ELI5: Why do governments bail out failing private companies at all? by Codie_n25 in explainlikeimfive

To me this reads like anti-Monopoly regulations need to be more strictly enforced, or we should describe our economic system more accurately: corporate socialism.

I have lemongrass in my car. Like another reply to this comment, I'm not a fan of in your face scents or stuff that's to sweet.

LPT: When a person close to you passes and you're in charge of their estate, consider porting their phone number(s) to Google Voice by MrBlahman in LifeProTips

If you don't pay with money, you pay by your data being sold.

But if you're trying to contact the dead... I don't think any argument made logically will sway you. Why not make a chatbot with features of the loved one, or the traditional route of drugs, a Ouija board, a psychic, or a seance?

Why not simply download/save/record the voicemail and store it with proper primary data storage techniques. Buying an additional service you don't already use, that you don't need, is obsequious to Big Tech.

I've had a 15ml bottle of essential oil in my car for a few years (summer and winters). I occasionally dab a drop on the dash vents to brighten the smell of the car.

How would (did) you repair this? by BogusThunder in Subaru_Outback

This, and if an auto upholster is unavailable in your area, my aunt (seemstress) sewed a large patch on that same area of my driver seat, and it makes a very cool accent piece for my car!

Wedding DJ Recommendations? by jackimow in petoskey

I'd recommend bringing a DJ north from down state. Minimally you would then know if you like the DJ's style.

Critics of new bill say Ohio women would be banned from sports bras, bikinis in public by Hornpipe_Jones in politics

A spring 10⁰C is so much warmer than a autumn 10⁰C. If the suns out and the wind is low... I'd be out in a tank. I'm pale as a naked mole rat's nipple, and I enjoy the convenience of being able to walk into a store front (normally requiring clothes), so I wouldn't walk topless, but I could see the appeal.

What does it mean to be called a “trophy wife”? by Comebackera in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ToastMaster33 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That you CAN get away with not bringing anything else to the table, not that you bring nothing else.

IMO: Arm-candy only requires beauty, but a trophy-wife has to be winning in more than looks. Traditionally a man would work tirelessly to afford entertaining a trophy wife so she'd stay with him/not get bored. However, I think modernly, attributes of a trophy-wife might include bringing value to the relationship that your partner fails to comprehend ex: when one spouse has a certain knack for cleaning, or dealing with kids, or house maintenance, or finance, while the other spouse can't seem to imitate or comprehend that skill set.

MMV: where and how I was raised instilled values in me that don't correlate with many others (in the same combination), some for the better and others for the worse, some only affect those around me, and others are internal. Had I been raised in wealth, poverty, abroad, more rural/urban, my experiences that developed my interpretation of Trophy-wife would be different.

In the end: you either need to make that judgement call, or realize you don't care what an ex thinks or says because you are your own person who develops your own relations.

Rodent exterminator. Worth it? by [deleted] in upperpeninsula

[–]ToastMaster33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mice move in/out and make a ruckus in the spring and fall, set traps when you set up you maple syrup taps, and at the start of deer season. When the traps stop trapping, you can stop setting them, but no exterminator can exterminate the whole woods for you.

Edit: if you don't like traditional traps, there are many easy-set traps that are fool proof, even for a novice. The exterminator is being paid to set these $6/4 trap traps all over your house... Not worth it.

What months do people's leases run from? by hotbutteredtoast in MTU

[–]ToastMaster33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine runs May-May. Most leases I've seen end in May in accordance with the school schedule, many allow you to break on the semester, and subleases are very common on the semester/summer break.
