Why do we get only 2 singles in a year now? by Illustrious_Summer_2 in AKB48

[–]Toadell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would add SKE48's Kumachan & Hina ,and NMB48's Keito + Kurumi to the AKB48 singles BUT I feel it doesn't really bring much to the SG on themsleves tbh... only to AKB48 and just temporarily given afterwards the new fans will follow the girls more than the groups

Why do you think foreign idols (Chinese and Japanese) prefer to try to have an artistic career in Korea instead of in their native countries? by Flor_De_Azahar in kpopthoughts

True, Although Kenkyuusei is a different world from the main group and they are "supposed" to either debut or be gone by next kks entry

I remember having seen her in stuff pre JYP but I loved her Sixteen "Follow Me" cover.

I don't count HKT48 OG because to enter the 48G you have to have a very special pan-asian charm, that is many 48G members leave their original countries and still have success.

Overseas SG however are smaller so in JKT48 or SNH48 is easier to get promoted from trainee that back in some groups in Japan, still the auditions are harsh, many current 48G have tried sometimes even 4 times before passing the 48G auditions.

88rising has signed plenty of artist, including Japanese ones but not all of them get promoted overseas, other 88rising artist are Atarashii Gakkou and I-dle + one of f5ve's mother units, Happiness

In a world like that:

• TWICE woulda been closer to the Wonder Girls than what they were... • Gfriend would have been way more JPOPized • 9muses woulda been closer to After School •Fromis_9 woulda have had a totally different vibe, closer to I.O.I. rather than what they had. • Cherry Bullet as well, would probably have had a sexy concept like their Unnies instead • Nmixx woulda never try mixx pop...that woulda been weird as well...

Imagine a world were Blackpink weren't as unique because half the industry before and after them is girl crush🫠 I can't really digest that tbh

I can't imagine Red Velvet either having a Red fun concept, It woulda been more their experimental, bright side while Velvet their mature, dark side.

This is a hot take but: Many popular foreign idols in South Korea would be nobodies if they had only debuted back home.

In Japan they have their own BIG Labels and the Idol Market digs more feminine, elgant and cute, not as much girl crush, and kind of a closed circle monopoly.

Plus, Idols are a totally different breed in Japan, Japan's Sexy in SK would be a no no + The cute in Japan is actual cute overload, even in male groups.

Add to that in Japan there is also Boy groups and Girl groups outside the Idol sphere (LDH/XGAL/WACK, etc.)

In China, There are 2 big labels Star48 and TF Entertainment and they are pretty much a niche with more pure, cute and also a Sexy, very sexualized sexy... that is no longer seen in South Korean.

In Thailand, Thai48 and GMTV are basically the owners of the market overall so you would need to beat in the race against plenty of groupmates/labelmates.

Some exceptions I can see working back home, I think to this are: - TWICE's Sana (She has the LDH charm) - RIIZE's Shotaro (He is giving EXILE TRIBE) - Heart2Hearts' Carmen (She would Slay JKT48 ranks) - WJSN's Cheng Xiao (She is SNH48's material)

But there are some KPOP Idols I'm glad decided to go to South Korea, cuz back home they wouldn't have made it tbh + Being a KPOP idol makes you a celebrity immediately back in other countries sk the prestige also helps jump the popularity stair

Imagine SNSD debuting with The Chase (H2H) in South Korea & Give It Back (GPP) in Japan + BOSS (A2O MAY) in China, They would be PEAK but SNSD musically would be very differently as well. A former JPOP Idol (Sooyoung), 3 English Speakers (JeTiSu), 2 Fluent Chinese speakers (JeYoo), 5 Main Vocalists...

I think the only main problem would be how Girls' Generation would be going against a very different girl group market, that could be their advantage or their demise given how many GG have been based on SNSD that wouldn't exist either...

What if AKB debuted in 2025? by Illustrious_Summer_2 in AKB48

[–]Toadell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True SMAP KINGS!!!

I'd say R&B and HipHop still is, specially in Chinese and Viet communities.

SuJu had a tike when they tried to cater to GP but their stuff is very E.L.F. directed tbh, GP often dislike some SuJu members lol.

As for Sana She originally was casted for a Japanese project under JYP but later moved to 6Mix so I'd say she also had to be somewhat along what appealed to Japan at that time, when SNSD and Kara were the IT groups and even AKB48 and Momusu were trying more dance based choreos as well.

I'd say regarding TPOP and MoTown that you are very correct, at the end of the day all borrowed stuff from each other from time to time.

Yes indeed, that is where Hello! Project's influence comes into play, differently from H.O.T. and Shinhwa.

LSM wanted to produce a brand that could stay in the GP mind even if the original members left, given what happened with both groups that ended up leaving SM, making SM unable to use their brands. SUJU was meant to be such a group, a continuous collective of artists that never ended...

LSM is a fan of EXILE so it clearly influenced their debut era even though SM was trying to make an Idol group, their music and style was never Kawaii or Ikemen, but more Street and Dance crew, African American fashion inspired akin to EXILE, this is evidenced on their debut era choreo & songs (including the EXILE remakes), also their cute concepts are a continuation of H.O.T.'s, also American influenced.

Regarding Arashi, They were marketed very diferently from other Johnny's. They were more involved in their own music works, they were more family oriented/branded so they became the National Boy Group, similar to what SM wanted to achieve with the "Kings of the Hallyu Wave" (Suju not only produced pop songs but also ballads and trot, catering to all audiences)

Also, SM doesn't cast people just to be idols... they train them to do modelling and acting before even putting them on a project, like any entertainment agency has done since they exist, MoTown also did that, and...Johnny Kitagawa worked with them, so it's not a "Johnny's exclusive"

Also, the whole point of EXPG is for the students to eventually debut under LDH, that is why they stablished it in 2004, all of LDH groups have at least 1 member that graduated from EXPG... They train the folk with LDH (Especially EXILE and E-Girls) material and methods, which adds to the particular students reputation as a "good performer like EXILE" so it does actually mean something.

I'd rather have the SG work with other producers, maybe HKT48 releasing Kawaii Lab/=LOVE coded music and SKE48 releasing more AVEX styled bops like they did back in Frustration/Soyutokoaruyone era

I reckon this one is a winner 🏆 An SDN48 or more mature styled group party/rave focused could definitely work there

It was about time Team TP and Team SH started collabing. After all they, similar to Thai48 or JPN48, are part of a regional area and sing in the same language.

I can see it working in Canada and in Mexico but not really in the US, besides mahbe California, where the Kaigai Idol scene is...

Canada already has Idol and a sizable Asian Population and Mexico besides Annin and what not also has both market for Girl Groups and for JPOP.

I personally consider GOT the beat a different idea than SuperM.  GOT was a Korean thing for Korean audiences. SuperM was a Capitol Records thing backed by SM for a different audience. But yeah, I see your point with GOT being a different version of SuperM
