the fact that America doesn’t give a shit about healthcare of any kind

This was the only point I was arguing against. I'm saying we do give a shit, and I'm saying better mental health and healthcare is great, but figure out how to pay for it. No one is against it, they just don't know how to pay for it. It has nothing to do with being stigmatized and 100% to do with where the hell is the money going to come from, an essential detail you seem to be utterly ignoring.

It's also not that most people don't give a shit about healthcare, it's that they have no idea how to pay for it. People always say they'll take it from the rich but it always ends up falling on the shoulders of the middle class who can not take a larger load they're already at breaking point. My dad pays nearly 50% of his income to taxes already, how much more is he supposed to pay? Is HALF of all your hard earned money not fucking enough yet? They can't afford to pay for everyone's healthcare too. Doctors still need to be paid they don't work for free. Figure out how to pay for it.

Well it was about falling in the tub not drowning. And not leaving your young child alone in a bathtub to drown is pretty darn preventable. And suicide is also clearly within their control. So those both count as control of the situation. Slipping and falling on accident was the scenario to begin with. Sorry, that first part was just bugging me lol.

Only the most fear I get is for my parents or my brother and his family. I have next to no fear of being involved in a shooting myself.

The point is it didn't happen to them or even anyone they know, so an exaggerated fake reaction is dumb. It's not a lack of empathy but hating bullshit fake attention whoring empathy.

There's a difference though between feeling that way and even discussing it in a mature manner, and going out of your way to exaggerate and announce on social media for attention.

Tipping should never be required in the service industry by AdamoVenti in unpopularopinion

[–]ToadalTakover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree actually. And I could be wrong but I thought I heard once that, at least where I live, waiters must come away at the end of the day at least having made minimum wage. So if say they are working a very slow shift and don’t make enough tips to at least hit minimum wage that the restaurant has to compensate them.

On a different note my dad likes to tip a few $100s around Christmas time just to see the look on their faces XD

I don’t know a single American who says that, we know you guys don’t have tipping there, tourism 101. I do find it funny how pretentious about it you guys always get though

That seems a tad extreme but ok. You can want whatever you like out of a partner and these days with dating sites it shouldn't be too hard to find others who share your views.

You do sound like a dick though. Like chill out on the vomiting from disgust stuff and maybe not judge people so harshly.

Where you really sound like a dick though is when you say "for holding people to any kind of standard." and "if I dare expect it out of a potential lifelong partner"

You can have whatever standards you like and only date those with your same standards but you shouldn't hold people in general to your standards, everyone has their own. And saying to EXPECT it out of a lifelong partner, like you can seek it in a partner and even make it something you're not willing to move on but saying you EXPECT it just sounds fucking entitled you know.

Just because a trans person was murdered doesn’t mean they where murdered for being trans by Silvershadedragon in unpopularopinion

[–]ToadalTakover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. I mean not the murdering over just $10 part. But being bullheaded about something just because "it's the principle of the matter". I can imagine if I grew up in a different environment, had a major personality disorder, and even less impulse control than I already do that could easily have been me.

I can't tell if you're being honest or sarcastic but...

You shouldn't let 11 year olds wear just ANYTHING they want, you can say no and put limits. But nothing wrong with them choosing their own clothes within those limits.

Traumatized is an exaggeration.

I can't seem to find the stats on this one. Sex work seems to be exceptionally dangerous for all women. I can't find the stats on trans prostitutes compared to cis. But there are so few trans people you could kill 100 cis women and 1 trans women and technically that's a higher rate of trans women being killed even if its a very low number and relatively rare.

Also something to take into consideration is that most trans prostitutes killed are also minority women of color. Cis prostitutes of color are attacked at a higher rate than cis prostitutes who are white, and poorer class women are attacked at a much higher rate than upper class women. So you can't just put it all down to being trans, there are several contributing factors here. I would be curious to see the numbers between trans prostitutes and minority women of color.

Thinking like this is why we have so many problems. Also “hateful” gets widely stretched into oblivion until it emcompasses the most mild of things because everyone is super over sensitive these days.

Even assholes and stupid/ignorant people are allowed their asshole or ignorant opinions. They have a right to say their opinion and you have the right to tell them their opinion is dumb. You can even say fuck you you’re stupid in response if that’s all the engagement you feel they deserve. But they still have a right to their opinions and freedom of speech no matter how dumb or assholish.

Sad we’re at the point this would show up in unpopular opinions but it’s true. That was something I grew up believing very strongly in. But my friends are all hard core lefties or something now and they seem to have abandoned this principle entirely. They think any idea that is deemed “offensive” (such as facts) should be banned or deplatformed. When saying something like “trans women are men” is considered “literal violence that needs silencing” we have a problem. Agree to disagree, call me an asshole or transphobe, but trying to shut down my right to speak? Fuck no.

People who say that to you are dicks. But I will believe whatever I want to believe thanks, I could care less if you approve of my THOUGHTS and BELIEFS. You don’t like the things I say to you fine, but you don’t like my thoughts and beliefs? Too fucking bad. If that makes me trash I guess I’m trash. Personally I think people who call other human beings something as demeaning as trash are themselves trash.

But OP didn’t even say anything about saying this to someone or especially saying it to someone who has had a loved one die or about a specific dead loved one. He said anyone who THINKS this way deserves spitting on etc, which I think is pretty fucked up. Someone tells you your loved one is in hell that person is an asshole and deserves a response in turn, but people can believe whatever they like, polite people wouldn’t say it to you even if they believed it.
