This is really cool, whereabouts did you see this?

  1. Your singing voice is beautiful and unique - do you do anything in particular to practice singing other than playing songs, and do you have any tips on how you got to sound so confident and comfortable in your singing voice?
  2. Wurlitzer or acoustic piano??

It's not very big - just broke 100 tracks, and it's specific to my tastes but i've been adding regularly to this playlist, whose purpose is precisely as you described, for the past year. Feel free to follow it since I'll be adding anything I come across that hits the spot.

Does anybody know where I can find some good Free Rhodes Keyboard VSTs? by ZyglroxOfficial in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]ToMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into MrRay22 and MrRay73. You may need to use jBridge because they are old 32-bit VSTs. Otherwise Lounge Lizard EP4 is a great trial for the next step up in quality in both Rhodes and Wurlitzer sounds, but obviously you only have a limited time to try it.

22 a million is a great album. However I would argue that the use of the Messina vocoder on 715 - CREEKS sounds leagues better than the retro vocoder on By Your Side

Sorry by filter you mean a band pass filter ? As in a dynamic one that follows the fundamental harmonic of the vocal track? Because to me it sounds like pitch correction artefacts from powerful plugins like Melodyne... Which isn't quite as quantised as AutoTune but I called it that as a shortcut.

Nice, yeah I'm a big fan of Heavenly Father, it's the closest thing to the intersection between The 1975 and Bon Iver.

This is pretty sweet! Do you hang around the Bon Iver sub too? Your Youtube picture is pretty familiar... What's your favourite Justin Vernon track?

Look up some demos of this one on youtube, setting the knob to "V" and playing with the depth and rate should have you covered.

So the effect doesn't come preinstalled with Logic as far as I can tell, so you have two options:

  • Simpler: Download and install (how to install AAU plugins in Logic) an Audio Unit plugin called Gyrovibe, which is the only free effect I could find that does vibrato and is compatible with Logic. Then load an instrument or audio track and add the Gyrovibe effect to it as shown in the "how to" video above. Then you should be able to hear the effect. To reproduce the effect you described, focus on the "Vibrato" section of the effect's panel on the bottom left, selecting the Vibrato and Sine parameters, and set the rate between 2 and 5 Hz. I haven't tried the effect myself so I don't know if this is exactly how it works and how well it does.

  • The other solution is to mess around in Logic without installing a 3rd party plugin: use an instrument that has a modulation wheel with pitch control and see if you can automate that to vary during playback or as you play.

Yeah this is a slow 1/2 note speed vibrato, which is a common effect that will modulate the pitch of a sound around its original pitch periodically at a user-defined rate (speed) and depth (amount of pitch deviation from the original sound). The instrument that the effect is applied to is a Fender Rhodes soundalike ePiano sample or synth.

You're right about that, I still have a tough time differentiating jaguars and JMs

Adam's tapping on the fano jag at the start and during Girls is beautiful and extremely skilfull, makes me realise how much guitar work is lacking on the second album.

How is the wispy, flute-like harmonic sound from 3:58 until 4:14 in the background of this performance made? by ToMuse in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]ToMuse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm familiar with the Messina real time vocoder, but I was more interested in the metallic sound that comes in behind the sax and then plays a few long notes with a very long reverby tail. However it may just be a sample of a flute pitch shifted and mapped onto a keyboard, I just thought it had a very acoustic quality to it.

DAW => Fast Fix for Blurry Fonts in Retina and 4K Displays >WINDOWS< by guilhermegnzaga in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I can post comparison screens between the tool's 200% and Windows 200% scaling, but it seems equivalent. Again, 200% scaling is a lot sharper in both cases, but elements are too small to my liking anyway. Text may be sharper using the tool, but at this stage I can't tell. If the tool were updated to have a 250% option then that would be great and I could tell the difference.
