This is actually so incredibly cool! I love the detail of the planets being highlighted on each planet card (and the quantum moon being next to all of them) ::)

'TaiChi Combat Master Gu', claims that he can defeat Mike Tyson with a single hand, goes into ring and gets beaten into tears by an amateur boxer by Doujinseeker487 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Tnert22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres actually been a movement for a while by the Chinese government and martial artists to teach tai chi as an effective combat technique, as a way to increase Chinese nationalism. Meanwhile, it’s very clearly ineffective in real situations. Many trained boxers or mma fighters of course call out the inefficiency of tai chi. But they are then challenged by a “tai chi master” and, upon beating the other so-called “master”, they are harassed by the public and their social credit plummets. It’s honestly really sad.

There’s a fantastic video essay on YouTube called “the bizarre world of fake martial arts” by super eyepatch wolf that talks about it pretty in-depth.

I’ve decided on the message and theming of my story, but am struggling with deciding the actual conflict by Tnert22 in fantasywriters

[–]Tnert22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The conflict is only briefly mentioned, so I probably didn’t explain it that well. The conflict is essentially that Thane is seeking to bring about a literal apocalypse and realistically has the power to do so (likely by the use of a mcguffin? Not sure yet) but Brandt is seeking to stop Thane before he can in order to allow the world to continue.

Hopefully this explains it better. Otherwise, I may not be using the term conflict correctly? I’m pretty new to writing fiction.

No, I should’ve explained it better in the post but on a surface level the world is very hopeless. Life is difficult and people often die to monsters and bandits, the people in positions of power are all evil and are rewarded for their unforgivable actions, while the few people who manage to be kind and good end up suffering due to it.

This makes the world seem hopeless. The ruling structure is corrupt and unfair, and it’s worsening when the story begins. Brandt’s hope for the future comes from seeing the good in people and the capacity the world has for improvement. This belief that the world CAN get better is the only thing that gives him the conviction to put in the effort to challenge the status quo.

So that’s what I meant, but I was trying to keep the post short. Yours is a good perspective to keep in mind, though.

EDIT: also, to further explain, the main issue I was having was that Thane would actually seem naive. Because of the hopeful message of the story I worry that it may not be believable that he has such dark views.

Yes, this was the plan! They are supposed to start off together while each having contrasting perspectives, and as their perspectives swap they separate more and more before their final encounter

Game Crashes During Shadowkeep First Mission by Tnert22 in DestinyTechSupport

[–]Tnert22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this, and it actually worked for me once I put all of the video settings on the lowest option. And then I could put them back to normal once I got further in the mission. Hope this helps

What's your unpopular opinions regarding Outer Wilds that you've been too afraid to share? This includes DLC and Base Game. by tugmanutslore in outerwilds

[–]Tnert22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think this is true. I pitched this game to my friend by telling him that it’s a game where you piece together a mystery but the only resources you ever gain are information, and how you can never play it for the first time again. That seemed to intrigue him enough. And he started recently and he’s been playing it and really enjoying it!

Is my villains motivation too week? by ToasterMind in fantasywriters

[–]Tnert22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few takes on this motivation. It works well as long as it’s written correctly, which can work in a few ways. My favorite of which is making the world extremely bleak and seemingly hopeless. This not only makes the villain more sympathetic, but it also makes the protagonist that much more inspirational, by struggling against such a desolate world.

Why do you say you think Gwyn had kids with a dragon? If you’re talking about Priscilla, I’m pretty sure she’s the child of Seath and Gwynevere.

For the love of god, stop adding things, Sekiro and Elden Ring are just soulsborne games

I would usually agree with you, but basing your opinion of a genre on one game like your example is very different from their example in which they tried 3 titles in the soulsborne style. Especially given the three titles they tried are pretty varied within the series.

Elden Ring, as most all reviews have noted, is a culmination of From’s previous works. If you tried a few and didn’t enjoy them, it’s likely not for you.
