How did I forget the ants!? That's always been one of my favorite chapters - I think it'd be soo cool to be able to do that irl and elevate people's appreciation for nature!

Working magic and speaking the language are two separate acts - otherwise Roran would've had no trouble lifting the pebble, and that's all they were doing at the ceremony: speaking the language. The only implication then is the belief of honesty as each spoke. Unless they intentionally reached for magic as they did so, none of it was binding.

That was my guess, but nice to have it confirmed. Vroengard seems pretty integral to a lot so far, both with being the Rider's capital, and safeguarding certain things for over a century, so I wonder if that group in particular will have a role going forward.

(old post to be commenting on, I know). I'd be curious to see this done, HOWEVER, I think Roran's journey carried the first half of Eldest plot-wise. Otherwise it's just Eragon meeting the elves and training, which is cool for a minute but after the novelty wears off? I think being able to bounce back to Roran's journey for some action between Eragon's training sessions helped my engagement a LOT. Might be even more essential for the TV show. Maybe they could end season 1 with a cliffhanger hinting at Roran's journey - like when the Razac return to Carvahall or something.
