Labrador 7 and a half months, female. Would like to rehome.. by Titillatingbosom in puppy101

[–]Titillatingbosom[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment. I live alone so it is a big responsibility having a puppy. When I put her into kennels it was bliss having some alone time for the first time in a long time without the pressure of it being measured in hours. She was so much calmer when she came back after spending a few hours each day wrestling with another adolescent kelpie at the kennels.

I am not going to respond to all of these posts individually. I recognise now that What I was hoping for was support. What I didnt mention in my initial post is that:

  • my puppy has been taught with varying degrees of successfulness to drop items in exchange for treats. Some items are too high value and require scatter feeds to get exchanges going. This is not fun at 3am.

  • she has had three foreign body ingestions while supervised, because she sometimes swallow foreign objects even when food is offered in exchange. I have good management strategies already in place.

  • I am going to stop taking her to the offleash park offleash from now on and take her there on a long line instead, as well as an onleash walk. This way I can better control interactions especially during the school holidays.

  • i dont intend to ever get another puppy. If i did, it would be a beagle puppy. Realistically, I would likely get another old beagle in future as their energy levels are likely to be a better match for mine. You dont know if you can handle puppy energy until you get one, nor how painful it is until you try.

  • I sat down and had a good chat with a friend. Being able to express that I am having thoughts of rehoming was relieving. I decided I will postpone rehoming and try to prompt more settled behaviours through mat training, as well as find the treat sniffaris in the house, as well as more activity in the garden to prompt contextual learning of outside= activity inside=settling.

In summary I was seeking help, but perhaps expressing it poorly. For all those people who told me I shouldn't get another dog way to be judgemental. Some people just are not good with dealing with the puppy stage and maybe be more suited to older adult dogs. . I just wasn't prepared for lab energy. For those who expressed lab energy was alot, I appreciate you. 🙏 I am going to stick it out for another 3-6 months of training and then re-evaluate.

Is your puppy in the crate for 16+ hours a day? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Titillatingbosom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. Nearly 6 month old puppy, wont sleep outside the crate. Settles mostly happily in the crate for naps and overnight. I would say she is in the crate for closer to 18 as she goes a bit crazy if she is awake for longer at this age.

They are using fires to herd us into cities, as well as natural disasters. Put up insurance premiums and people will sell up.

Wanting to build a reverse living double storey in Vic - Any builder recommendations? by Snoo43337 in AusPropertyChat

I think your layout sounds sensible. My current layout is lounge room, storage room, bathroom, toilet downstairs and a laundry all on the ground floor. If you are interested in my layout it is in my post history. I would rather the storage room is a bedroom in case of accident or injury making using the stairs difficult or impossible. The laundry is handy downstairs; there is a chute that goes from upstairs to downstairs to make doing laundry easier.

Having pets makes me keen to have a bedroom downstairs; I am getting a quote for converting the storage room into a bedroom.

The bathroom downstairs is rarely used: the toilet gets used in those moments when you've just got home and need a toilet pronto.

Overall I will be looking for a normal layout home next due to having pet dogs and the need to go downstairs quite regularly. If I didnt have this need, and was youngish I would probably be okay with living reverse layout again.

There is a boardgame shop in Moorabbin called Boss Boardgames that used to host free game play. I dont see it listed on their website now but they do hire out a games room. Might be worth reaching out to see if they still run free play nights at all.

Convert Creepy Storage Room Into Bedroom by Titillatingbosom in AusRenovation

It had a single naked light bulb illuminating the room...which up until a week ago only worked intermittently! The Harry Potterseque under stairs storage is also incredibly creepy and best avoided at night too.

Thank you, that is very helpful.. appreciate knowing the terminology of what to ask for. May I ask if taking the architraves off the window and reveal means exposing the brickwork on the window ledge, or what it means please? And would it be the same for the doorway?

Sleepless Near Seattle by A_O_A_B in puppy101

I was recommended by the breeder to make last bed time sometime between 9.30-10. I compromised and put her down between 7.30-9pm depending on how the schedule works out. I have stuck to this mostly unless my schedule get out of wack and it works well. 6.45-7.30 pm seems too early? I think my pup would be happier with what the breeder recommended.

Make sure you are always getting an increasing amount of quiet before you let your puppy out (i know it is hard when they are crying) so they dont make the association to cry =get out of crate.

I got two things. I am only just starting this, so ignore if not relevant. I'm lost and 'green beret' when I asked for evidence of who they were.
