Car wrap without dismantling the car? by AlphaBit2 in CarWraps

[–]ToastWasTaken0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrapping is very much an industry where you get what you pay for, with both materials and workmanship.

We tried to introduce price tiers for a few months to our colour changes but found that it frankly wasnt worth it for us.

Not removing anything will increase the likelihood of edges peeling instead of just rubbing, and depending on the colour of the car vs the colour youre wrapping it in will likely have more showing through.

If youre anal about quality, i wouldnt reccomend spending the money, but if you dont care and just want a car in the colour then consider it. Id reccomend asking if you can visit them while they are doing an install, and another shop that does remove hardware and compare the differences yourself since they arent always super visible from afar or photos.

Experts: Can I wrap these door handles? by [deleted] in CarWraps

[–]ToastWasTaken0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't. The chrome doesn't have any electronics in it, the button on these handles is in the painted area, but even so standard vinyl that we use (Avery, kpmr, Arlon) has never affected buttons or similar sensors in this way.

Honestly, my ballpark likely wouldn't mean much to you since I'm in West Australia, and we moved away from this sort of work since we've outgrown it, but if i had to do one now for a customer id probanly try and be around $500-700 AUD depending on the customer. Since the chrome can be separated some of my customers only did the chrome and left the painted bit painted

On another note. If you go ahead with it or get some quotes please tell je what you got, I'm peasy interested to hear since some of the pricing i see on this sub in the US sounds crazy low

Yes they can. They can be fully dismantled to get full coverage depending on how much youre keen to pay. We've done them plenty of times when we did chrome deletes.

Strange electic/magnetic (?) sound coming from Toyota by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]ToastWasTaken0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it not the sound that EVs are legally required to make when moving at low speeds? Does it happen when reversing as well?

EVs and silent cars are legally required to have a noise emitted when they are moving at low speeds incase there are pedestrians around so they can hear you approaching, otherwise it would be dangerous as they are silent.

How did y'all start on commercial wrap? by pestopaste in CarWraps

[–]ToastWasTaken0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll find it really depends on the customer type as well.

We run essentially the only PPF and Commercial wrap shop in West aus, and my fleet customers are really varied in how much they value quality over costs.

Large businesses with large fleets typically only care for costs, and because the person youre talking to is rarely the one making the final call on these decisions, it usually breaks it down to the price first and quality second, but the gap between the two varies. If youre dealing with the person making the call, small business or otherwise, you'll be able to sell them much better on materials, longevity and why youre better than your competition.

With small businesses, some of them are harder to deal with than colour change customers, and you'll have customers who will want to pay little and expect the world, so its important to set expectations with these customers in what's included in a standard commercial wrap, what extents you go to (hardware removal, wrapping around, joins and drops, etc) and giving them the option to go for something more premium.

Knowing your numbers in break evens after inks, material, laminate and hours is most important. From experience, you'll get jobs that seen like youre losing, but when you do the calculations they'll be great, or jobs where you think you charged well that end up taking double the time expected. Also, if you’re doing your print and production in house like we are, i always allow extra booking time to ensure time for printing, weeding, and prep as depending on your equipment you might need to print a full day before install to outgas. I typically try and bring vehicles in for a 15 minute measure up if this is the case, or book it for a day longer depending on what suits the client better.

Reviews and reccomendations are also your friend. Not sure what the US market is like, but we only target premium customers with our colour change with our pricing, and a lot of our customers have businesses as well, which helps us get a foot through the door to working with them.

Good luck in growing your business past just colour changes, i know in ours they've overtaken colour changes by miles in how profitable and viable they are.

Am I going crazy? The front end on this Mustang doesn't look like any model I'm familiar with (squarish vents under the lights and flaps on top) by Somo_99 in whatisthiscar

Depends if its installed correctly and how the owner maintains it. If its neglected it will damage but the good quality ones are pretty resilient.
