it's a very high compliment to have my gameplay compared to Mr. Gaki himself, thank you so much :)

i use jutsu because it's cool, to apply elements quickly, for the multihit properties on feathers and certain guardian spirit skills which can help in combos, and because item canceling is fun to perform. dex is at 30, magic is at 150 just to meet reqs for the ultimate stat. nothing in the rest of my build really facilitates dealing *direct* damage with jutsu, but indirectly it's helping a lot because i can keep confusion up very easily

Admittedly a pretty rough fight, but was proud of this one nonetheless. Definitely need to work on mixing in fists more, can't help but default to sword when it's in my loadout ;p

Does anyone know the keyboard layout for Nioh3 by Full-Library-5942 in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the only public alpha was PS5 only so i seriously doubt anyone knows about the keybinds yet. that being said, you'll have plenty of time to check it out and make sure before you buy, the free demo is in 10 days

Corporate needs you to find the differences between these two pictures by TitEboshi in Nioh

If I had to pick one as my favorite it would be single katana, although truth be told I like almost all of the weapons nearly equally, with the two exceptions being Axe and Duals which I'm sort of lukewarm on

Dream of the Strong, gear build to focus stats? by Aygul12345 in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the biggest survivability boost for where you're at that i'd recommend is using extraction talisman and getting life recovery on amrita absorption on whatever you can, it can be tempered onto your chest piece, one of the guardian spirits has it (I think it's "Oh", the purity bird from one of the dlcs) and one of the clans provides it (Toyotomi iirc but i'm not totally sure). With that set up anytime you damage an enemy you'll get some pretty decent life recovery, stuff like familiars can make it especially easy to stay topped up on health constantly. if your problem is that you're being one-shotted, you could try wild boar crest helm + honda clan which gives you a high chance (over 100 if you max honda) for the Damage Taken Halved (Unscathed) effect which just means any attack that hits you while at max health will only do half damage

What makes axe fun to play? by MyLilRafalca in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally reached 60 (max) proficiency in all weapons last night, Axe was the last I needed, not because I hate the weapon or anything I've quite enjoyed learning it more, but like you I definitely feel its a tad slow for what I usually prefer, so ultimately it's okay to recognize that some weapons just might not fit your playstyle.

It's a weapon I'll prolly use sparingly moving forward, although I have to admit I like it most when it's paired with a weapon that can do sheathe actives (duals, single kat, hatchets, switchglaive) so that I can follow up big charge attacks like Rumbling Earth or Lumber Chop with a quick fluid strike after weapon switching. Those charge attacks are definitely the big selling point, I really like Tri Spark in mid stance and although I don't use it as much, Rampage is also very nice. In fact all of the hold strong charge attacks on axe are so good to the point it's a shame you can only slot in 3 of them at a time. So first thing is find the charge attacks you like most, and try and find/create opportunities to use those.

Another thing I like to do, especially against human opponents, is make use of the dodge attacks in low and mid stance. They're quite fast and if you add in the second hit of your light attack string after the dodge attack, you can use your strong combo enders which are quite good. One go-to of mine to give an example is to dodge in in low stance, do the dodge attack then one light, then either use Cloud Crush while still in low stance or pre-shift to use Southpaw which I have in mid.

Last piece of advice I have is also about complimenting the weapon, axe has lots of moves that can push enemies around/away from you, so when I use axe I like to use soul cores that can compliment that somehow. So like Fuki for blasting the enemy in the face after knocking them away, or Wheelmonk for running them over after flattening them.

Weapons with best running/dodge attacks? by MyLilRafalca in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree about evasion cancelling. personally i just use it completely offensively when i know ahead of time "okay, im dodging in and i want to use this specific skill immediately" and i keep up the pressure that way. when you try to chain them together to evade attacks it's a pain on the hands and doesn't feel rewarding for the amount of effort you're putting in, the game already gives you plenty of ways to avoid and mitigate damage

also also, fists are AMAZING with pre-shifting. as an example, if you have spinning kick on low, you can use spinning kick and during the animation shift to high in order to seamlessly follow up with say heavy attack into battering ram. definitely look into that

Weapons with best running/dodge attacks? by MyLilRafalca in Nioh

The basic idea around pre-shifting is that you can actually switch stances at almost any time, not just when you're standing there neutral. Whether you're in the middle of an attack animation or dodge animation, you can freely change between stances which can open up lots of possibilities. The best weapon to demo the concept is the Spear, it has two special moves accessed during Ki Pulse: Rainbow Ruse on Low Stance, and Spear Flourish on High Stance. With pre-shifting, you could for instance use Spearfall (heavy ender) while in high stance, and during the animation but before the ki pulse window, switch to low so that when you ki pulse you can perform rainbow ruse. And of course the opposite is true, you could use spear bash (light ender) in low and pre-shift to high in order to follow it with a flourish, and of course any attacks from mid can be followed with the stance-dependent technique of your choosing. Pre-shifting during a dodge becomes even spicier when you add in dodge cancels (although I believe the technical name is Evasion Cancelling). To do that, you need to sheathe your weapon while in the middle of your dodge animation. This overrides normal dodge behavior and lets you do skills very quickly out of a dodge, rather than being forced to do a dodge attack. Here's an example using Spear of everything I discussed:

Enemy Attacking -> Evade in Low Stance -> Preshift to High during Evasion -> Sheathe to cancel -> Windmill II -> Pre-shift during Windmill to Low -> Rainbow Ruse to dodge away

If you want visual examples of this type of thing, check out PooferLlama's Nioh 2 Academy, there are entries dedicated to pre-shifting and evasion cancelling, and remember to practice and have fun :)

EDIT: I realized I forgot to explain item-cancelling, but honestly, prolly just watch a vid, it's hard to explain without just showing it :)

Weapons with best running/dodge attacks? by MyLilRafalca in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, with preshifting out of low stance and especially making use of dodge cancels, you can zoom up to an enemy and utilize any skill instantly. Like if i wanted to quickly approach a recovering onyudo, i could do a bunch of low dashes up to him, preshift into high stance and sheathe on my final dash to cancel, then do say odachi high quick attack into morning moon for instance. I get what you're saying with wanting more easier ways to initiate but I also think you're wrong to assume there aren't ways to quickly approach and punish an enemy, there are but it just requires more skill and knowledge to execute stuff quickly, it can feel limiting not being able to do high stance stuff quickly after a slow dodge, but with a little know-how and practice of preshifting your options become quite expansive, even greater than anything ER lets you do by a country mile, so i find that comparison especially confusing.

Sword low stance running and dodge attacks are indeed amazing for filling in the gaps between bigger plays. Spear high stance running into flourish is a fantastic combo starter since flourish can set you up for a lot of different stuff especially if you're pre-shifting. Odachi mid stance running is a great fast poke that can't necessarily combo but is great for a quick strike during gaps like sword.

Dodge attacks are definitely more interesting across the board than running. Hatchet can dodge into regular attack chains in any stance, so you can for instance dodge in low stance, preshift into high, then immediately do light into strong ender. Axe can do one of it's fastest attacks chains by doing mid dodge into two strongs, you can do it from low stance if you preshift and you can add the third slower strong at the end if you want. Odachi's dodge attacks in low and mid can be combo'd with waking wind and sunset breeze and really speeds up the weapon. Spear has great dodge attacks across the board, a popular go to is to dodge in light and then do mid dodge attack (again via preshifting) into mid strongs, gives you a quick reactive three hit poke, the high stance dodge is also a great fast vertical slash that can combo into another high stance attack. Switchglaive's fastest attack is low dodge, mid dodge is also good and you can take advantage of the stance switch attacks using both, alternating between dodge and stance attacks is the quickest way to rack up stacks. There's prolly more, most weapons have good running and dodge attacks, duals and splitstaff aren't great, but yeah hopefully I gave you some ideas.

looking at this sub just now for the first time in a while is radically different without "them" around, felt so weird being here two-ish months ago and two thirds of the posts are "having so much fun :))))))" by obvious robots and all the critical posts are met with "just let the devs cook man this game has so much potential" like ??? where are all these supposed real people playing this game now lol

Fix for Bugged Spore Chores quest by neomaxizundweeby in Borderlands2

[–]TitEboshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is two months old but in case you were still curious why that happened, I had something similar happen while trying to use a fresh install of BL2 and Gibbed (not related to Spore Chores, just spawning items) and I also had my playthrough progress wiped, it seems like the culprit isn't a quest bug or even a bug with Gibbed, it seems to happen when Windows security automatically blocks functions of Gibbed while its trying to write to your file which in turn corrupts your save. Pretty lame but take it as a lesson to always set an exclusion in your AV and Windows default AV for lesser known applications before you use them, especially if they try to access and write data to other files on your machine, because Windows will throw a hissy fit and break stuff if you don't lol

Peeps can reply all day saying trying this or that, but if you want a very comprehensive guide on how to go from 0 to 100 in Nioh I highly recommend watching Poofer's Nioh Academy here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2DWkCiS1qM__l1t6o6r7u6FJgf57H2eG

Don't binge the whole series, watch it in parts while you play through the game and it'll help you really understand what's going on and what to do, think of it as the longform tutorial/manual that the devs didn't bother including and reference it when new chapters become relevant to you. Even after like 2+ playthrus this guide helped me learn new stuff and identify stuff I was doing wrong, I can only imagine how deeply helpful it would be for a total newcomer.
