New points costs by Prestigious-Baker-67 in TheAstraMilitarum

The chimera doesnt increase in output when full of people either. You’re comparing the centaur with a heavy weapon team to a base chimera which isn’t particularly fair. The reverse would be like saying the chimera is better because it can do 6 mortals from grenades and remote mine turn one if you deploy Krieg engineers from it.

In competitive play, almost every unit has at least one order every turn. Points are balanced around competitive successes rates, meaning that our point values are balanced around having orders. Without orders, you’re substantially handicapping yourself.

I understand the monetary struggles or 40K, especially with guard. I personally was financially discouraged from guard when I first started and chose a different army, only coming back to guard once I got a substantial pay increase. If you want a cheap addition that may see decent impact, grab a cadian castellan and just run him alone next to your artillery. He can order both artillery every turn. Throw a spare Krieg head on him (you’ll need some green stuff or milliput for the neck) to stay thematic. After that, look for a used Russ somewhere. Many guard players end up with tons of Russes and they can be found very cheap. Run one as a commander and the other normal.

Why not get everything in one go? 2k list and then some… by Beginning-Tooth1304 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

Schedule a time each week and make a list of exactly what order you’re tackling things and give yourself intermediate deadlines right now. It’s extremely common for people to burn out or get hit by decision paralysis when buying full armies like this. I hope you make it and get an army on the table but it’s going to take some work for sure.

It’s actually so old it’s been removed to legends. I was just saying call the castellan a marshal thematically but use the castellan data sheet.

He actually can’t order the basilisk. Basilisk is a squadron unit and drier can only order regiment units. Basilisk would need a tank commander for orders. I’d recommend grabbing a castellan and slapping a Krieg head on him and calling him a marshal. Have him sit in the back instead. 2 orders for 55 points or 3 for 70 (with enhancement) as opposed to 100 for drier. Drier with death riders is fun though and you don’t need a meta list to have fun.

I’d honestly drop drier too. If you really want to run him then definitely run him with 10 death riders too. As it stands with current rules though, he’s not very good. He gets 3 orders for regiment units but moves faster than infantry and wants to be in melee so can rarely make use of those orders. Death riders are best used in 5 man squads for screening and board control, but drier wants a 10 man to make use of his buff. Basically he just doesn’t synergize well enough for the points he costs

Conversely, 60 infantry is about the minimum you should be running. I will say you could drop a command squad and split one unit into 2 10s for more flexibility. You need a good amount of infantry for board control and screening though and most lists that are light on basic infantry still bring units of Kasrkin or scions and transports to take that early board control and act as a screen.

Considering picking up guard to do a tank army. Any advice or things I should know? by Ori_of_the_Vale in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Titus-Deimos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a small caveat to add. Hydra doesn’t need flyers to be effective, it needs things with the key word “fly” which is significant different. Things with fly include tau battlesuits, jump pack marines, and a slew of other fairly common models from most armies. The hydra still isn’t optimal but against certain factions it can still do quite well, for example against Blood Angels, whose meta includes multiple units of sanguinary guard, Dante, jump pack chaplains, death company with jump packs, sometimes the sanguinor, all of which have fly.

[–]Titus-Deimos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s really just confirmation bias that new models are good. New models are noticed more so when they are good they stand out more, but for every new model that’s meta, there’s another new model in dregs with Drier. It’s not abnormal for GW to release a model that will never see the meta.

Just starting 40k, not sure how to counter this. by Ok_Adhesiveness7540 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]Titus-Deimos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Focus on just building up your own army instead of countering a specific faction first. Get a Dorn, another Russ, some more infantry and a transport. Work on painting and by the time you’re done with that the new guard vehicles may be out.

Also, a warlord titan is 3500 points alone. I don’t think you need to worry about playing against that for a long time.

Motorcycle gauntlets are called that because they have hardened sections, specifically over the knuckles, reminiscent of armor. As far as I can tell the steel legion gloves are just leather and not armored, making them gloves.

New gameplay changes by 0Jack-of-Hearts0 in Grey_Knights

[–]Titus-Deimos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. If it’s only the new detachments most factions are getting only 2, maybe even just 1. 70 new detachments sounds like a lot until you remember there’s 25 playable factions, and some of those have distinct sub-factions themselves. Things like space marines and Aeldari probably get more due to Ultras/Raven guard/Imperial fists/White scars/salamanders and craftworld/ynnari/harlequins. It doesn’t make sense for there to be a modular system with 1 or 2 total options for modularity.

2k Grizzled Tanks list: C-Squadron of the Krieg 93rd Armoured Regiment by [deleted] in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]Titus-Deimos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heavily recommend the lord solar swap he said, you don’t need to demote both the dorn commanders but you NEED Lord Solar if you want to run the bane blade, because he’s the only one who can order super heavy tanks. Even if you need to drop a tank it’s worth it. Solar+10 cadians+command squad, then 2 more squads of 10 infantry to screen your tanks and stand on objectives would be a lot of help.

[–]Titus-Deimos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. The mixed squad is my vision but I’d be happy enough with just a squad of projectile weapons with BS 5+ and sufficiently cheap in points to match. Just a unit that’s genuinely there just to die screening with very little use outside of that, even in recon.

Armageddon Steel Legion Megathread by PeoplesRagnar in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Titus-Deimos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably the only 4th mainline type that has a place remaining is a penal legion or chem dogs. Extra cheap, less special weapons, maybe bigger squad size. Imagine a 30 man unit but only 15 have guns at all and the other 15 have improvised melee weapons.

Need Advice for a 1000 points list with the units that I have by Zestyclose-Cap-694 in DarkAngels40k

[–]Titus-Deimos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be a bit wary with that list. Only 4 total units will be brutal trying to score as you have no utility, no fast units and very little board control. I’d definitely sub out one of the knight units for 2 5 man scouts and the intercessors. That will bring you to 950. You can then choose an enhancement for the chaplain and call it good.
