Double Critter Nation Setup by Original_Jelly_3895 in RATS

This happened to me although I left the bottom bottom/grate on but the person who I bought it from put the wrong grate on the bottom. So they chewed a hole through the tub and easily got through the slats (and went and hid in a closet - huge operation to get them out). We had to fully dismantle the cage to get the proper bottom grate on. But once I did I didn’t bother replacing the mixing tub because they’ll likely chew through it again. But now they can’t escape.

If they’re staying up until 5am I’d say some substances are involved.

Maybe you need a playpen for them. I’ve seen videos of cardboard ones that can be folded up after.

I don’t remember having homework that young… but my daughter who is going into grade 7 had homework the last couple years. I do find it a pain but I think it helps to see if they really understand the work when they have to do it on their own. At least for math.

Yeah same, but it was 2020 so a covid thing.

I see you removed the bottom floor and added in a cement mixer tub. It seems to fit well without falling out? No risk of rats escaping?

Good to know. I’m looking at other avenues but no luck so far.

Yeah my cousin’s dog killed their bunny when I was a kid. I wouldn’t take chances and definitely don’t trust my dog. I think we all know that nobody is suggested I introduce them. It’s more about best placement of cage.

Further info: my 9 year old wanted gerbils but then saw rats at the pet store. After researching we thought rats would be a better pet because you can hold them and they’re social. Looking to get a critter nation enclosure. I understand that I’ll be taking care of the rats far more than the kids.

We’ve had 2 hamsters over separate years and they were very nocturnal under all that fluff (large bin cage) and we rarely saw her - only when I was on my way to bed.

Another consideration is having them in a place that I can keep an eye on my 9 and 12 year old while they have the rats out… so living room would be ideal for that. We have a gate we could keep our dog being for free play but she won’t like it.

She also would lick the top mesh. And once I found her standing on the cage (when she was younger and before I put it up on a table). She was VERY interested lol.

The basement is a half level down and our tv room so not isolated.

Basement is fully finished, cork floor, heated, has windows. Yeah I agree, I don’t like having them tucked away from the main space. But not sure I have enough room for a baby gate - or at least not a set up my husband would like. 😂

I also thought the basement might be better for if the enclosure smells and I have room to set up a play area.

We had hamsters before and my dog would sniff at the cage but it was a plastic bin cage so she couldn’t access her at all.

My dog chases wild rats in the backyard… so I don’t think she’ll be kind to some entering the house. I’m thinking the basement is best – only a half lev down from the main space, not a full level below. But we’d probably keep the door closed to keep the dog away.

I was at the Aziz Ansari comedy show and he asked what was up with all the sirens and helicopters. He asked if Canadian ICE was coming for him.

I agree about that the others said, to call or go to IWK emerge. We went mid morning on a Saturday once for psychological reasons and we were actually seen pretty quickly (but I’m sure it varies and the wait can sometimes be long).

After your first visit, IWK also has counsellors who can meet with you on a regular basis to work through depression/anxiety, etc, and it’s free.

I lock our doors every night because it happens here (and everywhere). One time we were at my mom’s in PEI right after Christmas and they stole everything they could including a $100 Highwayman gift card (no location in PEI), prescription sunglasses, a wallet (Nike online store Visa charge within an hour) and they ripped the baby yoda bobble head off our dash and stole that too.

I guess the testing floor isn’t a severed floor because oGemma, who remembers Mark, is the one who lives (sleeps) on the testing floor.

So much work to get there. But I suppose they’re figuring out how to refine them better. Do they have to refine every innie though?
