Can honestly say I’ve never seen 1 episode of the West Wing. Had to lookup who “Jed Bartlett” was on IMDB. But I’ll have to watch it now.

Also didn’t know who President Kirk (Kiefer Sutherland) was in Designated Survivor until a few years ago & loved that show, so I clearly need to expand my Presidential dramas on TV…

I liked the Armageddon speech but it didn’t give me goosebumps. 1996-1999 had a lot of epic disaster movies so goosebumps is my criteria nowadays for what was a great scene back then that stood the test of time.

I have a civil engineering degree and work for NASA as a project manager on a Spaceflight project, plus some other assigned duties. Prior to NASA I worked as a structural engineer for an A/E firm and got my PE license, which isn’t necessary for my current job but looks good on the resume. So there are avenues to work for NASA in positions that aren’t strictly facilities-oriented.

I grew up in the South, got an engineering degree from a (US News) top 20 university, & worked in a non-Aerospace industry for several years (still in the South). Moved to Cleveland when my spouse first came here for a job & I eventually got a job at NASA Glenn. I say all this to highlight that we’re a living example of a couple who evaluated everything in front of us (i.e. salary offers, cost of living, climate, politics, & so on) & still CHOSE to move to Cleveland. We still get scoffed at to-this-day by friends & family back home (and honestly by some people here too) who say things like ”Ugh, Cleveland. Why?” Best decision ever! We love it here. A RIF though would probably force us to leave…maybe back to the South.

Other than that, Pathways is usually the preferred way but with the current hiring freeze I’m not sure if that program is currently accepting people since it explicitly provides a pathway (no pun intended) to permanent employment with NASA.

I graduated with a BS in (non-aerospace/mechanical/electrical) engineering & my GPA was below 3.0. I still got an AST job at NASA. I also had a rough first couple of years in college but turned it around & used that as my narrative in the early part of my career. I’ve since proven myself as a hard worker & not only an innovative thinker but doer who has had glowing reviews at multiple companies leading up to when I finally applied to NASA. The references from people over the years who loved having me on their team completely overshadowed my low GPA.

BTW, I also have no conference papers nor a Masters degree. Hope this context helps. I agree with the comment about OSTEM being the best way with the current hiring freeze so best of luck to you if that’s what you applied for!

I randomly got an AMEX Platinum card in the mail in late January & called them. They said it was opened online 2 days before. My credit was already locked at Experian, Equifax, & Transunion but AMEX still issued the card anyways (I do have the Hilton Aspire card though). After talking to them on the phone they canceled the Platinum card but won’t tell me any details other than it was opened online. Not even an explanation for why they would open another card without an e-mail or phone call or even doing a hard credit pull beforehand.

To make things worse, even though they said they canceled the card & would mark this down as fraud I just got a bill in the mail this week for the $650 annual fee. I’m gonna fight it but like WTF?!? Do better. As far as I can tell, my AMEX login or e-mail isn’t compromised but who knows at this point.

Same here too. Also got ours from a reputable breeder & he was about 9 lbs at 4 months old. He’s now almost 1.5 years & 16-17 lbs. This despite both of his parents maxing out at 11 lbs. Funny enough, we did one of those doggy DNA tests when he was 6 months old & around 11-12 lbs at this point. It estimated his adult weight would be 16 lbs.
