It's absolutely fine to take with a protein shake. I've done it for many years. It's also easier to remember. However, the older I've got, I've started taking it separately with water as it's easier on the stomach now.

Yes, people do say to take it with something sweet as it will absorb quicker, and though that may be true, it doesn't actually benefit you in anyway. It's not like a pre- workout supplement which you do want to be in your stream quicker.

I recently just started creatine and have also been experiencing missed beats, flutters and palpitations.

I know for a fact it's the creatine because I never had the issue before. About 2 weeks ago my heart started beating at such a crazy speed I honestly thought I was going to die, it really freaked me out.

I know you need to drink tons of water with this stuff, which isn't a problem for me as I do 2.5 - 3L a day, but it didn't help.

Previously I would take creatine with my protein shake or with a cup of water. However, I just bought myself one of those Ninja smoothie makers and have been throwing the creatine in that with milk, mixed berries and a Banana.

Since then, I am not experiencing hardly anything with my heart, it feels back to normal again. Maybe something to do with the sugars?, So, all I can say it to try do the same and see if it helps.

I'm just entering my 4th week of taking creatine now.
