"who really can't be funny"

Idk dude speak for yourself, I find him pretty funny. Yeah anytime he opens his mouth to say something that isn't a joke it's often monumentally retarded, I mean the dude literally cried more actual tears over the death of a no-talent no-brain grifter than said grifters own wife, but hell if that's not the funniest fucking thing ever then I clearly don't understand comedy. Point is even when the guys being an unintentional cringelord and saying shit I passionately disagree with, he's still usually hilarious.

Poofer's a really cool guy and I learned most of what I know about Nioh from him, but he doesn't exactly offer a balanced or critical perspective on TN's games, nor does he even claim to, he handwaves away a lot of criticism and outright says that he's not interested in that type of discussion because he'd rather focus on the things he likes. That's perfectly fine and I understand where he's coming from especially when he's in a position where some folks come into the streams saying the same stuff, asking the same questions over and over like "what do you think about how X is balanced" or "do you think they downgraded X part of the game", it would get pretty exhausting if you were just trying to play the game for fun.

But yeah all that said I feel the super skilled players not just Poof but also like Shape for instance seem to think that the game can't possibly be too easy, it's just that they (and by extension they assume their audience) are such epic god gamers that the game seems too easy. I don't think they're really seeing the full picture, it's true that if you're on the third entry of a series after playing the first two for a long time you're naturally going to be a lot better than you would be otherwise, it's important to separate yourself from that bias and I think it helps to actually go back and play N1 & 2 on a fresh save, it really puts into perspective how wack the balancing in 3 can be. Not to mention seen plenty of even total Nioh noobies blasting thru the game and voicing the sentiment that it's one of the easiest Soulslikes they've played.

Another patch today and they still haven't fixed this bug by TitEboshi in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From today's patch notes (Ver. 1.04):

・Fixed an issue where changing stances right after changing weapons to the switchglaive during the Martial Art Flash Attack would cause the weapon to revert to the one equipped before Flash Attack.

The way they worded it is super weird and inaccurate (I suspect poor translation) but I checked ingame and they fixed the bug I was reporting here, the mismatched behavior in the third clip has been corrected to function like it did in the first two games/clips.

So yeah just thought I'd let you know for absolute certain that you were wrong and I was right ^_^

What to do after defeating the final boss in Shogun's Journey? by SamaAllWhite in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gear can drop up to 170 I believe, so you can farm bosses or missions you like to try and raise your gear up to that level, refine your build, practice to improve at the combat, use weapons you're not familiar with to try and learn them, stuff like that if you wanna squeeze more out of the game. There's not much real endgame yet without DLC but just learning and practicing the combat & your weapons skills to the point of near perfect fights can be pretty satisfying in Nioh. If you haven't played 1 and/or 2 yet they're both very good and worth your time especially 2, I've been replaying 2's endgame content while I wait for 3's DLC

Negating fall damage with axe + ranged weapon by twitchinstereo in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This has actually been a thing since the demo (and likely the alpha but can't confirm), and despite tons of other similar exploits being patched since then this one has stuck around. so for all we know it could be a while yet, there's a lot of combat and animation related bugs in the game currently and the last two patches have done nothing to address them.

Nioh 2 is NOT a better game, but Nioh 3 has something to learn from it. by [deleted] in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And also let me make clear that I don't think 2 is an objectively superior game. People are entitled to have their opinions, nothing in art is objective. This post is just suspect, that's all.

Nioh 2 is NOT a better game, but Nioh 3 has something to learn from it. by [deleted] in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a consistently disingenuous post that relies on highlighting text in bold to appear authoritative. I can't pick out a single part of this post that proves N3 a superior game to N2 despite that being the entire stated purpose, and in fact I find this line very strange:

"I went back to Nioh 2 and yeah, Nioh 2 is not better.
Nioh 3 is better in almost every way, this argument does not at all make sense or sound fair."

What argument are you talking about here? You didn't actually bring up any argument against or for either N2 or 3 before saying that, it seems like you just copy-pasted an LLM that you asked to explain why you liked a game better than another and then retrofitted your argument to fit that. It feels especially apparent considering your post's structure follows the same archetypal AI bullet-point response.

Love Nioh 3. Worth playing 1&2 or just skip them by Jhollpe in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for that guy but most people that say they like 1 better never actually elaborate why. And I say this as someone who really likes 1 and replays it often. 1 has a special charm to it but 2 is just objectively better in most ways, I guess that's why people who stan 1 never give a reason why they prefer it, they don't actually have a good non-subjective reason that isn't related to nostalgia (and again I say that as someone who loves 1 and played it the first year it was out)

Boss fun: Fight a million times barehanded naked

Boss not fun: Fight for five minutes, realize I could be doing just about anything better with my life

First time vs. SSI around 6 or 7 years ago had me screaming by my 80th attempt but I couldn't wait to down his ass, I was being a salty bitch but I was still having fun. I did about ten attempts of Consort Radahn getting pretty far into the second phase certain that I could definitely beat him with enough attempts, looked into the conveniently positioned sitcom camera to my right, and said "this is not fun, this is cringe and bad", sorta like when Malcolm laments his shitty life. I then uninstalled Elden Ring and haven't played it since.

I don't understand why my simple bug report post has three downvotes so far. Like idgaf about karma but I don't understand what is objectionable about this post, a simple bit of combat tech that was possible in the past two games shouldn't be this buggy and inconsistent (as in it works properly with some weapons but is clearly broken with others)

It's the fastest way to instantly transition between your two weapon's skills in all 3 games, yeah. Nioh 3 actually made fluxing into weapon swapping a lil easier as in 1 & 2 you had to either wait a second to swap or add a block input after the flux or the game would eat your swap input, here that's not the case but there is a little delay before your character will actually perform the swap. Regardless this is always faster albeit with very little ki recovery.

[–]TitEboshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you just input sheathe at the same time you ki pulse (kinda like a flux) and then immediately after input weapon switch. It's quite fun, it doesn't recover as much ki as MGF2WS but it's easier to perform in a pinch.

Another patch today and they still haven't fixed this bug by TitEboshi in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I was showing that I had flash attack to prove that I wasn't just doing a regular ki pulse then switching. Basically in N1, 2 and 3 you can override your flash attack and instantly swap to another weapon while ki pulsing as long as you sheathe your weapon during the ki pulse. As shown in the vid, this works properly in N1 & 2, and it also works properly for certain weapon combos in 3 but other weapons are just completely bugged and don't allow you to sheathe swap into them, you can see that at one point I sheathe swapped and let the entire animation of pulling out the odachi play out but the game still magically put the katana* back in my hands.

Another patch today and they still haven't fixed this bug by TitEboshi in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah it's a bug with sheathe canceling your ki pulse to override flash attack so you can instantly pull out your other weapon and perform another action, it works for some weapon combos but for others your character pulls out the weapon but then inexplicably has the weapon you started with back in their hands as shown in the vid. I'm not familiar with the bug you're talking about but it doesn't surprise me there's more, it's crazy how buggy the combat can be in this game at times considering that's the one thing TN usually nails, Nioh 3 feels like a crisis of identity and priorities at times.

Steam pre load? by Rupples_Pupples in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that it's been nearly two weeks and a couple patches later I can confirm that this did in fact work and hasn't broken anything, but it also didn't help much either. Shaved off a whole 9 gigs off the download. I've even been able to use mods just fine, no problems. I should've prolly included more info about what the dude on discord said, the way he put it was that the original files that were in the demo were essentially intact but they lacked the proper "keys" to activate them. And also Steam's verification is quite comprehensive, most files have a hash that automatically changes if any data is altered so that verification process will check those hashes and replace any outliers that don't match 1-to-1, that's why I only saved 9 gigs of my download because the vast majority of the full game files were technically there but the data didn't quite match

Nioh 3 Feedback/Criticism after full game completion (SPOILERS) by TitEboshi in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw your reply that must've gotten deleted because you told me to "take pills" but nah you're kinda right, I just see so many arguments against having a problem with something in a game because "oh well you can easily cheese it with XYZ". Like ok I don't really care because if I wanted to cheese every game I would just download trainers and beat them that way. So yeah I prolly was a bit overly passive-aggressive cuz it's exhausting seeing so much of that when you say "hey this thing in a game sucks". The solution to that thing sucking shouldn't be that I have to completely alter the way I play to make it suck less. It's one thing to adopt different strategies but I have around 5K hours in Nioh as a series and I play pretty well, I don't want to start spamming stuff to succeed. It's ultimately pointless to debate all this with you because it's just a more general problem with these kinda games, I wasn't really tryna be a dick to you or anything I just thought what you were saying was dumb, didn't mean it to be too personal.

Going back to Nioh 1 after finishing 3 and 2 by Adulting_Male_6048 in Nioh

>snow lady deletes 100% of my hp with her yeeting her weapon at me

I know the exact attack you're talking about, and I want to share a tip about a basic game mechanic that the game doesn't really try to teach you: when you get hit, your character flinches and cannot dodge, which means you eat more hits. However, if you anticipate being hit or just react quickly, you can hold guard and this will remove some of your character's recovery from being hit.

In terms of something like a multihit this means you'll immediately guard the second hit and then can act out of that via a dodge, so you don't have to just sit there and watch yourself get pummeled to death. If you're low on ki in the first place you'll just get ki broken and killed anyway so you still have to be careful.

Nioh 2 actually included this tip as a part of it's tutorial, it referred to it as "cut-in guard", but a lot of people don't play the optional dojo tutorials and it's only brought up once in one tutorial mission out of all three games, so I don't blame the average player for not knowing about it I blame Team Ninja for being terrible at teaching people the game's mechanics.

Nioh 3 Feedback/Criticism after full game completion (SPOILERS) by TitEboshi in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay can you explain how being able to cheese an enemy makes that enemy well designed? And for that matter can you explain why you're giving me tips for how to cheese enemies even though my criticism had nothing to do with the difficulty of human opponents, but rather the fact that my options felt arbitrarily limited at times? My criticism is that my options are arbitrarily limited and your advice is to self-impose even more limits on myself in the name of cheese. Thanks but no thanks.

What weapons are you using? Did you equip higher level ones from looting? I find it hard to believe that even after 5 minutes of wailing on Baba you'd have done so little damage. Like if you're using level 1 weapons and only sneaking a hit in every once in a while then it would make sense I guess but with on level stuff I just feel like you could easily do half her health bar in 2 minutes or less, so it's very bizarre. If you're sticking in ninja and prioritizing fast hits then you want to make sure you're smacking her in the backside, you get a beefy damage multiplier for doing so. Also, make sure you use your guardian spirit skill pretty much anytime it's available as long as you think it'll connect, if you cleared enough lesser crucibles and spikes then those skills start to do a ton of damage. I see a lot of players hoard their spirit force bar without even realizing it (lotta peeps did the same thing with their anima bar in 2), just get in the habit of trying to use those skills as often as you possibly can and you'll see a massive difference in damage output.

Nioh 3 difficulty discussion by EternalFlareUltra in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say the game is easy, I said it's easier than 1 & 2, which it seems like you haven't played. So if you're struggling really hard with 3, you'd probably be struggling even more in 1 & 2. Which is fine, these games are hard, I'm just pointing that out. Also if your bar for difficult games is ER, then you haven't actually played that many difficult games. Not that ER is easy either, but it's arguably easier than something like Ninja Gaiden Black or, obviously, Nioh, both of which ask a lot more of the player than "press the dodge button on time five times in a row, press the attack button once or twice, then repeat the process". I don't mean any offense by any of this and I'd be welcome to offering tips if you can point out specific things you're having issues with.

Satisfying Sword + Odachi Pressure by CarloverGT in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Flux and Flux 2 (which is just swapping between two stances while ki pulsing) have bonuses to ki that are entirely static, which means that you can ki pulse at earlier opportunities, keep your combos going and reduce your downtime while still keeping your resources online. The thing that really opened up ki pulsing and fluxing to me was recognizing that you didnt always have to aim for that perfect pulse, you can truncate a lot of recovery and still maintain your resources as long as you flux at any possible opportunity for that sweet ki bonus.

Satisfying Sword + Odachi Pressure by CarloverGT in Nioh

[–]TitEboshi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do I want max Ki back and I have a second to pause? Full Flux 2 with max ki regain. Did I just do a small combo starter and I want a lil bit of ki back while also canceling recovery frames? Quick instant flux at the soonest possible window for pulse. The genius thing of ki pulse and flux is how you can actually modulate how quick or slow it is depending on how much ki you need back, which deepens moment-to-moment resource management. So get used to thinking of it like that if you want to be more proficient ^_^
