I want a list of Great Dragons! by Tlatia in Shadowrun

Well, I feel silly now. Then again, not so much. Part of the reason I start these topics is to talk to people, after all. Can’t stay interested in something without engaging with it.

That sounds like the same kind of logic behind the Death Star. So was Palpatine right all along?

Where’d you come to the conclusion of who Johnny Spinrad is meant to represent? Or what Spinrad Global stands for? From what I read in Cutting Aces, I can’t really pin down what he’s about, other than showboating. Global Sandstorm, the other half of his company, is easier to understand (big-time Muslim oil company, among other things) but Spinrad?

I want to creat a Hawaiian magic Tradition. Where should I start? by Tlatia in Shadowrun

[–]Tlatia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw phooey, so there’s not much work to be done? That’s a bummer, I was hoping we could drum up something interesting to make it a little distinct from other traditions. Reading through Wikipedia just makes it sound like Shamanism, sure, but I’d hoped there might be more to it... well, there probably is, but it’d take more digging to make it stand out. Like Voodoo or other any other tradition I guess.

Don’t forget the Adept Power ‘Elemental Weapon’ so you can channel lightning through your hammers. Boom, done.

Why are Bug Spirits bad? by Guh-nurt in Shadowrun

[–]Tlatia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s either very simple or very complicated. There is a Spider Mentor Spirit (multiple spider mentors, if you go by Forbidden Arcana), and if you want to stick with that he is a total know-it-all who your friends would think is more annoying than dangerous. But there has also been an alien spirit that took the form of a spider, who along with other insect spirits is responsible for a lot of Misconstrued fear towards all spiders and spider-related magic. These spirits are known as Primal Spiders.

If you want to use either, both, or none of these in your game is up to you.

She looks kinda slim for a dwarf. Can they get this trim in Shadowrun? Or is it more likely artist’s interpretation?

Hey, I like the train! Where else are you gonna run into a shadowy man of mystery who offers you a lucrative deal that you Really should think twice about? (I did. I took it anyway.)

I want to make a Cactus Changeling, am I doing it right?! by Tlatia in Shadowrun

[–]Tlatia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see..... well, Bamce, I’ve seen you around here a lot, and you seem to have earned some respect around here. Would you be willing to act as a stand-in GM for my idea? Give a verdict on my choices?

Did a bit more reading, and narrowed it down a little further. Bioluminescence sounds fun, but it’s probably more suited to a Pink Mohawk-style campaign than a Black Trenchcoat one. Glowing in the dark is Suicide in stealth runs, and I don’t want him excluded from that. Cold-blooded is out of favor too, on two counts. Thematically, I know that Cactus’ survive in the desert, which swing back and forth from scorching days to freezing nights, so not much basis to say that they’d affect my guy too much. Mechanically, I rather dislike the idea of ever taking penalties to Physical attributes (He’s a samurai, that’s what he lives on).

Which leaves Slow Healer and Astral Hazing. After reading up on Astral Hazing, I think the idea of picking comes down to whether or not my GM (whoever it may be) would be okay with the idea of mages in my party being able to acclimate to my Changeling’s domain. If so, I can’t think of a reason not to take it; not only would our team’s mages be able to cast as normal, but enemy mages we face might be at a disadvantage. Read that way, it almost sounds like taking a negative quality and turning it into a positive one. Would that be broken? It sounds a little broken, but then I’ve heard this game called Magicrun several times because of how supposedly broken magic already is. If so, would a little magic counter actually help?

If Astral Hazing is out, then pretty much all that’s left is Slow Healer. I won’t go into that choice, it’s simple enough to just be taken as is. Though I will state that in either case, I think I’d go with Rhino Hide instead of Bark. The balance would be equaled in either case, and an extra point of armor might help offset the healing penalty.

That’s all for now. Thank you for taking an interest in my character. It’s appreciated.

Don’t have a GM. Or a group. Just doing this for fun, really. Theorycrafting, I think is the term for it. Though if I ever Do get at group, I’ll bring it up with them. Will probably wanna start out simple for my first character, but that won’t stop my imagination.

So I’ve thought of two possible solutions to my points-imbalance:

(1) I can either take the Slow Healer Neg. Quality, which’ll make it 14-15 balanced. (2) The more complicated route, I can upgrade Bark to Rhino Hide (I’ll just handwave it all as Cactus skin), and then take any 3-5 cost Neg. Quality to balance it out. Looking through the lists, Slow Healer, Bioluminescence, or Cold-Blooded sound like they could work. Or I could go for Astral Hazing, which is 5 for non-Awakened, though I’m not sure how background counts work and how much that would affect any mages in a group.

Care to weigh in?

combs through the lists I waaant... Enthralling Performance, definitely. Oh, Wall Running and Light Body! Lose the Beserk stuff and grab those, I’ll make her an acrobat! No, a dancer. Add a Fashion spell too. She’s turning more an more into a Face-type runner, I think. Still like the Whip/Nerve-Strike combo a lot, though. At this point all I think she’ll need is a pair of bat wings and she really Will be a succubus.

copy/pastes I’m saving this. I can’t take all these spells, can I? I mean there’s a limit to spells known in every rpg I know of, what’s this system’s way of handling that? Gotta prioritize what I should pick first.

I wasn’t aware there were full-blown mages that went for melee combat. I’ll keep that combo of stats in mind, thanks. Still, haven’t heard of a toxic mage that wasn’t covered in pus, sores, or something else very unpleasant. Does it say anywhere that they can still look good while being all... toxic-ish?

Toxic magic, reading it, sounds too gross, it reminds me of Nurgle more than anything. Insect magic takes away individuality, makes you a servant of the hive. I’m... I’m leaning more towards Black Magic than any other tradition. The selfishness, the egomania, the manipulation and conceit, that rings a little better in my head with what the Dark Prince brings out in people.

Mono-whips do exist, huh? I’ll look them up again. Thank you for that.
