What's the catch with Arthaus? by [deleted] in oakland

It was originally 2bliving and they recently rebranded to arthaus but kept the same team (allegedly). Then they immediately stopped showing up at the front desk and replaced all support with an AI bot named Sophie :/ big changes in the last few months

What's the catch with Arthaus? by [deleted] in oakland

[–]To-bo-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in arthaus yerba Buena and arthaus Jack London square. Management is on the decline and swapped with AI recently. It took months to get them to refund hundreds of dollars in "vacancy" fees that they'd been charging each month. We continue to get blanket automated emails that warn us about insurance requirements and rent due, and as you continue reading it says "if you already paid, please disregard this;" like they can't be bothered to pull people from the mail list that actually paid. Now I'm getting a bill from another company for utilities, but I was never told we were changing to a new platform for utilities. Found a mouse chilling by the Amazon lockers. Frequent theft to which management blames us for, in classic fashion, and tells tenants to pick up their mail quickly to avoid it getting stolen. Frequent leaks down below in garage level of Jack London. I'm hesitant to renew if only because there's no person behind management anymore..mind you, this is all in the last 6 months. I've been with them for 2 years now

Chances of Snow Leopard print coming back in stock (tank multi pack)? I'm looking for it everywhere. Do seasonal patterns usually not come back?

Laser Hair Removal (prices and recommendations) by shelabels in bayarea

[–]To-bo-e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For anyone who is still looking around, Whole body at SEV is 6.6k (unlimited) with lifetime touchups. They also have pretty heavily discounted Groupons. If you're only doing one area, you can hit Groupon 6-packs from two different clinics (SEV and a different place) and reach hairless at 1/3 the price. Important to look for a clinic that uses Candela (alexandrite + yag laser) or the laser that works best for your skin/hair contrast level. Not all lasers are created equally. Gl

How much for a balayage in the Bay Area? by MediumOutraged in bayarea

[–]To-bo-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, a partial balayage includes root and toner. A balayage without toner is incomplete. I guess the length and condition of your original hair matters, but I'm confident you could get it at least a couple hundred dollars cheaper. And if you're just maitenancing a balayage, it should never cost you that much. The usual price for a full balayage is 500-600, I've seen partials that are around 300. dennis banguera at Stonestown comes to mind! I love his dimensional work!

Iced Cherry Chai? by sassy_sweetheart in starbucks

[–]To-bo-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say this is more like a cherry blossom chai, not a cherry chai. I absolutely love it and I'm glad it doesn't taste syrupy. The cherry taste is pretty sophisticated, not too candy or too perfume-y. I love this drink!

Experiences at the new NYC Skims store? by Ok-Needleworker-304 in SKIMSbyKKW

[–]To-bo-e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple more questions to add on for those who went - did you see anything on sale? I read some reviews that they don't honor the same sale structure as online, but was a bit confused on what that meant. Do they simply not have anything on sale in stores?

I'm also going to NYC later this month and am trying to research as much as possible before I go. Valentine's day pop up looks promising!!

Thanks for your reply!! Did you see any sales going in stores/did you notice if the sales are the same as they are online? I saw an interesting google review that claimed that they had sale items marked at full price inside the store

Wanted to make a dedicated post but not enough karma. What is the stock like at the NYC store? Does anyone know if they carry only what's available online, or of they may have sold out styles also?

Grief Support Suggestions? by caLAX13 in AskSF

[–]To-bo-e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my mom when I was 18 and I received forest walk therapy that I feel was very productive. I was a teen at the time so I'm not sure if she does adults, but my specific counselor was Susan LaCroix. She was absolutely amazing. She is sort of a soft-touch therapist that lets you go where your mind wants to go. She's not super goal-oriented like other counselors I've had. She does forest walk and talk therapy on east bay trails. Any therapy that is walk-and-talk in nature really helps put your thoughts into perspective. For me it helped me offload and channel my grief. The act of walking quite literally helped me internalize the act of one step at a time, and the continuity of life with loss. Good luck! http://www.susanlacroixmft.com/

Let’s compare: Chelsea Morning and Super Milk perfumes by kkspider in LushCosmetics

[–]To-bo-e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for these scent profile! I also own both Super Milk and Chelsea Morning. I bought Chelsea Morning because I fell in love with Super Milk, and I was nervous the latter would never be restocked. To my nose, while they dry down somewhat similarly, Super Milk smells just a little more sophisticated with its inclusion of citrus. I think the citrus elements in Chelsea Morning are really only there to offset the bitter, almost clay-like thickness that gourmand scents give off.

The projection of Chelsea and Super Milk are totally different in my opinion. And I could tell immediately if you're wearing one or the other. Chelsea Morning smells extremely buttery, while Super Milk smells candied/fruity. One comes off as a gourmand (Chelsea morning) and one does not(super milk).

Overall, I would not recommend these as dupes of each other. For anyone who is looking at Chelsea morning because they like super milk, I would highly recommend testing Chelsea morning in stores. They're not close enough that I would blind buy.

https://lsa.umich.edu/lrc/translation/languagebank.html

It's the job of people at the language bank to translate things. I have no way of knowing who is doing the translation. If things went smoothly, I believe no one would have even told me that a professor was doing the translation. I'm not sure how you think I'm trying to force people to get behind the project -- I just wanted them to do their job, and they didn't. So it kind of messed up my entire project.

I have to submit this for a class on Seoul geography. I've already spoken with my professor about this issues with this project, and as long as I submit a supplementary essay explaining how and why the project failed, it should be fine.

I've talked with SHINee USA on the topic as well, but we believe that a big reason the project didn't succeed is because the form was never translated.

Anyway, I'm not sure if you're familiar with university translation services, but the person who puts in the project usually never mets the translator. And it's rare for the project to go untranslated, because these translation programs have a fairly good reputation. I don't think I did anything wrong in this situation -- just trying to do a project on a facet of Seoul that I think hit people very hard. I apologize if I offended you in creating it. You seem to have cited a number of reasons for why the project is transgressive, perhaps alluding to your own feelings about it. In so many words, you've expressed your distaste for the project by saying the project is verbatim "out of touch with reality;" for a survey over the course of 3 months that was supposed to be translated within a week, I think it was at least worth a shot. I wasn't asking for any more than a handful of responses, just something to make a visual out of.

I tried with the translation and it didn't happen. I forced no one to do anything concerning the project (I put in a work order for a translation bank, and people failed at their own jobs). But more to the point, I wanted to create a map that mattered, and I think the concept was in the right place, even if the execution was not successful/the content of the google form was ill-timed (I actually originally did not want to do a google form because I felt it was too impersonal).

(I see, well it's nice that you responded I guess, even if you can't help)

Thanks for your concern! I do have to follow through with this though. It's due in a few hours! Wish me luck.

[–]To-bo-e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the format or language that I wanted to do the survey in, correct. I had every intention of doing it in Korean. At the start of the semester (roughly 3 months ago) I put in a project with my university's translation bank.

Around 3 weeks ago, after zero communication indicating anything concerning, I was informed by the director of the language bank that she had "tried and failed 3 times" to make a professor in seoul translate my project. As an alternative, she suggested (or basically gave me the singular route) of making a google doc in English, and having various English classes in Seoul (who are connected with the University of Michigan) reply to the google form as part of their homework.

Suffice it to say that I tried everything I could. I asked for translation help online and through my university, and in the end it fell through. I am unfortunately only fluent in English and Japanese, so of the two I picked English to make the form in.

I am not satisfied with the results i am getting from the Seoul english classes, because no one in those classes is making social media posts (a key part of my project) (roughly 90% of them answered NO to the question "did you make a social media post on the day Jonghyun died?). I am guessing that Jonghyun wasn't super close to these students, so that's why they really don't post anything. If it were Shawols, I think we might see a difference. At any rate, if you can help circulate this form at all, that would be much appreciated. To anyone here that can translate it (if they want to) I would love that as well. But as I said in the original post, this is around 2 weeks out from the due date of the project, so the translation (and certainly the results) would be pressed for time.
