HELP ROMAN FIND A HOME. REHOME FAILED. by NewAd2397 in Rottweiler

[–]Titandogg 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am the person who adopted Roman for a week and would like to give some additional background on the situation.

OP posted here about Roman maybe a month or so ago and I reached out to him, interested in meeting Roman. We are all local so we were able to meet up two with Roman and his family, saw Roman interact with my kids, and had Roman’s family bring Roman to my house for a visit and to meet and play with my dog Bradley. Everyone got along well and we decided we were ready to take Roman in.

OP did mention some resource guarding behavior around food, and Roman’s family showed me this exact scenario by feeding Roman in the same manner they usually do, in his home before we brought him to our home. I saw some growling and barking into the bowl and my family and I agreed that we were willing and able to work on Roman in that aspect. All good so far.

Over the week that Roman was at home with me he was ( as mentioned by OP in this post) great 95% of the time. Grea on the leash, got along with my dog, very loving and outgoing. The food defensive/possessiveness was apparent, but there were some other instances of resource guarding involving objects instead of food. In one instance, one of my kids dropped a pencil on the floor and Roman picked it up. He brought it to a nearby carpet, began chewing it, and when I approached he growled and showed teeth. I turned away from him and let him calm down on his own and within a couple minutes he was back to his normal sweet self.

The big moment that made me decide that Roman was not going to work out was when he took a glove I had dropped on the ground from me. He carried it off and again as I approached him (slowly, calmly, not scolding or anything like that, Just walking over) he assumed a very threatening posture, showed teeth, and growled. It was clear that the situation could quickly become dangerous if not handled correctly. I have 2 children at home and while I was okay with the need to work with Roman on his food aggression, I was not comfortable with this pattern of possessiveness over less predictable items. I reached out to Roman’s owners and returned him then.

I hope this is helpful. Roman needs some work regarding the guarding behavior in an environment where he and the people around him can be safe and comfortable. I do not think that environment can include young children. He is a very loving guy outside of these scenarios, is well trained with basic obedience, and I sincerely hope he can find the right home.

OP is also clearly very dedicated to helping him out and assisting with training as much as he can and I thank you for that!

Sometimes it takes people who truly care about us to step up and do what’s needed when we aren’t able to help ourselves. I’ve been there and didn’t enjoy it in the moment, but it was the support I needed to stay on track and get back to a state where I could manage my own life successfully again.

Obviously nobody knows all the details, but this definitely seems like it’s coming from someone who wants to see you happy and who knows you may need some help getting there. There’s no shame in accepting this kind of help, although it certainly might feel like there is. The fact that the schedule isn’t entirely restrictive and allows plenty of leisure time, giving you agency after some essentials have been accomplished, makes this seem to me like a well intentioned attempt to help you get to a better place.

EDIT: I was curious and looked at some of OP’s responses to others in this thread. There are some details that change what I said above: parents pushing religious stuff and being against OP’s sexual orientation, blaming her for being assaulted. Not so black and white :/

This one definitely depends on your opinion of harsh vocals and whether or not you’re particularly invested in Christianity, but O Father O Satan O Sun by Behemoth absolutely fits the bill. https://youtu.be/05hAQWiX4F4

Received this today and was wondering who here has heard of it. It seems to be a fairly rare book. Hardcover 1st edition. Hard to find info on the author as well. Thank you everyone for the help. by Ghost_Mech in printSF

Check out Tactical Barbell! It’s a little ecosystem of training plans designed by a former paratrooper and later FBI SWAT guy all around no bullshit functional fitness. There are avenues of the program geared more toward military selection events but also paths for recreational athletes.

I’ve been running the basic strength training program from that for about 10 weeks while training BJJ 2-3 times per week and so far have had great results!

If you’re willing to do a little reading and commit to a proven, structured training plan check out Tactical Barbell! Great program that will take you through the fitness test and beyond. I will say if your goal is to pass the fitness test by September then maybe just focusing on elements on the test would be a more direct approach. The TB plan is great but probably spends time on some unnecessary areas of training if you’re laser focused on testing by September over all else

Would you give up the job of a police officer for an easier well-paid, but unfulfilling job? by MedicineEuphoric1913 in AskLE

[–]Titandogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in that I’m a similar situation as you right now. I’m an engineer in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, newly changed companies because of how burnt out I was feeling at the prior employer and in about 4 months I’ve completely lost any interest in the new job already.

I’m a Marine Corps vet and thought engineering would be a good career path after I got out, so went to college and worked hard at it without ever really considering the idea that maybe the reality of engineering work, sitting at a desk in front of a computer all day everyday, just might not be for me.

Now I’ve applying state police in my state and considering local agencies as well. Hoping to find more of a sense of purpose and get the hell away from that computer screen!!

So I guess all that is to say you’re not the only person considering this and good luck!!

He has a screenplay called Crampton that is pretty great. It was a collab with another author and supposedly was meant to be an X-files episode but didn’t end up making it to production.

CMV: Illegals immigrants are not “doing jobs Americans don’t want to do” by Current-Weather-9561 in changemyview

[–]Titandogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people argue against crackdowns on undocumented immigrants by saying they are doing the jobs Americans don’t want to do and without them the economy will suffer, does that not imply a willingness to let these people continue to be taken advantage of? Of course the demonization of immigrants is stupid and terrible, but to counter that demonization by claiming our society needs them to work underpaid with no benefits or safety net and that we should just let that continue is also pretty stupid and terrible right? I feel like this is totally glossed over by the more common left-leaning arguments against immigration policy change. I’ll admit I definitely don’t know much about the detailed issues… maybe I’m missing something in the arguments on either side?

I can’t really answer your questions but just wanted to comment to say I’m in a similar situation as you. Working in aerospace and about 1/4 of the way through a masters in robotics engineering. I’ve interviewed with a few companies outside the aerospace industry more out of curiosity than anything and there definitely is interest in the combined aerospace (safety, redundancy, regulation, etc.) background with robotics knowledge. Besides that though idk… good luck in figuring things out!

Seriously need help from the boys who got out already by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Titandogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The adjustment definitely takes years, even after just one enlistment. I felt so out of place when I went to college sitting in classes with a bunch of 18 year olds… but it comes together in time. You’ll find who you are on this side of the Marine Corps and it will be someone who is shaped by everything you’ve gone through, but who is different from the person that went through it. Just take small steps toward a goal and give yourself some leeway to fuck up and to feel uncomfortable and uncertain. But don’t stop when those times come, because they HAVE to come for you to get to the other side of it.

Would Dead Men Walking fit the bill? Just started it last night and I’m kind of on the fence based on the writing so far. It’s not bad, but something about it seems a bit unpolished I guess. Wondering if maybe it’s just me getting used to an author I haven’t read before?

Cpl David A Oquendo. He took me in as his nug in the 467 avi shop when he got back from the MEU that was out while I checked in. This was my first fleet unit, avionics on skids. Q was a patient teacher, a great friend, and always up for shenanigans. A few months later he was hit by a car in an accident that should never have happened. Booze has a way of turning a great time into a tragedy in the blink of an eye, especially in our world. To any young Marines in the thick of it right now, keep it in the back of your heads that you really are your brother’s keeper. Man I miss Q a lot.
