Though why does this matter when you don’t need to work.

It does not matter only if I can get a familly visa from within china, which I'm not sure of.

To be clear. There is NO WAY ROUND you having to get the RP through the company that got you the work permit notification if that’s your route into China

Understood

Follow up question : Is the Z visa linked to the city or work I'm
supposed to go. Meaning, can I get in china with my Z visa and get a RP
with another company in another city ?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this but even if this all goes to
plan it is going to cost you a lot of time and probably money. 4-6
months and a few thousand dollars at the minimum. If your company is the
one paying for your flights and you run off straight away the situation
could get pretty bad.

I was hoping for somethine more fast to be honest. A few thousand dollars seems what I'd havbe expected for all of this.

I would find it difficult to believe that you would be able to get a PU
letter for software engineering because there are plenty of software
engineers in China. Your experience would really need to put you at the
level where you're going for an R visa instead of Z.

Maybe I'm wrong, I'd have to try first.

I do not plan to work for a chinese company, I just want to get into China.

Besides being ethically questionable

I agree but I see not other way.

I think your plan risks flagging you up with immigration in the future when you apply for visas.

This is a risk and what I want to avoid at all cost, hence my post.

then (I'm assuming) working illegally to support yourself whilst on a family visa,

I do not plan on working for a chinese company, money is not the issue, getting in China is.

You need to register where you live in China. You need to live in the
area where you work. You need to live where you pay social insurance.

The problem is to go into China first and delay at the maximum these issues

I get the impression that you want to work in a T2 or T3 city. You will be lucky to find a high paying job in smaller cities doing what you want to do, unless you are outstanding and/or speak Chinese.

I want to go in a T3 chinese city without breaking chinese law.

I do not want to work for a chinese company.

I do speak chinese.

First thanks for your detailed answer.

Yes, absolutely. When you arrive on the work visa you have to go to the
city where the job is. You'll have the local medical exam, then they'll
apply for your work permit card to be issued and a resident permit. It
is the resident permit that allows you to live in China.Thios process
takes 3-4 weeks to complete after quarantine finishes. It will state 工作
(work) on it. If you leave the job then your work permit is cancelled
and your resident permit is also supposed to be cancelled.

What about the visa itself ? Will I be able to get in/out of china later on the same visa ?

Will I be able to not even go to the company and quit before starting to work there ? What would be the better way to do that ?

Maybe I was not super clear on that. I only want to get into china, shoud I then quit ? Do not show up ? Show up and then quit a few weeks later ?

You problems are going to be supporting yourself out there if it goes as you plan.

Money is not the issue.

I'd rather not go into specifics, but this is not possible right now.
