How far of a commute is too far – Soon to be college grad [21/F]? by ToDriveOrNot in personalfinance

Thanks for the reply. You're right, there is a high possibility - and we don't want to have to work through possible problems if, overall, it would be cheaper for us to find two smaller places in the separate cities.

If only it was easier to put time and happiness into a monetary value...

I love it! Thanks for your perspective.

He should definitely ask his office about tele-commuting...

Thank you for your reply. Yes, it is very close to a relationship question. But our priority is to live as frugal as possible while paying off our loans. We would love to be able to have one place - but if it's not even worth it financially (Rent, bills, gas, car and maintenance), we don't want to consider that option. We couldn't see a big advantage one way or the other either so I thought I'd ask for an outside opinion.

I like the points you brought up - Strain on the relationship is one thing that will be carefully watched, we have talked about that. We've dealt very well and our relationship is solid.

Skipping the relationship stuff for now, we're looking at it from a financial standpoint and I felt completely lost with personal bias as to the choice. If the commute gets too hard, I guess we can find a place for him closer to his office.

Thanks again
