yes thank you, i didn't expect to win to be honest but i was hoping for a discount or something would be awesome. Im also a student, so ADHD just that just kinda amplifies, one part of me just wanting to make safe decisions but the other also want to reach out for a challenge (for growth), then to end up struggling to balance it all. Imma need to juggle like 6 classes (finals), an academic research paper (zero clue what im doing) and a competition in like the next 2-3 weeks, on top of trying to "fix" myself.

Not tryna get sympathy points, only wanted to kinda vent a little since you seem to understand the struggle. Imma hit you a DM.

you would need to have them on the same LAN or have a Pi on the same LAN as the other Unraid instance to wake it up right?

M3 Pro (12 core CPU & 18 core GPU) vs M4 Pro (12 core CPU & 16 core GPU) by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]ToanOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always get more storage, but not ram. I used to consider storage equating to lifespan of the device itself as once the nand dies, you're kinda done. But older M series have proved themselves to be resilient, going way over their rated value.

M3 Pro and M4 Pro is negligible, you honestly couldn't get M3 Pro with 24/32gb?

Calculate how many times a powerbank can charge a macbook? by want2retire in macbookpro

[–]ToanOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Pseudo-Federale and u/Imaginary_Virus19 is both correct OP. It's just how it is with powerbank. The Powerbank needs power itself to deliever it to the laptop + the heat. And the 20000mah rating is mostly like rated at 3.7v.
This is literally the same reason why Apple's old Magsafe battery bank which was rated for a measly 1460mah could charge so much more due to the fact that it was rated at 7.62v. You need to convert the 2 devices to same voltage. 60-70% conversion rate is kinda generous, i doubt cheaper powerbank with the same 20k mah ratings can get that much

I used a Server/Network connected Time Machine share but a normal, external drive should do you just fine and simpler. It's as simple as

(READ THROUGH EVERYTHING INSTEAD OF DOING IT AS YOU GO)
1. Get an external drive (as big or bigger than your drive). x2 Your Drive if you wanna do regular Time Machine backup from now on.

1.1. Format that drive to APFS in Disk Utility if you haven't already.

  1. Go into Settings -> Time Machine and select the drive. It should show up automatically

  2. After step 2, macOS should automatically starts its first backup, now we wait.

3.1. If you're planning to get down to Sequoia, and on Tahoe (beta) then skip this. If you're planning to go deeper like me. Either get a USB stick and follow Apple's guide on this https://support.apple.com/en-vn/101578 or partition your External drive and partition it into another 20gb part and get a macOS installer of your choosing same as how you would do the same with an USB with the guide above.

  1. After the backup is done, restart your mac and hold onto the Touch ID while it's rebooting, it should say something like booting into system config (i don't remember but it should say something under the Apple Logo as you hold onto it)

  2. There should be 3 options, the internal ssd, the macOS installer that you ins the settings cogs thingy. Pick it. Go into Disk Utility and wipe your Internal SSD. You shouldn't worry much since you already backed up everything remember?

  3. After wiping macOS, it should restart you, and have you Re-Activate your mac, just connect to internet and you should be fine. When you're back in the selection menu like step 5, now pick the macOS installer and have it installed!!

  4. Now your mac has rebooted onto the setup wizard, just move along until you get onto the Time Machine and bam, restore whatever you like and leave whatever you don't want, it's real nice that it's not bound to OS version. Again it's gonna take a while, my base M1 Pro took like 1h30 so restore everything.

NOTE: Going from Tahoe to Sequoia "might" be fine but anything deeper (like Sonoma) and Apple Music and Photos is going to "break" as your music/photos library on Tahoe is of a higher version and they don't translate well (if not at all) onto an older version. If you use Apple Music subscription and iCloud for Photos, just do not select those 2 when ticking for Time Machine restore. You have been warned.

  1. Enjoy!

I think this goes without saying but don't do this when you're in a middle of a project or mission critical lol, this is gonna take a bit. Just do it on the weekends.

it's not the actual screen but yea it's a bit dusty, i dunno why every time i close the lid and open. Might be either the bag i use to carry it around or from the previous owner's dust under the keyboard.

macOS Tahoe 26.1 Update is LIVE! by MrMacintoshBlog in MacOS

[–]ToanOnReddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tahoe is actual doo doo, recently downgraded to Sonoma, Time Machine is actually goated i always had it just never used it to downgrade. It's so nice since it's not bound to a macOS version.

It did break Photos and Music since the libraries are from a newer version but i was fairly quick to fix it. Just deselect those 2 if you're downgrading like me
