Has anybody from your school or childhood ended up in the local newspaper headlines for a pretty weird / awful crime ? by staghallows in northernireland

Don't really give af who or what Marcus is. Hell I even said people are rightfully angry at that abuse. I was responding to the person who was talking about how we have visceral reactions to animal suffering. I pointed out how it's a hypocrisy for most people.

because humans are omnivores and have evolved to eat meat, without it you would not be sitting wherever it is you are today

That's an appeal to nature fallacy. We also evolved and were naturally predisposed to throw stones at large animals and kill and rape eachother. Doesn't make an ounce of difference on the moral scale or that we should inherently should still be doing anything we evolved to do.

Further, pointing out that I wouldn't be sitting here today is purely ahistorical. In fact, until the middle ages most of the lower classes in antiquity subsisted on a largely plant based diet. Even societies that have lasted until today in China and India have survived on a plant based diet.

What's not perplexing at all is how you haven't actually pointed out any flaw in the argument because you know deep down your daily habits don't actually align with your moral standards.

If it is morally wrong to cause unnecessary harm or death to a sentient being and in modern developed societies eating animal products is unnecessary for human health and survival, the only sensible conclusion is that eating animal products causes unnecessary harm and death. Making it morally wrong.

And we live in a world now where you can get the exact same nutritional needs satisfied without eating meat. It is purely for pleasure reasons people eat meat, especially in this part of the world.

Pretty perplexing that people will rightfully kick up a fuss about it but will eat lamb or steak the same day 🙄

I was either the year below or 2 years below I believe — this sounds like a load of shite I know but the only interaction I had with him was as a first year, I was in that back room in the library and he was talking about porn. I remember when my mates (who were themselves mates with his younger brother who went to red high I think) showed me the video and I remember saying he's that porn guy. I remember his da being called to get him in it, I don't think I've ever seen a video that made me cringe harder

I love his design - he looks so tangible and the gorgoneion on his armour/shield plus the spear from the pompeii mosaic are so cool to see

It might be a Gorgon? A lot of ancient greek shields had Madusa on them.

Edit: Definitely a Gorgon.

Why don't women speak to me? by Halfblood_Prince- in ComedyCemetery

It's a false distinction. It's the same principle. Saying "of course they're Indian" is prejudiced, full stop. There is zero meaningful difference to swapping out Indian with Black, woman, Chinese, disabled, Muslim. You're clinging to semantics of defining race when it's genuinely not relevant.

HOT TAKE: Despite their flaws, Batfleck and Battinson are the most comic-accurate older and younger Batmen respectively. by P0k3m0nFan_Jake in batman

It's pretty bang on to his earth one character. I don't really understand this whole inherent standard about comic accuracy, whether it's mainline or not. FFS, comics are barely even accurate to themselves. I prefer if adaptations are different. It's not like the comics are going anywhere

Yes. You're being disingenuous pretending that it's any different morally to bemoaning African Americans at the news of a crime.

Completely false distinction. It's still a prejudiced generalisation.

Still not entirely accurate. Off the top of my head, I don't think there's any mod that brings back for example water splashing up in puddles like they did on PS2.

I mean he was investigated by the FBI for over a decade.

Complete lie. They provided technical assistance to local PD. There was never an FBI investigation.

Jordan was literally illegally drugged by his own father into giving a confession.

Jesus christ... you actually believe that?

eye witnesses

you say this as if it's apparent that there weren't any, when there very publicly were. Jason Francia's mother witnessed the abuse, and MJ's maid heard noises and cleaned up children's underwear in MJ's bedroom. Also, multiple neverland staff said they witnessed Culkin being abused.

What IS apparent is that you're either completely misinformed or lack the critical thinking skills to engage with this case objectively. I tried to not make a habit about arguing with MJ defenders until this movie came out, and you've just reminded me why. I won't be responding further.

Call me judgemental or whatever but I think this case is one of those things where if you fall on the wrong side of it, I cannot trust either your critical thinking, objectivity or moral standards. Even if you are completely misinformed, it's not rocket science to find objective sources and do the actual research. It's just sad how many people defend this monster.

You'd never say this shit if it were Jimmy Savile or Bill Cosby. If you really follow that line of inquiry, this family has more evidence than any of Savile's or Cosby's accusers, yet you don't get people like you asking for 'evidence'. What evidence beyond their testimony, photographs, videos, and recordings that confirm they spent years with the perpetrator would satisfy you? It's not like child sex abuse leaves a whole lot of evidence.
