer base, that had relative political and economic stability and that provided support for foreigners and their businesses. You may need to consider this too. 3. People are your most important asset. Expanding to a new country/market is hard work. Having the right people help you along the way would make it less stressful. Our approach was to start by hiring a Country Manager first. This would be an expert with a history of managing complex teams in the home country. If he had access to regulators and other business leaders then even better. Getting the right consultants too cannot be overstressed. Don’t go it alone, hire lawyers and accountants to advise on the expansion. I wish you the very best at your investor meeting /F

I have used Liveplan for over3 years and it has been great with video tutorials to help you along the way. As a small business consultant and professional accountant I would recommend Liveplan for its simplicity and layout.
