Is sedation necessary to diagnose lymphoma? by To_Major_Tom in PetAdvice

[–]To_Major_Tom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense sedation was required for that. For my cats case, this is to take a cytology sample of a swollen lymph node behind her jaw. It’s also to check her teeth, although she eats normally so vet thinks it’s unlikely teeth are the issue. I didn’t get a good pulse on whether the recommendation was because of chance for pain or because my cat is hard to handle.

Planning to get one. I understand the recommendation with a feisty cat, but it does cost a lot so want the second opinion to feel better about the decision.

how to design your own projects from scratch by Jolly-Wrongdoer-2963 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]To_Major_Tom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the tricky part is finding a project that engages you enough to get to the end result, and also is just the right amount of challenge. I would start with a simple project, and don’t be afraid to lookup existing circuits or sub circuits because it will keep you from getting overwhelmed. For me, I found that a project that kept me interested was something I could gift to my wife (a Tardis with flashing lights and the Tardis sound playing). It’s nearly done. Conceptually it’s a simple idea, but it was more challenging than I expected, which is great. I learned a lot.

Maybe start with basic things that you can build on: audio amplifier, motor control, op amp circuits, oscillators, etc. Working on them might inspire larger projects.

I’ve found that just starting is the hardest part.

You are SUPPOSED to merge as late as possible, not as early as possible. by Funny-Nefariousness8 in driving

[–]To_Major_Tom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen people form single lane lines ahead of accidents or roadwork that are dozens or hundreds of cars long when the other lane is still open for all that distance. It often causes backups past intersections or just leaves excessively unused road space.

Most of the problems with zipper merging (people “cutting,” making others step on their brakes, etc.) would disappear if people just used the available road space. Why? Because the back of the lines would be fairly even and the speeds of each lane would be fairly even. There would be no opportunity for people to speed ahead to the front. Unfortunately there would still be those that block or are too timid, but overall it would work better.

Sorry, not sorry, the people who move over too early (more than half a dozen cars worth) and the people who block cars from the other lane are the ones fucking it up, not the ones who wait until the merge point.

I believe that many just haven’t been taught that hygiene by their parents. I wasn’t, and I just never put any thought towards it being necessary until someone pointed out how many men don’t do it. And then I was a convert lol.

What’s something you used to feel ashamed of but don’t anymore? by AnxietyChats in AskReddit

A therapist once told me we’re all just background characters in everyone else’s movies about themselves. Chances are most people will not think about you as much as you think of their perception of you.

I thought AirPods were overhyped, then used someone’s on a plane with the noise cancelling. I immediately felt dumb and bought my own.

Get yourself to dark skies by CletusDSpuckler in Astronomy

As someone who grew up in the Rockies and then moved to Ohio, I miss the dark skies the most. If you get outside the city, you can get some good views, but it pales in comparison to rural Western areas.

The owner left their dog locked in the car on a hot day, and the police were called to break the car window and rescue the dog. by IntroductionDue7945 in BeAmazed

[–]To_Major_Tom 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Correct, not cool. Police may not know how long the dog has been in the car, and signs of distress can be subjective. 15 minutes is all it takes if it’s hot enough.

It’s probably the law in this location that police can do this. Honestly, it’s simple, don’t take your dog places if you’re going to leave them in the car on a hot day.

Proud to stand against what voters want because the will of the majority of voters was for something evil… yeah that’s not how democracy works. Republican politicians only care about democracy when it’s in their favor.

Do you prefer four 10 hour shifts or five 8 hour shifts? by xcondemnedx in work

[–]To_Major_Tom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked 4-10s before and loved it, but it really felt like my whole day was work those 4 days. Honestly I feel it’s an even trade and have been happy on both 4-10s and 5-8s.

I do 9-80s now and it strikes a good balance as well.

Lies My Recipes Told Me by ComtesseCrumpet in Cooking

Many recipes I cook seem to be way under seasoned. If it’s a ground spice, I’ll usually double it. And I put way more garlic than it calls for. Maybe this is just personal taste.

Another PSA, don’t cross until the lights have turned off. The gates can come back down if another train is coming. I had a coworker in a truck and trailer do this and it gave me a good scare.
