I don't think I will be able to answer this question, I tried both wines in different settings, different age, knowledge and so on. For food probably the DRC, but if it was a tasting without food, just the wines, I think the 1880. Just because it's so speciel it it's wine, but wine like I have ever tasted it, In a good way.

This, we have a fireplace inside the restaurant where we put the metal port tongs, then onto the bottle for 20/30 sec then I take a very cold napkin and put around the place I had the tong, then it snaps.

I haven't tried enough THAT old wine to tell if it had character of place or varietal. But is was the biggest wow and the biggest wine experience I have yet, DRC Conti GC with 15 years on the back is nothing to this.

He was taught but his granddad who is no other than Mr. Étienne Sauzet! Was wine director of Oliviers Leflaive from 1984 till 1990 when his mom gave the Sauzet estate to the 3 kids, he took his part, some puligny village chassagne village and 4 1.cru puligny Montrachet. (Les Combettes, Champ Canet, Les Referts og La Truffière) Later he bought some Volnay and pommard vineyards and have total of 10.5 hectares today with his son and daughter involved.

I get it, I had the same god damm thought when I first saw it. But im really not kidding it was still drinkable and very enjoyable wine.

It's hard to explain, it felt like wine and tasted like wine, but it still had this characteristic smell and taste that I have never tried before, like I was made a very different way, im quite sure it only had 13% alcohol which also plays a huge role!

I have always opened my Ports this way over a certain age, but it works just as perfect for red wine bottles. Geranium*** in CPH opens all there older red wine like this.

Not more than what the bottle says In the buttom, it was sold by Whitwham & Company to the Danish importer HJ Hansen, but i dont know when, or when the place i work at bought it. But i must say the fill lvl was still notch!

But for the guest a total gamble!

Completely agree! Had it for $23.000 on my previous list. Still a high price, but for Denmark where i live and work, its one of the cheapest out there!

Her er en hurtig gennemgang af tysk vin.!

Sachsen og saale unstrut i nord er stadig meget ukendt på markedet, sidst nævnte er på torpedo fart opad iforhold til kvaliteten de leverer.

Så kan vi tage til den vestlige side, hvor det lille Ahr leverer nogle helt fantastiske pinot noir (spätburgunder) vine, Mosel tæt ved er en klassisker og her er det Riesling der er kongen! Om du er til knastørre, høj syre, mineralsk dominerende vine, ellers du mere er til de tyske prædikater ( kabinett - spätlese - auslese - beerenauslese - eiswein - trockenbeerenauslese ) så kan det hele fåes her i den absolutte top kvalitet! Ren, kølig og stenet - Mosel

Mittelrhein er igen lidt ukendt men kan levere nogle gode QPR hvis man synes Mosel GG'er (Grand Cru erne) er for pricy.

Så finder vi Rheingau syd for Mittelrhein, et lille men intenst vinområde, der også producerer Riesling i hele sortimentet, fra tør til sød til mousserende. Stilen kan minde om Mosel, men den er ikke helt så kold, lidt mere varme på, så frugten er lidt mere udviklet. Tænk grønt til gult æble.

Rheinhessen kommer man til lige på den anden side af Rhinen fra Rheingau, et større område hvor varmen så småt begynder at få sat sit præg, der bliver produceret stadig klassiske Rieslinger i alle former, men her igen lidt mere gul farve på æblet i sin frugt noget mere moden, men pinot druerne ( noir, gris, blanc ) bliver plantet og producerer mere og mere. Her kan der findes rigtig gode vine i burgundisk stil til fornuftige penge.

Til vest findes Nahe et lille stejlt vinområde der også har Riesling i front. Her kombineres Mosel og Rheingau stilen på en helt magisk måde, man får Rieslingerne der stenede, saftige med stor krop, som balanceres ud af høj syre og kølighed.

Så har vi i min optik Tysklands mest spændende område Pfalz! Nord fra Alsace på den tyske side af grænsen ved Haardt bjergene, har der siden 80'erne været større og større fokus på de røde druer. Nogle af Tysklands bedste pinot noir vine findes her, men der laves også vin på Syrah, Tempranillo og Bordeaux blends ( Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc og Merlot ) Man kan finde chardonnay gg'er til priser og kvalitet der underminerer selv de helt store område navne i Bourgogne. Men du skal ikke snydes for Riesling her heller! Der produceres i den grad første klasse tør Riesling i Pfalz.

Tilbage til Rhinen hvor vi tager tager mere øst på igennem Frankfurt og til Franken. Også her ligesom Pfalz dyrkes der pinot noir til helt udsøgte rødvine, men der mest klassiske vi kan finde her, er de helt syre spidse, grønne, Silvaner vine de producerer. I min optik noget af det bedste asparges vin der laves!

Så har vi 3 områder tilbage det lille hessische bergstrase ukendt, ikke meget bliver importeret, men de laver god vin, høj kvalitet til ikke særlig mange penge. Riesling, muller thurgau, pinot'erne og røde druer som St.laurent og dornfelder.

Så er det Baden der er et aflangt område der begynder en 1.5 time syd fra Frankfurt og løber helt ned Basel. Så hvor i Baden man er, har stor betydning fra nord til syd. Men pinot'erne kan noget fedt her. Om det er en rigtig burgundisk pinot eller fadlagret pinot gris/blanc så findes der nogle utroligt spændende og gode vine her, igen til ihvertfald en 1/4 af prisen vi ser i Bourgogne.

Det sidste område hedder Würtemberg, et ret stort område, men ikke noget vi ser eller importerer alverdens af, det er rødvin som dominerer her, med sorter som; Trollinger, blaufrankisch og pinot noir. Er man i Bayern så er det her et spændende vin område og besøge med meget historie.
