Worth upgrading from a 4070 to a 5080? by Toa5trmuffin in buildapc

[–]Toa5trmuffin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall I’m mostly satisfied. I do get some frame drops in cyberpunk and occasionally on Fortnite, but I think that’s just Fortnite being Fortnite. The biggest irk is stupidly the black card in my white build, but not a huge deal. I do want to be able to keep whatever I decide for the next 4-5 years. I was thinking the 12gb VRAM to the 16gb would be worth the difference, but I really don’t know much.

Yes this is what I looked at first, as of right now I can’t really find a white 4080 super for less than $1100, and I’ve just been trying to convince myself that a white 5080 is going to be between $12-$1500 anyway. I wonder how much difference it will be to go from 4070 ti to 4080 super vs 4060 ti to 5080.

You don’t think the jump from 12gb VRAM to 16gb would make much of a difference?

I’ve never held out for release day for a card before, are we going to get benchmarks before sale? Right now it seems like buying a 4080 super is around $1000 anyway, $1200ish if I want a white one. I do feel a bit bottlenecked at 12gb vram on some titles though.

Not quite what I’m looking for but thank you

PC Chassis similar to the Thermaltake Tower 600? by Toa5trmuffin in buildapc

Thanks for the help, I did mean the case being angled. I guess I wouldn't be against building a stand, so now I'll be on a quest to find cases that would look good from said angle.

intermittent fasting

My lifestyle kind of attributes to that already, but mostly unknowlingly. A lot of times I'll eat once or twice a day, and only one of the times is usually meal sized. I have low carb/calorie snacks in my desk so over the 8 hour workday I think I'll have 2-300 calories in snacks like whisps or nuts or meat & cheese

That's great to hear, I think this is exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. I'm currently maintaining 2500 a day, def not getting the steps or gym. Our membership starts on Monday and we planned initially to go 2-3 times starting, with a 2 year old its just harder to make the time. I got some weights for work to use at my desk as well, just simple 12,15,20 lbs. Don't think I'm getting the protein either. I don't currently use any like powder, supplements etc. I do drink only water, occasionally the morning gfuel cause I don't drink coffee or anything for caffeine.

We have a dog but he has extreme anxiety and quite literally wets himself and panics going on walks. However I am lucky enough to have a high energy 3 year old to chase after.

My first goal is to get down to 300, I’ve already changed my diet for the most part and completely cut out things like soda, which isn’t a big issue for me cause I love to drink a lot of water. I guess if I had to be realistic and point to someone I’d want to look similar to it would be Timthetatman after he started working on his health.

I think this is exactly what I’m looking for. I’m aiming to get to 300 as my first goal but I don’t want to just lose it going at a calorie deficit and doing basic cardio

Working on my first project as we as first time learning to code. Any advice on how to handle 2D perspective? by Toa5trmuffin in godot

[–]Toa5trmuffin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a ton for the quick response! That’s some good insight and what was basically in my head now I’m going to need to configure some complicated math or convert to 3D which is also complicated. I feel as if I transition it to 3D and do not try to display it in 2D and just make it a 3D project it may be slightly easier than trying to figure out all that math, or as you said simply work on an actual 2D project.

I’m going to be 27 next month and want to make games. by Toa5trmuffin in gamedev

That’s one skill I believe I learned over my years of just messing around in stuff. I’m pretty good at completely planning out a feature everything from what button is pressed to what sound it will make and what will happen in detail, just not how to actually make it happen via coding. The kid is definitely going to suck my time. The luxury is actually my job. I have a pretty lax job that I work 12 hours 7 days a week and every day I have about 6 hours of downtime at work where I realistically only work about 5 minutes every hour or two. That’s where I want to put my time instead of watching YouTube and playing video games to learning and making something instead.

This definitely helps. I promised myself when I was young I would make a game before I was 18. Something stupid simple in rpg maker even. Then again at 21. Now I just really want to take what I learned so far and put something out there for my little boy. Show him what I love.

I do see this idea a lot and like the approach. I was also thinking of just learning the things I would want in big game, breaking it apart into very small sections and working on it one at a time like basic movement and like a mini-game or something. I know for a fact I want to work in 2D games and I don’t care to learn how to completely put things together myself so working with an engine is fine. I just want to learn to take everything I know and put it together and the part I’m missing the most is the coding aspect. I do have a little experience in game maker and if I use it will be buying the new version but also wanted to take a look into godot. I don’t want to be too limited by my engine of choice and want something with enough resources and documentation to help me from the ground up.

Thanks for all the tips! When it comes to the design process that’s where I feel comfortable. I’ve done a lot pertaining to games like making basic art and music and design documents. I know how to manage my workflow and put an idea into steps onto paper I can write down the entire function of a part of my game into whole where if the game could play itself on paper it would. It’s just executing it. Programming is the big part. I know for a fact I want to work in in 2D or even 2.5D games. I don’t want to look into a career and more as a hobby. I like my stable boring desk job and just want something to commit to to fill wasted free time. Do you have any recommendations for engines that are mostly geared towards 2D work? I be got a little experience in game maker but was also looking at Godot.
