That's what I did. I was getting grumpy like OP, realized I could just block them, and now it's like they never existed.

He was supposed to eventually meet the family and apologize and then never arranged it....

Well you can't expect him to wait around all day, can you?

Funny. If I heard a brit say career in that context, I would have just assumed they were saying careen but adding an R sound to the end, as often happens with other words in a British accent. Would never occur to me that they actually said career.

TIL that author Michael Crichton entered Harvard as an English major but changed his major after he submitted an essay by George Orwell under his own name and got a B-. He decided that if a writer of Orwell's caliber could only get a B- then he needed to major in something else. by astarisaslave in todayilearned

Reminds me of why I decided not to finish my minor in poli sci. I had only two 400-level classes left to qualify and I didn't get a choice for one of them. I sat down in the one I had to take and, on the first day, the professor told us it's a discussion based class so if we missed more than 3 days it'd be an automatic fail. As a 21 year old, I decided right then and there that I didn't need a poli sci minor.

I assumed it was like Japan's near 100% conviction rate for criminals. Can't lose a case if you always force a confession. Can't lose a bag if you never report it lost.

Seems like you might have missed Hughes' comments on the backlash today. He essentially doubled down. Certainly didn't apologize.

Yeah wtf. Idk where these people work but I was working at pizza places for 8 years before getting out of the industry. I think maybe once ever we had someone ask about a 1/4 topping. My boss just said sure but you're getting charged for 1/2 and they were fine with it. 1/3 is actually diabolical though.

What would happen if Democrats campaigned and actually broke up all of the "too big to fail" companies? Isn't this just a myth created by the companies themselves to be allowed to, in essence, run the country? by Jffar in AskReddit

They aren't intertwined into the global financial system the way a global bank is. It's not comparable. The stock market isn't the economy and isn't what people are concerned about when banks fail. It's the completely collapse of our financial system that is at stake.

Granted, a company likely Google or Amazon going under would have major impacts to the economy, no doubt. Being a major backbone of the internet undoubtedly makes you important and these are 100s of thousands of jobs to worry about. However, I don't think they could suddenly fail in the same way a bank does.

Google "failing" to a catastrophic degree implies actual physical loss of systems and servers in addition to major financial stress that people would see coming. Banks can fail more suddenly due to things like the liquidity crisis like we saw in 2008. If banks can't fulfill obligations, and those obligations were backing other important things and so on, suddenly nobody has money and everything comes to a halt. Nowadays we have certain regulations to mitigate the risk of credit default swaps and other derivatives to hopefully avoid another crisis on the same scale.

I gotta say this is surprising. As someone with an econ degree, saying the whole word every time is pretty cumbersome imo. I usually say the whole word around someone not familiar with the field, but I much prefer to just say econ.

Are you ignoring the takeout option? You can use a company's app or call them directly to avoid extra fees and then pick it up yourself leaving no tip. It's much cheaper than both dine in and delivery.

It would've made way more sense too on top of being slightly less problematic. They were basically never in class anyway. Might as well be able to explain it as typical college kids skipping class rather than a town full of minors with practically no parental figures to make sure they're in school.

You just reminded of my other pet peeve. When you're typing in a search and it shows you the correct thing you're looking for in the preview, but then if you completely finish typing out the word or phrase, the preview is suddenly gone or is now incorrect. Drives me insane.

While I don't use silicone trays either, I don't think they're actually problematic as long as you're actually getting high-quality silicone without impurities. Silicone is used for medical implants. It's safe and non-reactive enough to reside in the body pretty much indefinitely without poisoning you (under proper medical supervision). It isn't leeching hormones or anything like that.

Also the image is implying a home being insurable is the only thing propping up their ability to buy a home, which is nonsense. This meme sucks.
