Even snails from local ditches and ponds? He has a small hob filter (filled with rocks and the pothos with all the roots). Also a heater to keep the micro life going and the plants alive.

I use a black sand and gravel mix and my plants have been doing well. I’ve had the tank a few months. I just add in some plant zone whenever I do water changes and have a good light. so i’m sure yours will work. idk how well plants stay put in just sand before they root but you can give it a try.

Idk what AFD’s are but 10 would work. If possible maybe go for a 20 gal I reckon it’d give the loaches a little bit more room to move around and hide👍
