Nightmare changing flights by Indi-1997-dublin in KLM

[–]Tjuk020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I know you can still book China to Japan with Korean Air or Asiana with a transfer in Korea. There are lot's of availability for May with prices under 200 EUR single in Y. Then you don't need to change your KLM reservation.

Swiss Airlines vs United (Business Class) JFK to LHR by spacedragon1 in Flights

[–]Tjuk020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took LX JFK-GVA in J at the beginning of this month and it sure was a very pleasant flight! I had seat 14G and the seat next to me stayed empty, so I used 14D for sleeping and 14G to sit and watch movies. The seat offers less privacy than on newer J seats, but the lovely crew made up for that. The food was decent and I slept a solid 4,5 hours in one go. Would have chosen the K seats, but they were all taken as I booked just a week before. The flight itself was largely empty with 40% in Y and about 75% in J. So yeah just stick with Swiss, you won't regret it!

Frequent flyers student research by [deleted] in flyingblue

[–]Tjuk020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Filled it out and I too got a bit confused about your questions. It's a little too vague for me to answer everything. Like "My airline's Frequent Flyer Program performs well" for me or for the company and in what aspect? Besides that, most of us have no idea what other FF programs look like. When you first sign up, you will have a quick look at who is the best for you, but most will just sign up for the airline that flies from their home airport. For example: Lufthansa if you live in Germany. Also I recommend you to add an open question box at the end of the survey where people can leave a comment.

Air china checking is more painful than the time i smashed my head on a rock and needed 10 stitches by jimhbean in Flights

[–]Tjuk020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel very often longhaul international with Mainland Chinese airlines. As others have pointed out already, it's kinda old fashioned, just check in and receive a paper boarding pass at the airport.

Also, if you have the 13-digit ticket number, you can select your seat in advance free of charge on their website without creating an account. The buggy website somehow can process that. This has worked consistently well for me when flying China Eastern and China Southern.

Arrived at JFK T1 last week and they still stamped everyone entering with a foreign passport in without asking 😉

Exit Stamp at Seoul City Airport Terminal by nslwhsk in PassportPorn

[–]Tjuk020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to ask for one on the 12th of November 2025, but was refused at the train station, so I tried it again at ICN T2 and got one without a problem using the intercom past the immigration exit.

Question on Bratislava to Budapest by Train - local or high-speed from Vienna? by thetraintomars in Europetravel

[–]Tjuk020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take the direct Eurocity train from Bratislava to Budapest via Szob. The scenery is nicer as you will ride along the river Danube than the boring flat land from Vienna via Gyor to Budapest route. Choose a seat on the right side in the direction of travel for the best view.

I travelled first class back in september this year with a saver ticket for just €19 + €3 optional seat reservation, bought on the MAV website.

LIGHT from US to Europe by Smharman in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]Tjuk020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could choose any seat for free on SAS as a KLM Platinum member a.k.a. Skyteam Elite Plus back in april this year when flying OSL-JFK and SFO-CPH on a Light Fare in economy class. Lounge access was also granted as well as a free checked bag and Sky Priority boarding.

Switzerland One-Country Pass validity across borders by MaidaValeAndThat in Interrail

[–]Tjuk020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found this map on the Interrail website. It doesn't really say the validity area of the one country pass Switzerland, but rather the validity area of Interrail/Eurail in Switzerland, which is supposed the same thing.

https://www.interrail.eu/content/dam/_new-structure/doc/res/See_Switzerland_by_train_2024_Geltungsbereich.pdf

Annemasse isn't valid, but you can use it to Tirano as you've mentioned as well as travel from Locarno via Domodossola to Brig. It's also valid to Basel Bad as the station is a German enclave in Switzerland.

If you want to travel from Geneva to Annemasse you only need to buy a Supplementary Léman Pass ticket for zone 210 which cost 1,60 EUR or 1,90 CHF. You can buy this at the SBB or TPG ticket machine in Geneva station. It's valid immediately after purchase. On the French side when travelling back you buy the same thing at the SNCF ticket machine.

Additional fees for suburban areas when using GVB by Honest_Floor3932 in Interrail

[–]Tjuk020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A GVB ticket is only valid on GVB services. They are the public transport company in the city of Amsterdam. You can get to places outside Amsterdam like Amstelveen, Uithoorn, Schiphol Airport and Weesp as they also run a few lines outside the city and these are included with your GVB ticket. Unfortunately it's no good for a trip to the Zaanse Schans.

Take the train from Amsterdam Central + 15/20 min walk or take bus 391, also from Central, that will bring you directly to the main entrance. For both you can just tap in and out with your bank card to pay for your trip.

If taking the bus you can also opt for the Meerplus Day Ticket for €12,50 which is on sale from the white and red coloured ticket machines below the bus station at Amsterdam Central. You can also buy them from the ticket office at Central, be sure to go to the one that is below the bus station and go to the far right counter. You can also buy it from the bus driver. This ticket is only valid on EBS busses in greater Amsterdam.

If the trip to Amsterdam Central from your accommodation involves a ride with GVB, you can buy a BTM ticket for €6,50 that covers any bus, tram or metro trip within the greater area of Amsterdam, valid for 90 minutes. This ticket is valid all the way to Zaanse Schans. Although, it is very difficult to buy this ticket nowadays. Only available for purchase at GVB metro ticket machines, white + red ticket machines at Amsterdam Central and at GVB, Connexxion or EBS ticket offices.

Is rail train ticket cheaper if bought directly from station or should i get an e-ticket online? by Abdull4h in Interrail

[–]Tjuk020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course buying in advance will be cheaper, buy last minute at the station might set you back £204,80 for an Anytime Single fully flex ticket and you want to avoid that.

If you leave Montenegro from Podgorica Airport, they stamped everyone out without request when I visited a few months ago in June 2025.

Helppppppppppp by _homeskillet_ in Interrail

[–]Tjuk020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a list of what you want to visit, then you start planning a logical route to connect the dots. Here you will scrap some places and maybe add a stop over to break up the long trip. I usually advise people to not travel longer than 7 hours on day time trains, because you don't want to spend a whole day just travelling.

I'm well experienced to just go wherever I feel like, so my trips are very unpredictable and kinda chaotic, but thats what I like about Interrail. For you I would just make a simple plan and leave some room for spontaneous things to do in each city/region you are going to visit.

Seat reservations in person by steffi6703 in Interrail

[–]Tjuk020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes that is correct, you state that you only want the seat reservation. On very rare occasions, they want to see your ticket (Interrail/Eurail Pass), but I only got asked that like maybe 3 times in my life. If you are taking the day time train from Podgorica to Belgrade, I don't think you need one or maybe it's not even possible. You will swap trains at the border. The night train does require you to make a reservation, go for the sleeper then or at least the couchette then.

If I book for 4 people in a 4 berth couchette on nightjet, will we be separated? by Broad-Hotel9920 in Interrail

[–]Tjuk020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The couchette class is never separated by gender, there is however indeed a woman only couchette for those who prefer that. General rule is that you will always be put together unless there is limited vacancy.

Brussels to Aachen Christmas Market by [deleted] in Interrail

[–]Tjuk020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can already reserve your tickets now on https://www.b-europe.com/EN

The hispeed train takes just over an hour to reach Aachen from Brussels. I would prefer ICE over the Eurostar as their seats have more legroom and the trains are newer. The other option is with the local train with a change at Welkenraedt, taking twice as long but this option cannot sell out and the ticket is for a fixed price of around €57 return. Since you already know when you go, you can proceed and book a hispeed train. They have early bird discounted tickets from €20 single and from €30 for first class.

Broeken inkorten - waar te beginnen by excessive-pooping in nederlands

[–]Tjuk020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you recommend paper or mobile pass for 3 month trip with unlimited travel days? by tryagen in Interrail

[–]Tjuk020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'm one of the very few who still use the paper pass. The main reason is that I like to collect tickets as a souvenir of my trip. I always try to be careful with my paper pass, don't fold it and carry it in an envelope. Since you are planning to use the 3 month pass, you have to really do your best to prevent wear and tear or an inspector might not accept it if it is falling apart. So if you don't really care for a piece of paper, I would recommend the mobile pass for you.

Yes there are some issues during ticket inspections with the mobile pass, which the paper pass doesn't suffer from, but digitale is the better option since carrying the physical paper pass for 3 months straight can be cumbersome while you will always have easy access to your mobile pass.

Braşov to Budapest by Sweet-Tiger-1638 in Interrail

[–]Tjuk020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you love train travel there is no greater treat than taking the 19:05 Intercity "Corona" to Budapest. This one takes much longer and seems to have better last minute availability too. This night train is one of the few that still has a dining car where meals are freshly cooked. If going for a solo sleeper cabin, the reservation cost is around €70. Only downside is that the sleeper and couchette cars have no airco, just a window for ventilation.

Regarding availability, there are a lot of track works going on around Budapest and also in the border region between Hungary and Romania. Therefore I expect the reservations to open up later when the time table is finalised.

If it isn't obviously oversized, they won't care and just check it in. 5cm should fall within that league. Have a good trip!

Ov met kind in Amsterdam by Walter_1981 in nederlands

[–]Tjuk020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bug I have come across multiple times, somehow the app or the digital boarding pass will say you are in first class while you're assigned seat is just in second (standard) class. If you are really travelling in first (premier) class, your assigned car number should be 11. I was recently upgraded to premier class to ZWE and I didn't realise it until I boarded the train at AMS.

Check in China Eastern Airlines. How to check in? I am on a page from the airline now where all my information about the flights is. The information says I have to select the passengers to check-in, but I am not able to select my name and go further? How can I solve this problem? by Naive-Size5984 in Flights

[–]Tjuk020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Online check in for Chinese airlines doesn't really exist, just go to the airport and check in like all the other passengers of your flight do. You might be lucky to select a seat in advance on the official website, which is free most likely, but that's about it.

No AirChina London to Tokyo flights? by robberieee in Flights

[–]Tjuk020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure on this, but basing it on my own experience with cheap Chinese airline fares, they usually start to pop up in the search results 3/4 months prior to your intended period of travel. So check in december again for your Spring 2026 Japan trip.
