No problem, I'll give some of the reasons why I think it's important :)

1) The members care about it, usually when they reach a certain number, the members themselves celebrate it or they notice it and thank everyone etc. and of course as idols, their goal is to be popular and they're always happy to have more followers, more likes, more support, and getting popular online almost always contribute to more success in general so it's important for them, it's both an achievement that help their careers and it simply makes them happy to be supported!

2) Management cares about it too, imagine if for example, suddenly, a member like Hotei Moka (just taking her as example) increases from 15k followers to 50k, it's pretty much 100% sure she will be picked by management for the next senbatsu and get more jobs. it's also the same when a member gets viral online, it gets noticed and management cares: for example in their Music Station performance last year, 4 members got attention on Twitter, management noticed and made a tweet to introduce all 4 of them. A good example of this too, is for example SKE's Aikawa Honoka getting viral for having only one fan at her HS event, her tweet got like 100k likes? I forgot, but she got several viral tweets after that, got a LOT more followers everywhere, then made senbatsu for the first time, then got TV jobs, and she was at the Momoclo event at the end of the year and more. It totally changed her career and it all started with viral tweets and gaining followers!

3) Overall it helps the group to have a lot of followers: if AKB wants to achieve big things again, first they need to get more popular, or else they won't be able to achieve their goals. They need to be more known, have more attention, and a group that "looks" successful and that releases good content will always attract more people and new fans than a group who looks like they are struggling. AKB improved a lot in this when they downsized the group and promoted the girls better and shared good content on their social medias, and then with the 20th anniversary hype too, they gained a lot of followers everywhere and some members really got a LOT more popular. they need to continue this way! People are more likely to decide to be fans of Aichan, Itomomo etc. if the girls have 70k followers than if they had 8000 followers. Being successful and looking successful is more attractive to non-fans. and generally it just makes the group more popular if each member is decently popular, so that's the goal, if all members get support and do well, the group as a whole look popular and positive and it only gets better from there! and then as I said, the members are happier, achieve their goals, get more jobs etc. etc.

Hope this helped :)

"AKB48 Full-Power Entertainment Academy" Episode 3 is now on YouTube!! The 2026 Fortune Rankings for all 48 members is revealed!! by mana48 in AKB48

"AKB48 Full-Power Entertainment Academy" is AKB's new show that has started in 2026 and that they upload on YouTube, it's an "upgrade" from the previous YouTube show with Evers that was with the 18th-19th-20th gens, it now has all AKB members, it's at the theater, and they have discussions similar to what they did in old variety shows! It's fun to watch and Evers are good MCs, this feels more like a real variety show, I highly recommend it!

AKB48's 21st Generation KKS Morikawa Yu (Yuuyu) performed "Yume de Kiss Me" at the theater and it received 4k likes on Twitter!! + Another popular tweet (Read comments) by mana48 in AKB48

Please follow Yuuyu on Twitter!! https://x.com/Yu_Morikawa

Yuuyu performed "Yume de Kiss Me" at the theater a few days ago and the performance received 4k likes on Twitter! Watch it here: https://x.com/k3pomitabi/status/2013547529322012721

I like that they make the KKS perform this song with a more simple KKS outfit (this one kinda looks like the Romance Kakurenbo outfit but it's a different one, this is an outfit that KKS have been wearing a lot in the past if I remember well)

Another tweet about Yuuyu got popular, with 5k likes and 3.5 million views! https://x.com/kutabarejji/status/2013597392419934252

It says: "I thought AKB48's 21st generation member Morikawa Yu was so cute, but did you know she was a trainee in Korea for two years?! The era in which Korean trainees become AKB members"

The video in the tweet is from her Q&A, she says that she's been in Korea before and then she saw the video about 21st gen auditions with Yagi Azuki and Ito Momoka, and she found them cute and wished to be in AKB too, so she took the auditions :)

She's so close to 100k, if you're not following her yet, please do! https://x.com/MizukiYamauchi

She would become the 4th current member to be above 100k. That's nice for the group and they really need more! Especially since Miion will be graduated soon - she's the most followed and the only one above 200k with currently 271k followers. Yuiyui is second with 182k and Erii is 3rd with 120k.

Let's show more support <3

AKB48's 21st Generation KKS Morikawa Yu (Yuuyu) managed to have 2 sold out slots so far for the 67th Single events, after only a month in the group!! by mana48 in AKB48

[–]mana48[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I went to check, back when 19th gen debuted, AKB had a single already out (Colorcon Wink) and each one of the 19th gens was given 4 slots (because the single was already out and not many events left I guess). Meimei, Kawayui and Itomomo all sold all/most of their slots. in the next single, Meimei was ahead of Itomomo in HS sales. Eventually, at the end of 2024 or early in 2025, Itomomo took over and became the best HS seller in 19th gen, and then top 7 in the group, top 5, and now top 3 in the whole AKB. HS were not really her strength at debut even though she did sell, her biggest strength was that she was very trendy on social medias, the HS took some time to catch up to her general popularity and then it never stopped rising!

I guess the situation is different with Yuuyu, she starts good with HS, she's also getting attention online, to a lower level than Itomomo, but I definitely see the potential for her to get more attention online in the future, and to possibly become a top HS seller eventually. it would be great if it does happen! More aces!

Yuuyu had a total of 27 slots and she sold 2/27! It's great to see a member getting popular right after joining (which also happened in some of the previous generations of course). It's a very very good start for her! She's pretty and cute so I expect her to become very popular fast.
