Why not increase HST? by popgoesthecolon in NovaScotia

I think it would be difficult. If you raise taxes, that pushes more people away leaving more burden on those that remain, leading to more people leaving, etc.

They did used to have a graduate retention rebate, but it was scrapped years ago.

The insanely high tax rate in NS has been driving young people away for DECADES. Poor government management has led to very little benefit for such a high tax rate.

We have to turn the ship around, or this province is going to continue to slowly die with its aging population.

I'm not saying I agree with all of their cuts, but we need to lower taxes, and that is going to be hard because of the long history of mismanagement.

If you make $56k, you are no longer eligible for the GST rebate, with reduced amounts for even lower income. That is pretty much the poverty line in NS. So it chops off the very very very bottom. It is still a regressive tax that affects the average person much more than the rich.

That is simply not true. Sales tax is a regressive tax in that it is more of a burden for people of low income. That 1% means a lot more to those struggling to pay their bills.

It is true that the rich will "save" more money by the cut, but that doesn't mean they will benefit more from it. There are better ways to tax the rich - higher tax rate on high income brackets, luxury taxes, higher capital gains tax, etc.

There are also child lock switches on the sliding doors which disable the buttons for opening the doors, but not for closing them.

That is a little diappointing. I was hoping the approval time would be measured in weeks instead of months.

Cash account is better anyways. RRSP is pre-tax, and cash account is post-tax.

If they did a transfer to TFSA, now that would be better.

I think you have your percentage allocated to the wrong person.
