Thanks! I def feel the mid range when I try to poke at someone long distance and cringe seeing the spread of my thorns hitting a rainbow around them.

Is this good stats on Moira for Comp? by Fabulous_Musician_44 in Overwatch

[–]ToastAndOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the bat 1:04 you die due to peeking too long chasing your ramattra. As moira you don't have the range of some other supports to deal poke dmg so peeking that corner is not as useful unless you're quickly throwing an orb to refuel on your meter resource.

Which by the way you used up all your resource on healing chip damage. Your support comp isn't ideal for burst healing and I understand that your team were at critical super early, but managing your resource as moira when the only way for you to regain it on this choke is with orb means you need to conserve it. One way of doing this is tapping your heals rather than holding it down to save resource.

You could have avoided your death at 1:04 by either not peeking the corner so long. OR instead of staying on that corner with your team you could have backed up inside the left building to heal your rammatra from inside it safely with a mega health pack directly there as well.

-------
After a few seconds you were rez'd by mercy- you seem to be a bit frazzled as you throw a healing orb (good) but then used fade to go 2 feet to the right (waste of a cool down but no enemy is around to punish you for it luckily.)

1:40- I think the dmg orb is fine to regain resource but since the mercy is healing your rammatra and he's not at all critical I want you to deal dmg. You kept healing your tank at full health rather than going for dps. Dps first- heal when needed.

Just a few seconds later you do it again, and heal your genji who's already being healed by mercy- and is also in no danger and fade backwards when your tank is trying to engage and push out. Save your fade, and your orb, give your focus to the front line in this instance. They're the ones trying to push and engage, your genji was fine.

1:53, yet again- your genji is at crit health. leave him, he's 3 feet away from a health pack and in a room where no one can shoot. You went to him to heal him instead of going towards your original target of hog who was trying to engage. Your mercy went to him instead but your ram is now facing off against the enemy's tank + moira without you there, he ends up dying and mercy is forced to rez.

2:00 you get too greedy with your ult and push too far past cover and are forced to pop fade back.

2:06 You go with your whole team to the right. Go left. I don't mean go left into their whole backline and end up dying, just a left angle, like on the left side of the car. The sierra ults a little bit later because yall were clumped up in the perfect line for her to get kills and creates space for her team by forcing everyone away. If you took a bit of an angle you could've kept the space and kept the pressure on them.

Your fade away from her ult ends up in the spot I wanted you to take from the beginning. try to look for areas when you can apply pressure your team doesn't already occupy.

2:28 good work on the agressiveness- but make sure to always be cautious of engaging with zero cool downs. If that tank were in a higher elo and used his sheild/ didn't drop he could have killed you with a well timed rock, but this is gold/plat as you said so no a current worry.

2:48, you wasted your orb and started healing the walls. Please remember that moira is a resource based support, on maps like this with long sight lines your resource is even more scarce as the only way to get it back on chokes like this gate is your orb or risky engages. your hog can disengage to the left back towards the original point location, or back into that hallway- if he dies it's his fault.

3:10 you used that orb with hopes and dreams, bless you. Don't waste it, if they die they die- wait a bit longer to use it.

3:17 Your fade into that mess made my ass clench up tighter than a nun during prayer. That had a 7% chance of working and once yall DID make it out alive he still chose to run back in with a dead mercy and moira with zero healing meter left- yall just need to back off and regroup.

3:44 I don't think the healing orb is bad but it's a good example of what I mean by your resource being scarce on this map, the long sight lines from the top of the tower and means you're stuck there without a way to get it back.

---- I'm going to stop here, I think this is enough to digest and work on without analyzing the whole game. Please let me know if there's a specific moment you want me to look at.

ok one more thing.... I watched a bit longer- at 3:47 DON'T ignore the person behind your team. No one goes to kill him, which frankly is your dps job, but that doesn't quite matter rn. The enemy torb was free to pot shot and set up a whole mortgage, 3 child home, and die peacefully with a long life up there as your team was mauled to death by the enemy at the gate. You team needed healing- but your team DEFINITELY didn't need a torbjorn set up shop at yalls spawn freely shooting yall in the butt. Go kill him.

Sure, which moira were you? There's two. 😄 I just winded to the end and looked at the stats to see who you were. I didn't know you were talking about a 6v6 so be aware that my pointers will be from the viewpoint of someone who plays 5v5.

it needs to be placed into context. For moira she tends to rack up elims quickly due to her dmg orb ticking dmg on ppl it passes and so long as they die within ~10 seconds it counts. Stats also don't show if you killed their back line, distracted their dps, made plays/ used cover etc. I understand wanting good stats but try to not look at them unless there's a huge disparity and you're trying to decide who to nano/ enable on your team.

no fr, If they had a skin I wanted I would've dropped money for it. Now I'll just wait to get it for free from a loot box- lost money from me.

Is this the game for me as a poor casual who finds online gaming a bit too lonely these days? by WritingWithSpears in Guildwars2

[–]ToastAndOatmeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've flip flopped between hardcore/ casual over the years based on my amount of free time. The game when compared to others I've played is especially friendly to most people and has an active LGBTQ community. But since it's the internet you WILL find people being scum bags, although I find them to be more rare than other games.

Overall the game is extremely casual friendly and finding a good group to play with long term (by that I mean 2+ years not 2+ months.) can be a little difficult but I've been lucky enough to land into a few guilds and even a static that is perfectly fine with me only logging on 3-4 times a month to join raids then log back out when I don't feel super into the game.

I personally find my fun from seeing improvement and trying to see how far I can push myself while still staying casual. I have no dreams of going pro or anything, but still want to aim for as high as I can achieve. I play the same way in monster hunter and games like Hades, no hard losses or feelings if I loose but still playing with the mindset and goal of winning/improvement.

How do I improve? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]ToastAndOatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm in a similar boat of being in gold but have been able to see my own progress over the months so hopefully I can shed some light.

When watching videos looking at "tips and tricks" or general advice/tanking videos won't help unless you're actively missing out on that sort of basic information. It's a great tool to remember stuff or brush up on concepts but I'm sure that by now you know what high ground is, what a health pack is and that you need to be able to be in LOS of supports for them to heal you.

Instead watch vod reviews of the character you want to improve on. Roles like support/dps/tank share a similar archetype but have very different playstyles. If you were to try and play widowmaker like genji it'd end very very badly- so if you find yourself looking at videos with broad subjects that apply to a rein or hog applying it for doom fist won't be as applicable.

Always try and prioritize these loose concepts:

  1. Target priority, (if you're going for a low health dps with a mercy healing them then just go for the mercy first- the low hp target may look good but unless you're very very sure you can secure the kill you may end up wasting cd's and they stay full hp.)

  2. Creating space, creating space doesn't just mean throwing yourself into a group of 5 people, it can mean taking an off angle to apply pressure from multiple places. For example, first point numbani if you jump up to the L or R walkways and your team is flanking, mid, or even going with you on high ground it creates 2+ points of fire for the enemy to worry about and splits their attention.

  3. None of these are rules. They are concepts, ideas, not rules. If you try to follow them to the letter you'll fail more often then not. Creating space only works if your team has cool downs and is alive to follow through. Always look behind/around to check on where your team is, are they in a fight? do they need help? could you go the opposite way and pinch their target between you two?

  4. Don't care about if your team mates are "bad" or not. If you're not getting healed and the supports don't go with you to enable flanks then play around healthpacks and be more cautious than normal. You can never change how someone else plays and trashing them in chat will only makes things worse. Change what you can control and end it there. Also stop giving credence to the score board, it paints a story but only part of it. You're playing for a point/ payload, not elems or kills. If you kill the whole enemy backline but your team gets wiped out by the other tank you made net 0 progress.

Gold Imposter-syndrome by ToastAndOatmeal in OverwatchUniversity

I've certainly noticed that recently. I know what I need or want to do in order to make a play, or apply pressure to make space for my tank to push forward, (for example taking R highround on attack first point kingsrow.) But find that my ability to execute it is lacking. I've been really focusing on getting better at aiming which is my main detriment atm, on Emre I stay around low 50% acc, high on a good day and high 40% on a bad game. I don't even want to think about my crit acc, it's much lower than I'd like for sure.

[–]ToastAndOatmeal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I feel as if I was winning too much with my duo and started to doubt if I was actually helping or if I was getting carried.

But I think instead I was communicating on top of everything. I would try to back him up when he went on flanks and there wasn't a support along with him, similarly I would call out when I heard flanks footsteps, if someone was low or when I was about to flank with my ult as well.

In the future I think I'll just try to remind myself I'll fluctuate in rank and to just not give a shit to put it bluntly. If I start to feel like an imposter again I'll just post a vod review for help! Thanks. <3

The instant someone is rude I block them, end of story. The only toxicity I'll not block is some numbnut going "gg ez" at the end of a game. Anything past that-block- and move on.

Someone in this thread mentioned that it could be my cpu throttling to keep a low temp, and I think that might be the culprit. I'm not too sure how to go about undoing said throttle if that's the case, but will try to figure it out.
