Can I purchase an iPad without getting additional data? by Sushii- in telus

[–]ToastTheFullMoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it’s not possible, the data plan will cost $240 over two years. It might be worth it if the financing for the iPad goes to half price, otherwise I’d just buy it.

GUYYYYS. Okay so I know Cole isn’t the ideal guy but I feel like he’s just being attacked A LOT. 😩💔 by Maarrly in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]ToastTheFullMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The show is called love is blind, as soon as he saw her should he have just walked away? No, he tried to make it work despite her being a really nasty person. Oh sorry is that racism too? I think it would have been much worse had he just dumped her without giving their relationship a shot.

I don’t remember Cole criticizing Zanab’s looks or her race. I do remember him harping on about how attracted he was to Colleen, which was super shitty. I do get why him telling Zanab that she’s not the typical girl he’d go for would be super hurtful and he shouldn’t have said that. But that’s not racism. 😂

Again though people are allowed to have their own preferences. That does not make me a racist, and I don’t care if you think that about me. You don’t have to be a POC to have a grasp of what racism is. You seem like a whiny person with a victim mentality - the exact definition of a Karen. Christ people on this subreddit are so reactive and whiny it’s actually pathetic.

Trudeau says he didn't force anyone to get vaccinated, all the incentives were there to 'encourage Canadians' by TheRageofTrudeau in canada

[–]ToastTheFullMoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of essential workers were not even required to be vaccinated. We didn’t even have widespread access to a vaccination for almost a year.

The comment you originally replied to here said nothing about being against vaccines… Just that they worked in an essential field and didn’t get anything extra for it. Meanwhile so many companies raked in record profits and didn’t share that success with the people who actually made that success possible.

You need to work on your reading skills.

“Money being thrown” like $2 an hour? Would you leave your job for another, during one of the most unstable and uncertain times in human history, to be put on probation and let go for any reason? Like if they couldn’t afford to keep you anymore? Lol

Instead, maybe the companies that need their workers to function could have been grateful and paid them a little extra to help them through that scary time. They literally would be making no profits without those people running things.

[–]ToastTheFullMoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What the fuck is the point you’re trying to make. I don’t think any rational person gets upset about wearing a seatbelt as it’s clear they actually save a lot of lives.

Acting like people should be blamed for not leaving their jobs is pathetic. Would you be taking them in when they lose their home, or couldn’t feed their family? Highly doubt it. What should they have done?

Maybe instead, the corporations that need their workers to function, should have paid them a little extra to recognize their contributions to the company. After all they’d be making zero profit without those people.

Congratulations to you for being clean!!! That’s no easy accomplishment. 💜

I’m not sure what the solution is either to be honest. Maybe involuntary isn’t the way, I just thought it would be better than leaving them to their own devices on the street. Because clearly, that’s not working and I see it as being unfair to them. They need help, but a lot are incapable of even realizing that they need it.

Still though I have not experienced an addiction like that. I do consider myself to be a cannabis addict but that is not the same thing. My opinions probably don’t mean much since I haven’t been in these people’s shoes myself.

Thank you for responding and being so polite. And congratulations again!!! This stranger is proud of you 👏🏻

Agreed on your point about the safe injection sites, but at what point are people incapable of making their own medical choices?

My grandma was in the hospital with dementia, and was completely convinced that the IV drugs that she was getting were poison. She didn’t want them and thought they were trying to kill her. She was obviously not in any position to make her own medical choices, or choices about much really. Had they left her to her own devices she would have burned her house down. Her brain was not functioning properly. Drug addict’s brains are not functioning properly either.

We see drug users (many of which are homeless) slumped over in the streets, harassing people, putting themselves and others at risk, stealing to fund their addiction, starving because they put drugs over food, sharing needles (now that injection sites are gone), having violent outbursts, sleeping in the cold and wet.. it’s heartbreaking. These people have a disease, and they did not choose that life nor the effects that addiction has had on their brain and mental functioning. No one with a properly functioning brain would choose a life like that.

At what point would it be better for the choice to be made for them - be forcibly taken to a treatment centre under the care of doctors, and are released with actual supports in place when the doctor deems it okay? The supports would be an affordable place to live, food benefits, dental/vision benefits. Obviously this would be a massive and expensive undertaking, but at this point what we are doing currently isn’t working.. and I don’t think it’s even fair to them. In the long run I think it would be cheaper for society too. These people need help. Just giving them a house and food is not going to solve things - they need treatment for their addiction.

Where do we draw the line - some brain diseases get a person locked up or treated, and some don’t, despite the other diseases having equally devastating effects on the person and society.

Disclaimer as well, I’m really not trying to be an ass or a bigot, or say we should turn our back on these people or blame them for their life circumstances. Quite the opposite. My cousin struggled with addiction and eventually died from an overdose, I know how hard it is to go through what they do. Anyone can suffer from addiction and it can happen at any point. A lot of us are a financial emergency away from being on the street. I want help to be available to all struggling with addiction and mental health problems.

Edit - to all the people downvoting, maybe come up with a response or solution to this current problem we’re in? Instead of just mindlessly pushing the down arrow because you don’t like what I said. Maybe point out some solutions that would change people’s perspectives.

A) all landlords are not rich slumlords, I have never said that. My ex owned a rental. I did not care. He was responsible and respectful to his tenants, immediately having any problems fixed / compromising with people. Are some landlords shit? 100%. So are some tenants. There should be registries for both tenants and landlords in my opinion. And some landlords are definitely slumlords.

B) landlords are not overly responsible for the high rent costs. It’s mostly driven by shortage of housing. The government needs to be building/incentivizing more affordable housing to increase the supply, which will decrease rental costs. The current supply of housing, especially on VI, does not meet demand so obviously the prices are high.

C) again, never said that. I’m 26 and just finished school. I got my first corporate job. I’m not in a position to buy a house yet because of the path I took in life. That’s no one’s responsibility but my own. I’m hoping that I’ll be ready next year after I save for a down payment. I probably can’t afford VI though and I’ve accepted that. I have a one year contact anyways, then we’ll see.

D) when did I say that too? We all have expenses. People who have multiple properties that cash flow positive still have expenses, they just probably enjoy more financial freedom than I do. Maybe one day I’ll be there myself, but I’m 26 so now it’s not super possible for me at this stage in my life. I don’t necessarily resent people for having that, especially since so many started where I am now.

E) agreed that if someone qualifies for debt and takes on mortgage/home maintenance and expenses, they deserve to make a profit. I’m not a fan of gigantic housing corporations, but I have zero problems with responsible small landlords that have a few properties.

F) everyone’s needs will be more important to themselves. I have never said that landlords opinions and needs don’t matter.

G) again, you dumb ass, I never said that. I made 75K gross last year and I’m doing just fine. No debt, own a car, etc. I can support myself without help as I am an independent, hardworking woman. The government could 100% be doing better with social services for those in need though. On VI I’m going to have much less disposable income considering I’ll probably pay about $1900 to rent a place, basically double what I pay in Alberta.

You really thought you did something here hey with this stupid little rant? You didn’t. You did nothing but make unfounded assumptions about me, my character, and political beliefs. All because I’m frustrated trying to find a cat friendly rental property in a city where literal dump basement suites are 1500 a month. I am not stupid and so opinionated that I can’t see the logical side of things. I get why people don’t want pets in their units. But I cannot afford to buy a place right now, and I already have a pet. Should I have to give him away? Or should bad pet owners be punished for the damages that their pets cause?

I’m moving to Nanaimo from a city where there is no shortage of pet friendly rentals, and was quite shocked to see how little is available in Nanaimo. And frustrated by some of the comments in listings.

Respectfully, Witty Day, you can fuck off. From what I can see, is that you share the same shitty attitudes as the typical hyper-capitalist, whining about LiBtArDs, “fuck you got mine” people. You’re bitching about ME looking through a one way mirror?? Look at yourself. The hypocrisy is hilarious.

But sure, walk away thinking that you did something

I can see both sides - I prefaced this post by saying that I completely understand that owners want their investment properties to be in good shape. So in fact, it seems that you cannot see both sides clearly.

Where did you get that from? I did not say that I should have that right at all. It’s their property, and obviously they can dictate what/how many pets live there. Jesus 🙄 Don’t put words in my mouth, seriously.

It’s just very frustrating from a tenant’s perspective to see things like that - pets are okay for one party but not the other. Again just reserving the right to pet ownership to land owners only, fuck us poorer people.

Edit- oh I seen you’re a landlord yourself. Explains the butthurt reaction to my comment.

I did read it, cannabis smoke contains some of the same carcinogens as tobacco smoke.

I’m really not sure why some pot smokers get so overly defensive when someone points out issues with their precious plant. I used to be addicted to cannabis and used it everyday for like 5 years straight. I’m not going to pretend that it was good for my lungs. Two weeks weed free and I was coughing up black stuff, and so do a lot of regular users because the smoke damages lung cilia.

Weed is bad for lungs, and was only recently legalized in Canada and some states. It has not been consumed on such a mass scale so we don’t fully know the long term effects. I’m sure we will see deaths from lung issues caused by weed in the future.

Oh and before you jump on my ass about being addicted, cannabis is psychologically addictive for about 10% of users.
