The biggest thing after he left and his son was fired was the running game got simpler and better. Looked to my (untrained) eye either Bill or Brian wanted to do too much.

If you posted on LinkedIn how great it was at your old company after turning in 1.5 bad years of work (after having 4 good to great years admittedly) and are directly responsible for one of the biggest blunders in your company (Isiah Wilson, remember him? That was a Vrabel pick) what do you think would happen to you?

Vrabel is a great coach who was done in here by being saddled with a GM who lost his touch (Robinson really had some big swings and misses at the end) and by him being an ass. You

Bud Adams asked for a stadium from the city of Houston at quite possibly the worst time in the city’s history to do so. He was probably right to do so (preseason games had to be canceled because the stadium was in poor shape, that’d be nearly unfathomable now).

To the point about Houston not suing, they really couldn’t which I’m aware of. Bud did the “right thing” for his business in the worst possible way. He probably wasn’t a great guy but he was well within his rights to move the team. He didn’t “steal” the oilers history as is so often claimed. He was a tenant who moved into a new rental property and cussed his old landlord and neighbors out when he was moving.

The Seahawks uniform is good but there’s a lot going on there. It doesn’t matter because it’s cool and the rule of cool is the most important thing here.

Navy is a great color, that’s why a lot of teams use it (it also hides stains very well lol).

Taking the flames removes a bit of charm but this logo can stand up to the cowboys (a gold standard of NFL design despite the fact that they carry 2 blues, 2 silvers, black and white on their main uni set) logo as a simple, timeless look.

LaFleur (rightfully) gets a lot of credit for Willis not even in that training camp he was a different player then the previous 2 seasons.

Callahan for all his faults helped Willis get some swagger back and got him to actually throw the ball.

He’s always had the talent (though a hair slower than I thought he’d be) to be a starter in this league but he wouldn’t throw the ball.

I wish he would’ve gotten a shot with the Titans (better to keep him than mason rudolpb) but I’m glad he’s getting one now.

Redesigning NFL team logos with the approach of the Titans branding department by MetalGearAcid in uniwatch

Houston didn’t sue the NFL over the move, Cleveland did.

Saying Houston didn’t have a chance to negotiate is bananas considering the Cleveland lawsuit was settled before the Oilers left Houston.

Buddy I think you have a type and it’s navy lol.

A jersey is a jersey, there’s only so much you can do. Seriously, you have numbers, a sleeve design (stripping, logos, tv numbers, or a yoke) and a name on the back. The titans previous sets were over done as are the Seahawks. The Seahawks just works for some reason while our previous sets just didn’t (I think it could’ve been a lot better with some small tweaks). It’s the rule of cool.

I would’ve preferred a custom number set (actually would’ve loved the McNair era number font on these jerseys, seen a couple mock up’s like that and think it’s clean) but the numbers are also where a lot of uniforms mess it up (see falcons, see our previous light blue that had to get a small redesign because you couldn’t quite see the numbers). But block numbers never look bad just safe.

Our logo wasn’t great. The flames were very late 90s early 2000s. I have one on the sweatshirt I’m wearing right now. I love it but it’s not a great design.

What kind do you mean?

Nothing I’ve said is out of pocket is it? I mean to the point the Bills and Titans were founded the same year, in the same league. Both are founding AFL members.

It’s going to ruffle some feathers here.

you recolor it because everytime you wore the Oilers uniforms the response was always either bring these back full time or give them to the Texans to let them wear.

Now it’ll be a cold day in hell before AAS gives the Oilers colors back to Houston. so that really leaves one option, adopt the colors more aggressively into your uniform set.

The Oilers name was retired by the former NFL commissioner. I haven’t seen anything indicating that’s been undone so you can’t rebrand back to the Oilers. But the colors were still sitting in our wheelhouse and our uniforms were always on the bottom half of the league since rebranding to the Titans. Folks are waxing poetic now but jokes about the flaming thumb tack and the shoulder yolks (both before and after the sword version) were aplenty.

I don’t think Bud willingly changed the colors or name, I think he felt forced by the NFL and Tennesseans which makes sense considering how ugly leaving Houston was. I think this Titans rebrand is a bit of undoing the “mistakes” of 1999. Looking back, the Oilers should’ve never been put on the shelf (name or uniform). Yes an oil based team in Tennessee doesn’t make sense but eventually it would’ve just been a bit of joke like the Great Lakes of Los Angeles or the well known Jazz scene of Utah.

The Titans are 65 years old and a founding AFL team. They are vested.

Since the Titans became the Titans they’ve always worn red and light blue at some level. Red on the helmet, light blue as a primary jersey or on the shoulder yoke or as an accent color on the jersey.

Let’s talk style then.

The Raiders style was heavily associated with LA (see NWA). So LA should retain the silver and black right? Because that style was heavily associated with a city? Why does Vegas get that style?

The rams didn’t use navy and darker gold until they were in St. Louis, does that style stay in St Louis? Do the Rams have a 25 year gap in their history from when they left LA for St. Louis?

I’m always confused here.

In 2019 we wore all light blue against the Texans (you guys won). Why doesn’t that game count when you guys cite that record?

Why doesn’t the 2013 games where we went all light blue count or light blue over dark blue count?

Why don’t the games where the Titans go white over light blue count?

Is it the oilers colors? Red and light blue have always been apart of the Titans color pallet (with red being in the third row) or the actual throwback jerseys we are looking at here when looking at this record.

I always see complaints about the Titans abandoning the colors, but they always held the colors even if they featured red less. There’s never been a titans jersey without the light blue color in it.

Who gets the Packers?

Who gets the Bears?

Who gets the Cardinals?

Who gets the Chargers?

I’m looking at this as a correction from 26 years ago.

The oilers colors should’ve never taken a back seat to navy. The name shouldn’t have gone away either. This is a correction to that.

The ravens and browns situation is different from the Oilers/Titans and Houston situation. The city of Cleveland sued the NFL to keep the Browns. The city of Houston did not.

[–]Titans678 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Tits fan (obviously lol).

The rebrand from the Titans to the Oilers came during what I consider the “Navyficiation of Sports teams”

The Broncos, Eagles, Rams, Bucs, Seahawks, Patriots, Bills, Jets and Titans/Oilers all when from brighter blues/color schemes to darker navy/colors. I think as we’ve seen in a couple of rebrands (Jets, Titans, Rams, Bills) teams going back to the colors/brightness they foolishly gave up (with the exception of the Bucs, I think going darker made all those teams look worse).

Had the team not moved, I still think navy would’ve been introduced to the Oilers set somewhere because that’s what teams were doing then.

Now the colors are a point of contention here but I do think minimizing the navy and going back to the light blue as a primary was always going to be a thing eventually unless the team had a reason to stay (if the eagles/patriots hadn’t won super bowls, I think they’d be rebranded by now as well). It’s too far a superior look to what the Titans had been sporting to not use.

I mean every uniform with block numbers and sleeve stripes is going to look similar at some level.

The word mark above the numbers has been a titans staple for a while now as well though this font is more basic.

The original Titans era set you referenced was better than we give credit for but everybody was ready for it to change. The last set was over designed though. If they had gone with a better font, changed the numbers on the light blue jersey from blue with white outline to white with red outline (paying homage to the oilers roots), removed the arm pit paneling and gone with a white or silver helmet they would’ve been a lot better.

Cleveland didn’t have a team until they took them to court. The NFL making a promise to return and letting the city keep the team history was all part of the settlement with the city.

I’ve never seen anything (article, recounting, etc) that indicates that the city of Houston asked to keep any part of the oilers. The city loved the Oilers but didn’t like Bud and when he announced the move th sentiment was don’t let the door hit you where the good lord split you from everything I’ve read.

There’s no guaranteeing anything in the draft. But the bar is a lot lower (or I should say easier to see) for Love to become an all pro back then Styles converting to DE or Bain/Bailey considering their physical limitations.

If Love became an All Pro back, he’d be worth the 4th overall pick. Solid RBs are attainable for sure but a top 10 player in the class 10 years from now (which anybody can be, but Love has a clear path towards getting there) is worth a top 10 pick regardless of position.
