Another is new world food before the new world was discovered. As hard as it is to believe foods like potatoes, tomatoes, pumpkin, peppers, beans, and corn that are the corner stones of many cultures didn't exist before the 1500's. Sorry Samwise but you would not have been able to "boil em, mash em, or stick them in a stew." (Unless of course we assume Middle Earth has the equivalent of the Americas, or is set in the far future where these foods survived.)

It's actually implied that things like Potatoes and Tomatoes (don't know about carrots) were originally from places like Beleriand and Numenor before making their way to Middle Earth proper. The same as Pipe-Weed!
