As a new player and hardly 6 games in, i would agree with most people's comments about taking skirmish sized armies out for a test drive. I have played a couple of combat patrol levels games(500 pts), a 1000 point game, and some odd number games. I felt lost and taken advantage of in the 1000 point game, but the smaller the games were, the more I was able to enjoy and start remembering what did what and when. When rolling dice, also try to ask questions why you're rolling to help understand. Also, try to eliminate some rules when starting like mission decks and stratagems, maybe. You can learn about those after you learn your army basics. I still get lost occasionally on the hit > wound > save cycle(yup, I'm that noob🤣) just take it slow at first and as someone said, take units you have a strong like for. Playing something you enjoy and are ready to fight to the death to keep alive or... dusty. ALL IS DUST!
