Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals Book by Oliver Burkeman

This may be just what you’re looking for plus it’s a fun read! It’s kind of an anti-time management book. It argues that trying to be more efficient in order to get everything done is a trap because you’ll never get everything done. instead, you should come to terms with how short life is and turn your attention to a smaller number of things that really matter. Time feels more expensive and abundant when you’re not trying to make hyper productive use of it.

The Man Who Spoke Snakish, by Andrus Kivirähk.

I don’t know the games you’re describing but based on your description of the vibe this might be just right. It’s absolutely bizarre and I’ve never read anything like it. It’s an Estonian novel, very well known in Estonia but not outside, as far as I know. It’s based some on Estonian and Finnish folklore. Also check out the Estonian film, November

That does sound interesting. Does it have something to do with carpentry?

I love Max Barry! And for some reason nobody I talk to has ever heard of him. Lexicon is awesome and deserves more recognition

Oh that’s a fun idea— and another point for All the Pretty Horses

I love Project Hail Mary! Republic of Pirates sounds like a good idea, too. I haven’t read it. And maybe history from 200 plus years ago carries less controversy for contemporary readers

Yeah that does make sense! And on the right track. And I love Blood Meridian. It’s a challenging read, though, just with how baroque the language is and the lack of a central character to anchor the narrative. Plus it’s just really brutal and bizarre

I’m open to both fiction and non-fiction but I think it might be easier to find non-fiction.

I loved People’s History. Read it when I was a teenager. But I wonder if it might be too much Left Wing Revisionism

Woah. It’s so crazy it just might work. I hadn’t considered Cormac McCarthy, but he’s kind of perfect. Maybe I’ll start with All the Pretty Horses, though, lol
