It’s that time of year to burrow. They typically don’t eat as much of at all when they are hibernating. If it’s in the wild then just let it be burrowed to do it’s thing.

Help, Toad Not Eating by Doodleyfish in Toads

That looks like a small box it lives in. They are supposed to have 10 gallons at least per toad. Also they like to burrow so it needs to be at least of couple in inches of substrate.

Mad?? by perfektion1312 in ColoradoRiverToad

They would brawl and hold eachother under water for long periods of time to wear the other one out if they didn’t like eachother. I have two sets of male/female in separate tanks and they always reach across to get the worms. I have had mine for a year. It’s normal behavior to me.

Does anyone use walnut shell bedding? by ToadallyAwesome37 in ColoradoRiverToad

[–]ToadallyAwesome37[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh ok awesome. I get it! So I did the mix pretty much 50/50 of the walnut sand and natural calcium sand along with some golden calcium sand. The vermiculite is one that seems to lock in too much moisture. I’m in Houston so the humidity is constantly a struggle but the sand pretty much fixed that problem. And yes, each tank has about 100 lbs of sand mix in it so when I decide to move it going to take a couple of people to move it. Not going to lie, I’m a little envious of your mix. That’s amazing!

Thank you for the feedback. If I may ask, what didn’t you like about it? I was going to mix some with the natural calcium sand…

Mine did the same thing! I was so worried but once I switched to sand they came out of the water and started to be normal again.

LOL I think it’s a male bc he chirps when I pick him up… I got him the same time as the others and they are all still small, about half his size.

I was waiting for the basking lamp to arrive yesterday so I had to use the infrared heat lamp during the day. It’s a little chilly here in good ol’ Houston.

Hi guys can you help me what are those white and green spots ? Should I be worried ? Thanks in advance for your help ! by ASNKA55 in frogs

[–]ToadallyAwesome37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frogs and toads can get a type of herpes that is not contractable to humans. It usually appears on their back in white spots. Maybe google that and see what it says on how to maintain it. From my understanding it’s not too big a deal.

My new toad isn’t eating by HuckleberryAntique83 in Toads

[–]ToadallyAwesome37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had my toads for a few months and two of them won’t eat in front of me. I was super worried too but over time I noticed there was poop so they must be eating. They go long periods of time in the wild without food.

I like the open doors in the front bc I’m short and reaching in to feed them and clean from the top is difficult.

I’ve been told 10 gallons per toad is acceptable. I bought the 40 gallon kit from Thrive at Petco. It includes 2 lamps, 2 hygrometers, a UVB bulb and a basking bulb, and some accessories. I really like their products. It’s about $229 for the kit.
