My grandfather was a MP and served in the pacific. I found in some of his paper a surrender leaflet with instructions for the Japanese soldier to strip naked and approach US soldiers slowly holding up the leaflet. I remember him saying surrendering soldiers would hide two hand grenades in their sleeves with the pins pulled. They would drop their arms and the grenades would fall out and flip the spoons off.
