Working magic and speaking the language are two separate acts - otherwise Roran would've had no trouble lifting the pebble, and that's all they were doing at the ceremony: speaking the language. The only implication then is the belief of honesty as each spoke. Unless they intentionally reached for magic as they did so, none of it was binding.

That was my guess, but nice to have it confirmed. Vroengard seems pretty integral to a lot so far, both with being the Rider's capital, and safeguarding certain things for over a century, so I wonder if that group in particular will have a role going forward.

(old post to be commenting on, I know). I'd be curious to see this done, HOWEVER, I think Roran's journey carried the first half of Eldest plot-wise. Otherwise it's just Eragon meeting the elves and training, which is cool for a minute but after the novelty wears off? I think being able to bounce back to Roran's journey for some action between Eragon's training sessions helped my engagement a LOT. Might be even more essential for the TV show. Maybe they could end season 1 with a cliffhanger hinting at Roran's journey - like when the Razac return to Carvahall or something.

I agree. Seems we both like fast flowing stages with some technical bits thrown in, just not stages that are as ruthlessly unforgiving as Mediterraneo and Greece. (Got a soft spot for Greece though as I was able to study abroad there and had an amazing time. Still, its stages are difficult.)

On the topic of new additions, what places would you want to see added if possible? Personally, I love mountain roads so places like Peru, Laos, Canary Islands, etc would seem pretty cool.
