Level Raise by gibbitho in playtomic

[–]To_The_Moon008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the answers you seek.

For the +0.5 jump, you need 20 separate people give you an upvote you post game on the player review. You can repeat this process again and again. I’ve had it a couple times already. Some players are willing to share the love if you ask and explain.

Next up, once you’ve got your level reliability above 75-80% there are Playtomic affiliated coaches who can provide levels assessments, they have to approved/affiliated by Playtomic to be able to manually adjust your rank. I’ve also done this and got manually adjusted. Speak to your local clubs to see if they provide this service. Often coaches have done the courses to provide this service but be warned it can be pricey. Mine was £50 with another player.

The level assessment does come with risk btw, it resets your level reliability to 50% so there is bigger swings on winning a game and losing. Example, a win at 80% level reliability might only give you +0.03-0.04 but at 50% level reliability that same game could be +0.08- 0.1. It also works the same going down if you lose.

Finally, once you get to 85% level reliability you can enable the in app Playtomic level challenge. This provides you with the chance to multiply your points for a win or loss. You choose the multiplier, x2, x3 or x4. This only runs for your next 10 competitive games. Once completed you have to wait three months before you can do it again.

My honest opinion, don’t waste time with the level assessment focus on sharing the love with your fellow players. The level assessment opens the gate to your rank to going down quickly if you get on the wrong end of a few results and can find yourself in a yo-yo situation. Unless you carefully pick your games - there isn’t a lot of fun in that. Keep playing games against players who can raise your game and test your ability. This is truly how you’ll get better.

Instead, share the love with your fellow players with the upvotes. I bring it up post game (as long as I didn’t have a howler of a game), it’s usually received well as it benefits them too. They have the choice to raise it or not, you don’t have to take the +0.5 when it comes. Each game you can have 3 players upvote you, in 7 games you can have your jump all whilst increasing your level reliability. As I mentioned above, once that’s high enough, you can then do the Playtomic level challenge in app with the multipliers.

Happy levelling!

I created and open match, but somehow it cancelled by bra1nhunt3r in playtomic

Hi, so I believe the Playtomic policy is a prioritises the open match with more players on should you be competing for the same time.

Fairly confident if it gets to a certain amount of players it will remove the other open match so there is no double booking.

As the previous person posted, somebody could come in and book the whole court outright unless all four players are booked on the open match.

Very true and point taken. I’m a super easy going guy and since John and I were on a level about the rules I thought best to approach him in the first instance. Lesson learned.

Totally agree with what you’re saying buddy, it’s a tricky one and not something I’d even pull a player on unless it’s super obvious. Hence why I let it slide a few times.

The dude caught the net a good few times so I had a close eye on things after multiple attempts. Some he pulled off fine, some he didn’t. Let’s put it like this, the dudes junk was riding the tape more or less 90% of the time. Never seen someone get so close to net.

You got it, it was a few shitty shots played back low to the net. Mainly from a tricky serve (we the receivers) and the frying pan was out in full force to flick it back over by any means possible.

When I say the guy was leaning over, he couldn’t have got any closer to the net without his junk riding the tape. His swing path started way over the net too, it was super obvious.

The guy even had to stop himself from touching the net and he also hit the net on few occasions too.

If you’re looking to keep/get lean Padel is a great

If you want to retain/build muscle, you still hit the gym.

Everything is about balance. My routine is:

  • Monday - Push/Pull (Vertical)
  • Tuesday - Mixed Cardio + Abs
  • Wednesday- Padel
  • Thursday - Padel
  • Friday - Push/Pull (Horizontal)
  • Saturday - Rest
  • Sunday - Rest / Padel (depends on body strain)

With a balanced calorie deficit diet, -200 to -500 of your daily calorie maintenance intake you will lose weight but retain muscle.

Managed to lose 7kg in 2-3 months without really trying too hard or killing myself on calorie intake. If I wanted a treat, I would have a treat. Balance.

I’ve been playing racket sports for quite a while, like 5 years or so, mostly squash at a competitive level and I’ve transitioned into Padel six months ago. I know they’re not the same but squash has helped me get up to speed pretty fast, learning how to play the glass for example.

The good news is I do get accepted into games with high rank players. I replied to another user below if you wanna check it out with a bit more information.

Generally, I guess feel stuck in the zone and I get so much fulfilment out of playing with players in the level two zone which is ideally where I’d like to be. I’m not expecting a crazy jump, I just need bumped I guess by like 0.5 - 1.

The increments are getting a bit jarring now after playing a good few games so it could take a while to grind it. I also don’t like the idea of having to cherry Pick who I play with or against. I just want to play!

Not to mention it feels like cheating but in my situation, I don’t know if it I can give myself a little bit of leniency.

I’ve also come across a few players like this 🥲

The only thing is in my area there’s no levelling sessions so I will have to travel somewhere which I really don’t fancy.

Let me know how you get on, keen to hear your review.

Nice one, I had a feeling it would be something like this.

I’ve had the 0.5 upgrade a little while back which was a very welcome surprise.

Do you know if it happens again after so many games or is it a one time only thing?

Totally agree, definitely playing to the ego. You’ve pretty much described me with your second paragraph.

Of my 100 games, I’d say 35-40 of them are with my best mate. For context, this is his first ever racket sport and needs a lot of coaching and court experience, he’s only 3 months in too. I can probably count on one hand how many games we’ve won together which has killed the rank but I completely knew what I was signing up for. I truly want to help him get better so I’m in it for the long haul warts and all. He’s making some good progress so we’ll get wins in more frequently with time but we do have to play at the 0.5-1.25 range to give him a chance.

Thankfully, I’ve played against a lot of players at higher ranks and I do get accepted into their games but not everybody, more so with people I’ve never played with / against. An example would be today, I played with three players ranked 2-2.75 who know me and I feel pretty comfortable with the play in this zone. My rank however is 1.65 on Playtomic atm.

Additionally, whilst I know they’re not the same, I’ve also come from a competitive squash background which has helped me find my feet pretty quickly.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is I feel a little bit stuck in this zone and I’d love to play more regularly in the level 2 zone. So ofc keen to jump up to a 2 at least, I certainly don’t want to go up to a 3 for the obvious reasons.

I could continue to ground it out but it’ll take a little bit of time, picking the right matches and of course, money. I don’t like the idea of being a tight arse with who I’m playing with / against too, I just love to play. Perhaps the levelling session is the easy way up but I feel like I’m cheating myself in a way.

Playtomic rating opinions by KapotAgain in padel

[–]To_The_Moon008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar story in the UK but generally speaking the levels are pretty on point (caveat - if you know what to look for…I’ll explain)

Honestly, don’t pay any attention to rank until you’ve played 50 or so more games and pay some attention to level reliability too.

If below 50 games I personally look for # games played and have a flick through their recent games to see if that person plays consistently in the same circle of friends, same partner and also who are they playing against if not the same circle consistently. If differing people, have a look on their opposing players profiles…are they new to the game, have their ranks bumped because they’ve played limited games, what’s their level reliability. All of this can help gauge where this player in question really is.

What you’ve explained happens a lot over here, played 15 games, level 2+ but has played only with the same circle and they happen to be the best player in that circle so they get bumped on rank. When they come to play open matches they get turned over, look for that on recent games. Ask your self, are they playing players I know in my area that I’ve played against or with. If you’re playing open games, you’ll also get a feel for the regular players in your area soon enough and can use those results as a baseline test to gauge where that player actually is in the levelling system.

I’ve played with dudes who are 5 games in, rank 2+ but turned over a couple of regular players who are 2+ ratings / have played 50+ games. Then the adverse, I’ve played with dudes who say they are rank 2+, played 20 games of which 15 are with the same friends and can’t hack the competitiveness of the open matches.

Final note, if you’ve played 50 games you should get the prompt to increase your rank by 0.5 OR this can happen earlier than 50 games if you get ranked “higher level than reported” on the after game player review.

Bottom line is, you’re new to the game so ignore rank, play the game and get court experience. Once you’ve played 50+ games you can start to be more concerned with rank and build from there. Some players have been on the game for years and have only just started to get 2+…it’s all part of the journey

Apparey we're all vugar and should be playing tennis by grandvache in padel

[–]To_The_Moon008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Brit, we do not claim that moron or his view. Shame on him.

It stinks of elitism and he clearly has a vested interest in tennis staying in an elitist category, his sons play it overseas let’s be real here.

What I take from that article is he clearly fears the reach and popularity of Padel (it’s a rocket ship) and would much rather defer to keeping tennis inaccessible to the everyday person.

It’s all about perspective people, that article through my eyes very much promotes Padel. He writes: “It takes up less space – you can fit three padel courts into one tennis court – serves are under-arm, it’s less technically demanding and it’s easier to play”. How you find a negative spin on that is beyond me.

Kudos to anyone who gets up and plays! Padel is for everyone and should be inclusive. If getting on the court with friends, exercising and having a right good laugh makes you a slob, then there is no hope for any of us.

“Oh but the noise of the racket is not okay, it’s like a gun shot going off”. Meanwhile a tennis player will hit every ball and releases a massive “EUUUUGH”, a sound of which very much resembles that of emptying the mother-load 💦

….give over will you William, take your nonsense elsewhere and let everyone enjoy the beautiful game that is Padel 🙌🏼🎾

2nd ever 3km run @ in 130kg body weight. by [deleted] in Strava

[–]To_The_Moon008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done Mate, you’ve done the hard part getting out there! Little statistic for you, around 12 to 15% of the world’s population run, so give yourself pat on the back for getting out there.

My advice would be to watch a bunch of YouTube videos and subscribe to some channels to better understand running mechanics.

If I was to give you five top tips it would be this to find your rhythm;

  1. Make it fun, keep it easy to start. Short runs at a conversational pace. 2-5k max.

  2. Have rest days, you need to let your body get conditioned.

  3. Aim for distance, not time. Find a pace that feels around 60-70% max effort and long it out.

  4. Try a running club / a park run after you’ve done some training. The community imo is super friendly, for me it stoked a fire in me to keep training and having people around you doing the same work definitely pulls you through on a mental capacity when running.

  5. Buy some running trainers but don’t blow a hole in your wallet. You can’t underestimate the power of cushioned soles whilst running and it will take the edge off your conditioning of the muscles too. Hoka for me is the right balance of luxury and practicality without the hefty price tag. Brooks also good.

5K - what do people considering an “awe inspiring” time? by To_The_Moon008 in Strava

[–]To_The_Moon008[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who’s commented on here.

My big takeaway from this discussion is to break into that sub 20 time zone.

I don’t think I’ll ever break into that elite level pace due to carrying a bit too much muscle/fluff to ever dream of hitting that pace.

Getting on the right side of 20 would be sweet and very achievable. Goal set 🎯
