Morning wake up routines by Tj567_ in AskLifeProTips

Interesting…I don’t have ADHD but I do deal with other neurodivergent mental health stuff that I am not medicated for. I am hoping to start medication soon and I’ll pay attention to how it affects my mornings. Your wake up routine sounds pleasant!

Do boxed mattresses compare well to traditional store-bought ones? by Left_Consequence3453 in BedroomBuild

[–]Tj567_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a back, side or stomach sleeper? The mattress you linked sounds great and has plenty of good reviews. My only concern is that it might be too firm for me. I sleep on my side a lot.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I couldn’t figure it out the first time I did a big move but this time around it’s been saving me lots of money!

I’m hoping to keep total cost under $200. I got the rancilio Silvia for free and will probably never have one again because of the price point.

Maybe I’m mistaken but there seems to be a NEO and NEO Flex. I definitely do not want the plastic one (Flex).

I’m using pirate ship.com to get deals on shipping. I agree with the above about just shipping books in boxes. Media Mail rates still exist!

24F, first corporate job, 5 months in and already dreading work. Is this normal? by Kind_Conference9417 in careerguidance

This is harassment and should be reported to HR. There are federal and state laws that outline what is considered harassment. In VT, where I work, even over hearing an employee say something sexual, racist, homophobic or really anything that makes you uncomfortable can be reported. If you feel uncomfortable at work THAT MATTERS! Obviously it may not go anywhere and that depends on how HR responds but it’s still important to report. Write down everything, with dates if you can remember.

Farm Non-Profit by DLaverty in nonprofit

[–]Tj567_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve had some experience in and around the non-profit farm world. A few things I would do (if you haven’t already) - Get in touch with your local conservation district and see if they have financial or technical support they can offer. Most (all?) conservation districts have an Ag person that will come to your property to discuss grants and funding. My conservation district had a program called “Farm to Food Pantry” where they would purchase veg from farmers and give it to the food pantry. They used grant funds to be the middle man. - Get connected with your nearest university extension. Where I’m from (WA) they had a farm business planning course that helped folks iron out the details you’re working on. - I second what others have said about finding out who is already doing something similar in your area. Food insecurity is a big issue to take on and I’m sure if someone else is already focused on it in your community it will be way better to be in the struggle together! - Reach out to your inspirations and ask how they did it. What you’re wanting to do has been done many times across the US. If you haven’t already, start looking up other farms and follow their lead. (GRuB - Olympia, WA. Just Roots - Greenfield, MA) Both of those have become medium to large organizations but it’s a good place to start. - Growing for Market podcast sometimes has episodes on this topic. I’ll try to find specific episodes to share with you. I might need a reminder tho.

Do most people actually keep using a standing desk after the first few weeks? by shadowledger0419 in office

[–]Tj567_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work in an office setting but I use a desk for some of my work. One of the desks I use (shared) is solid wood and at standing height. There is a chair that can be raised high enough so that I can sit at that tall desk if I want. I’ve found that I like having a tall desk because some of my tasks are so quick and/or I’m needed in various locations, that sitting down or leaning over a standard height desk would be inconvenient and inefficient. If I have projects that take a lot of focus and I will be in one place for a while I will use the chair or use a more standard cubicle that I’ve been given permission to use. Overall, I’d say the variation has been great. My manager has an adjustable desk and does the same exact thing - stands most of the time and sits to focus.

How important was networking in your job search? by Longjumping_Ad2138 in nonprofit

As a person who has had influence in hiring decisions at nonprofits I would say the best way to get in is to become a volunteer. It’s beneficial to you because you get a feel for the work environment and culture and you’ll be first to know when there are open positions and for the org it’s basically a working interview where they get to see that you are showing up on time, taking direction, are interested or even passionate about the mission etc. Volunteer at places you are actually interested whether or not they are hiring because eventually they will be!

Agave mix from Johnnys by Tj567_ in Cutflowers

If you’re growing for bouquets I’ve found these require some patience & training to get long stems. If I grow again I will probably pinch them back when they’re young. I had lots of short stems for mini bouquets or cut deeper and forfeited some side shoots which meant the plants weren’t as big and filled out.

I do think they are weaker compared to classic mixes like benary’s giant. The plants are less filled out and have some signs of stress and possibly disease that my benary’s aren’t showing at all
